When I was really young, dad and I would pull the car up under the big tree and listen to the Saturday Race on the radio. Then he took me to Darlington when I was about 7 years old. I’ve been ‘ruined’ ever since. I love the sounds, technology and the smells - fumes and tires. I love to feel the horsepower come by me. I’m 65 years old.

I've never been to a NASCAR race. Grew up in MN & nobody else in the family likes racing at all. I got into NASCAR back in the early '60s, just because at 5-6 yrs old I was already fascinated with anything that had an engine - and the faster it could go, the more interested I was! Watched the short highlight clips on Wide World of Sports, and always wished they'd put an entire race on TV. I also subscribed to the various car-guy & racing magazines back when I was a kid. Well....I was watching with a few hotrodding buddies from my high-school days in '79, when the Daytona 500 was broadcast in its entirety for the 1st time! We were in the middle of that huge blizzard, snowed-in at one of my buddy's places. Since then, I've watched nearly every Cup race that's been broadcast!

The scanner conversation I remember between Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. during the warm up laps at Rockingham when Jr was going for the Busch championship will forever be etched in my memory. You had to be there in person to get that. The smell of exhaust and racing fuel can only be had in person at the track. Memories I will never forget. I remember Dale Jr. following Kurt Bush staying right behind him after Kurt Bush wrecked him in the John Deere car until Nascar told him to knock it off. I remember the roar of the crowd when Kenseth took care of business with Lagano at Martinsville. Memorable moments in person that will last a lifetime.

I can still remember as kid my dad taking me and my brother to the Atlanta flat tracks and down in the pit area, when I heard those cars start up they literally shook my guts and that did it for me.
Nothing compares to being there to appreciate what these fellas do. Highly skilled operators.

Very true. My 1st race weekend was MIS in 1994? The weekend Ernie Irvin crashed in practice and wad seriously hurt. But, I was walking back from under the stands as the green dropped after a caution, and 43 cars going by, the sound, the wind, took my breath away. I was hooked. Went to Pocono, Darlington, and MIS several more times.

I grew up going to Daytona twice a year back in the early to mid 80s and running wild around the infield. There is no comparison between being there and watching it on tv. I can’t think of any other experience that makes me feel more American than being at the fence between 1 and 2 at Daytona. He’s right… the speed, the sound, the smell…. There’s nothing like it to me. I’ve been all over the world and seen a lot. The only thing that comes close is top fuel drag cars at the GatorNationals. Every American should experience both of those things at some point in their lives. It’s incredible. You can feel it in your plums.

I like both. There are huge plusses to each method of taking in a race.
There are things that you see on TV a lot easier and better than at the track. When something happens on the back stretch it is harder to see at the track.
Being at the track encompasses all of our senses, and TV will never be able to top that. It is neat to hear the cars slipping just that tiny bit and hearing that particular squeal of the tires that the TV can't capture.
Both experiences are fulfilling when kept in their respective realms. Let the track be the track, and the TV itself.

Grew up going to dirt tracks in Pennsylvania because of Winged Sprints and was a casual nascar fan but got into nascar because of Senior!
Went to a race at Dover way back in the day and I was hooked from that point.
Not so crazy about the current nascar with their cookie cutter cars but at least there’s Larson who’s the greatest wheelman out there!

Never been to a NASCAR race. And I really can't tell you what got me hooked. I also don't have a lot of the driver's merchandise but you won't find a bigger fan. You'll find me EVERY week planted in front of the TV watching all 3 Series when they are racing. Also back in the day when we had SPEED TV there wasn't a NASCAR related show I wasn't tuned in to.

My fiance watched a couple cup races with me on tv on occasion, but once I got her to just a local tracks weekly night, she fell in love with it. We had a nice conversation about how she didnt quite understand my gripes with the broadcasts (especiallt FOX) until she got out and watched just some good old street stock and late model racing. Going to the event makes people fans, the TV broadcasts just helps get interest

I got hooked on racing as a junior in high school in 1962 when I got involved in modified racing in the northeast. Still love almost any kind of racing, don’t get to go as much as I used to and am getting a bit pissed at the suppression of innovation by the race teams, it’s what soured me on the modified series they look like tissue boxes on wheels. I cheer for Josh Berry cause he’s from my hometown of Hendersonville TN. And know his relatives there.

I’ve been a fan for most of my life, as a kid the cars were the draw to watch and follow, Davey was my favorite driver. Some years later I went to a Darlington race, as it’s my local track here is SC. It was an experience to say the least, at maybe 10 years old it was like going to the Coliseum. The spectacle was amazing! I’ve had the pleasure of going back to “The Lady in Black” a few more times through the years, the latest in ‘22. Experiences at the track make the sport, as a fan it’s like a pilgrimage for me anymore.

The midway effect and atmosphere of yesteryear, it was more like a county fair , family day topped off by a race... thats how it used to be... thats what i miss. There was something for everyone, you didnt have to be a hardcore racefan to have fun there.

Exactly the same thing for hockey. I didn't give two shits about hockey until I went and saw an NHL hockey game, and then I loved it. Seeing in person how fast they skate and how hard they hit makes it 1000X better.

Growing up in North Carolina from 5 to 25 yrs old, I wasn't a fan. Moved to Camas, WA at 30 yrs old, started watching Greg Biffle cuz he had a pub nearby. Truck series, then "Xfinity and finally Cup. He went to the same high school as my kids, I'd met his parents. So, I'm still a big fan today. Junior was always my 2nd favorite. My sister lives in Kannapolis. For me it's about who you know and who your family knows. Now it's Corey LaJoie who my brother in law shared a shop with.

There needs to be better access. Drivers are scarce to many of the fans and you need extra access just to get anywhere. I was able to do it because the Air Force did alot of marketing so we had a little better access. Saw the cars up close and the pits and we met Almirila since we were sponsoring the car back then.

Have a seat lottery. A scanned ticket can win money and the stands would be packed if you could win the equivalent of the cost of a race team tire bill for the weekend. I know I would go more if I had a chance to win 10k to 25k just for going.

Never be read, BUT, discount for ticket holder being at a track 1st time? Package deals for new fans or something? Live appearance loyalty cards to punch. Frequent racer miles. Discounts increase exponentially with loyalty. Pieces are there. Someone smarter than me can shoot it down or help figure feasibility 😊 If at all possible, we need to take care of our core long time fans while simultaneously attracting newer fans. The experienced teach the unexperienced how to fish if you will. Or...... MAKE EVERYTHING AFFORDABLE!!! What is the average age of the fan base? What is the average salary of said fan base? When you appeal to the mass average, very few skim by on the fringes, correct? I'm not saying ignore the ones you wouldn't think of but by making everything cheaper, you allow more people to enjoy easier
