Well, I am sure that you blame me plenty, so I get to blame you for once. I'm also sure that you are just as 'guilty' as I usually am. ;) Cheers, Jody
Every time a new watch arrives, I unbox it and say "let's peel off some stickers."
I'm always alone when this happens.
Mentally I'm with you.
Ha! Love it!
Hahahahaha! Classic. 😂
I've said to my wife "let's flip the camera and take a look" so I know how you feel
I feel you man. When friends come visiting I always say: helllllooooooo and welcome!😅
When you got rid of the last one, it must have said I'll be back😂
Instantly recognized that silhouette. Those giant buttons give it away instantly.
Folks, is Jody the only person in the room who actually knows how to run the features on Casios and Seikos? And while I have you, does anyone out there ever use more than two alarms? I am not asking either of these questions snarkily.
I use multiple alarms, especially when travelling, but simply for getting up at different times depending on when I need to wake up; and I'm always using the timer function on my Casios. I even find myself using the world time function a lot (set to Hong Kong) to know when a particular supplier is online or not. Some of us do find all these functions useful, but if your point is that the majority don't, you're probably not far wrong.
Man, I use my phone as my alarms. 😅
I’m not particularly fond of these watches just because of these Features.
I have a Seiko Prospex PADI chronograph that I took in to get a new battery. Turns out I just left it in the drawer for too long because I didn't even know it was SOLAR!
Thank you for a friendly informative answer! Even if most people don’t use those functions, a zillion people have Casios, so there are a lot of people who use those functions. So it’s not just a gimmick. And I can’t imagine it costs any extra to include them, after they developed the software in the first place.
Bought my Arnie on a whim because of the nostalgia and the price was right. It’s now my favourite grab-and-go watch. It just fits right.
I love the Tropical Lagoon colours, I've had my eye on the turtle one for a while now but haven't yet pulled the trigger.
Everyone needs an Arnie, this one and the SNJ025 are my fav (got the latter). I find those rubber straps and retainers too bulky on my wrist but wears great on nato and other rubber straps.
Beautiful Arnie Seiko Watch, quite big.
And Jody, Ruunn!!,
Get to the Choppah!!!
Special edition in Seiko terms means they've taken an existing model, made a special variant, then distributed to certain areas. They are in limited numbers, sold for a limited time and/or sold in limited countries. 😊
I did the same thing, love a big boy watch
If Ahhhnuld never wore this, I'd never in ten lifetimes even consider it. But since he did, I could mayhaps go for an all-black one.
I have 3 Arnie's - original reissue and the two Urban Safaris in green and khaki. Love them.
I've had the reissue Arnie ( SNJ025...I think) for years. I love this watch. I wear it on a two piece Zulu because it's more comfortable than the stick strap, though the strap is very comfortable too. I live in South Florida so our 100° weather is tough on rubber. Great review as always,Jody! 😎👍🏼
I love my Arnie…I wish the stock strap was a tad shorter so the tail doesn’t wrap around. I solved that by swapping it out. It’s a great watch…maybe I need another….
Hey Jody, by chance have you given the Casio Pro Trek series a gander? Mainly their ani-digi line up. I have the PRG-600YB and absolutely love it. Has many features and comes in a few configurations. Cheers!
I see they fixed the case back... it's no longer a scratch magnet. And they also changed the buttons and crown for brushed/milled ones. As for the color sceme, I like the Padi version better.
Always great to see an Arnie review.
If I had bought that one, though, I'd have sent it back and asked for a replacement. The white spec on the lower face by Seiko on the inside would drive me nuts for ever. Not sure how that made it past QC. Oh, wait, yes I do, its a Seiko.
The supplied strap is a bit too long for me but it looks awesome on a 22mm nato.
I love the Arnie. I have two - one is the "Safarnie".
But for god sakes, could Seiko have possibly included any more bubble wrap and assorted packaging materials?? Do we really need more plastic which can end up in tropical lagoons??
Wow they say some watches wear smaller but that watch wears WAY smaller. Im pleasantly surprised.
I'm a big fan of the AVP universe and have debated getting one of the original black versions for quite a while. Had a look at the bank holiday sale offers and the cheapest I could find one in the UK was £357. Decided to take the plunge and should have it this week so looking forward to it. Having previously owned a couple of Gshock Rangemen I reckon this will be small by comparison.
Now arrived and I'm amazed how small this wears for a big watch. Was a bit concerned about reliability after reading about reset issues in 2023 models but that seems to mostly affect watches sold in the US.
The arnie will always be in a collectors box, from it's distinctive and icon watch case associated with Arnie. I have the street version and love it!
PSA: If the mineral crystal bothers you, you can get "screen" protectors online (Amazon has a bunch) that fit great and don't impact solar charging at all. Normally I'd think such a solution would be a little bit rubbish, but because the Arnie's bezel is actually "proud" of the crystal, a screen protector sits well flush over the dial and as a result, it largely disappears. It ends up giving you all the shatter-resistance of mineral crystal, while eliminating any of the scratching concerns. Cheap, replaceable, effective, and discreet. Highly recommended.
Well I know where the Arnie went... I bought it! Since then, I've passed it on to one of the gentlemen in our social group, Oz Watch Boys. Being a larger gentleman with over 8" wrists, he loves it!
Exellent product placement. You should give your marketing director a bonus.
thanks for purchasing (as i requested ;) i have been considering a purchase and wondered if this caliber would hit the markers any more on the mark than other seiko solars i've purchased, and your review answered that question: NO. that was the main issue for me, having otherwise been a fan of this style. if the $50 casio marlin with a citizen $5 movement can hit markers on the spot, and my citizen solars can hit the mark, seiko could have if they'd given a d*mn. but they don't. thanks for verifying.
To help you spend some more money, the edifice "aqua terra" has 3 new colors available now.
Ooooooo! I'm on it!
I think they've changed the specs slightly on the new ones, no more screw down crown?
Complete watch noob here, do any quartz watches tick more than once per second? I hear quartz are more accurate and reliable but prefer the look of an automatic ticking. Maybe a tier list idea for a video if there's enough options?
Great business idea, Fred. Haha, I saw Ben’s wheels turning as you were explaining it.
Gorgeous watch, Jody. I adore my SNJ 025 Arnie reissue, but paid much more than you did, laddie! In a video a few years ago, Random Rob explained “special edition” vs “limited edition” in Seiko speak. A LE indicates that a limited number of watches are made, whereas SE depicts that the watch will only be produced once (regardless of number produced), which can continue for years. RR said he found SE watches often become more collectible than LEs. For what it’s worth….
Nice watch, but I don't trust Seiko solar watches after getting a defective one years ago.
Nasi Goreng and Bintang!!! hahahahaha you went to Bali like me...
Dr. Jody teaching us again about another beautiful Seiko. Thanks for sharing!
How good are the Seiko silicone straps! I recently tried on an Omega Seamaster and hated the rubber strap as it was rubbish in comparison.
There has been a huge issue with these solar movements recently that causes the watch to reset when in direct sunlight. It happened to mine and so i returned it. Ive read about numerous others having to do the same
Owned 2.
No issues.
The problem appears to affect 2023 watches sold in the USA. I just got mine and stuck it in the sun for a couple of hours and it seems fine.
Well that thing is beautiful. Nice choice and man that thing has so many features. Love it!
I won't lie I was a bit disappointed when you revealed it was just another Seiko. I thought you were going to review the Jiang Hun JH01 "War Drum" and I was getting all excited. I am completely deflated now.
Great color choice! I can understand why you spring for it. Enjoy!
You're right, it wears a lot better than the dimensions suggest. Very nice
Very nice. Congrats on the new acquisition! Any thoughts on a digital Erebus? Russell from the MWC was talking about making one, and I immediately thought an Erebus one would be awesome. Thanks for showing us the watch!
Great watch Jody. Have fun with it! How is the bezel action?
I remember when you got the black Arnie from marrickville metro. I got mine in 2021 and it has heaps of wrist time since then.
Great review thanks, I am tempted maybe black strap, there is so much watch for the money, have you noticed how a watch collection has an ever growing number of Seikos.
Hi Jody. Special edition means production for a single year for example, I think. 🤔😉
So....the Arnie isn't as confusing to work as the Seiko Astron?😅
The Arnie is my beater. It's taking a beating and is always ready to go, given it's solar. It reminds me of the old Seiko Sports 100 ani-dig, the first watch I bought myself at about 15 yo. It took ages to save up for it and I still have it. I really like this one too. The colors on the pushes is better than the original, letting you see more clearly when they aren't screwed in. Can I get just one more Arnie? I have a 6.5 inch wrist and it fits really well.
I used to have a Zeon like this as a teenager 😎
Humm, I like, no doubt it going to be added to the "Buy List", the only "moan and niggle" I have is that second hand, its far to thin, several times in the video it just disapears . Glad you enjoyed your holiday 🙂
I wish theyd make it a smidge smaller. It felt massive on me even with a 7 inch wrist.
Please get the seiko save the ocean light turtle for review. The dial is Beautiful on that one!!!!!
I have that Seiko Arnie and love it - great colour, looks great and I also bought at a great deal...
Jo! Que camiseta tan fantástica, quiero una.
Jody, the watch is BLUE🎉🎉🎉
I have the Khaki Arnie on the way but I think this tropical lagoon one looks awesome. Hmmm.
Come onn Jodyy!! Casio LIW-M700D-1AJF. Tryy itt!! I'm sure it'll make your next solar quartz roundup! 😬
£200!! So thought I'd price it up in the UK. £350 was the best I could do. Probably wait a while.....
I really love that color! I haven’t been in the market, but that looks great!
fantastic colors on this one! 11:46 and it actually wears kinda decent!
I have the SNJ029, fantastic watch and just so happens to be one of my wife’s favourites too, must be good with her approval ! 😂
I really like the watch, just turned off by the squished eleven and one indices. Other than that, I thinks it’s a beauty.
Giant yet kinda works? I feel like there are better casio designs that include the best of both worlds.MTP-VC01D-8E and EFA120D-1AV Edifice. Not divers not bulky. Way cheaper though
I love my Arnie (black on black). Mostly because I'm a huge Schwarzenegger fan. The LCD is extremely small and almost impossible to use a glance. Other than that it's sweet watch with a cool history.
Congrats. Great deal and a fun summer watch with a little history.
I’m glad we could return the favor now you can worry about storage lol
Gorgeous. Where to get it at that price?
Is that a blemish on the dial just to the left of the word “solar”? It looks like some of the black paint is chipped, or the white paint has bled.
I SEE IT!!🇨🇦
👍 still loving my SNJ028...
Glad you had a great holiday! I own an original Arni thanks to you and it's a great piece to the collection. Love my white Origin and looking forward to my purple Ascent!
Won't be long mate, we are prepping at this end, waiting for the watches to arrive in Sydney. Cheers!
I’ve gone for the purple too, withe the swirly wirly pattern….ahem, and the malachite green… It’s my birthday in September… that’s my excuse anyway! Enjoy yours when it arrives! Cheers. Tom
Did you scratch the case back trying remove the sticker? Looks kinda like it…😮
Couple of things I don't like about this: the white hour blobs squashed in under the LCD display, and the hour hand not matching with the minute hand.
Only 2 things keeping me from picking up an Arnie is -- 1. the price, and 2. the fact it isn't sapphire on such a tool-y watch.
There's a reason sapphire isn't used on the tooliest of tool watches, the G-Shock. Sapphire doesn't have the impact resistance of mineral crystal. Sapphire will completely shatter where mineral crystal will just badly scratch or crack.
I admit, I am a sapphire snob, but, to be honest, non of my hardlex seikos have any marks and I wear my watches.
@@gjuttla704 I don't 100% need sapphire but on a watch costing that much I kind of expect it (given many much cheaper watches include it).
Correction:
You stated in the intro that there is a countdown timer.
There isn’t.
It's nice...but it's big, and out of my price range. I'd go for an old-school Casio Marine Gear instead.
Just cant get myself to like those big round tuna-style cases. I guess I'm not "sporting" enough. Thanks Jody!
Damn! This makes me want an Arnie too 🤣🤩
The Mrs can’t be mad if you say you’re just listening to your followers.
All hail the JOMW algorithm!
The Momentum UDT Eclipse 42mm is a much more wearable and legible ana-digi piece with far better specs and still under $400 USD--defo one to check out. The only knock on it for me is the black ion plated case which isn't always the best choice with respect to wear and tear.
The Arnie IS very wearable.
@@e28forever30 Horses for courses
Will there be an Erebus with a see through caseback?
Meh to the tuna can. I’ll keep my Samurai Save the Oceans.
When are you going to review the SPB317? Do me a solid and tell us what you think of the slim turtle.
I have the Safarni. It got a lot a wrist time
I have one and love it
I don't like the blue bezel,if it was black I would snap it up.
Jody just to tell ya, I showed my wife you shirt cuz she loves cat shit. It made her shake her head 😂
What a beauty. Long live aluminum bezels!! 👍
I love my Arnie, one of the few times it’s a benefit to be a bigger guy, it doesn’t look big on me
Wow this one actually looks good
That white speck to the left of the word Solar would drive me insane, unacceptable QC
Just lovin that T Shirt Jody. Absolutely superb!
New pick up! I get plenty of targeted ads.....
I bought the snj025p wore it three times then it died on me, a bit of research shows this particular model had issues with the module which caused the watch to reboot once exposed to an amount of sun. Watch Depot Was a nightmare when it came to returns process. I would be curious to see how u to with this watch after some exposure to the sun.
Noted Jim. Any issues and I'll update here!
You're welcome!
I sold my Arnie within a month. Setting it is a pain.
Jodi my man, ever wanted to review an spb381j1?
Didn't the new version also have a diving log and stuff like that?
Nice colours but unless you really love the look & size, for most people if you want a digital watch a G-Shock or other Casio will be better (& easier to use) and a 3 hand dive watch will be a better watch almost all of the time. You have enough nice examples of both and aren't built like Arnold so unless you keep it as a "reference" watch as a reviewer, I suspect it will see little wrist time & get sold, again.
But what if I want both dive watch and digi? That's surely the point? And wears surprisingly well. We shall see!
love the colour scheme.
Well Jody, it’s YOUR fault that mine arrived in the mail today! And I’m taking it on vacation this weekend.
Ha! Blame me mate! Hope you enjoy it. Cheers!
Where can I buy this?
I got mine from Watch Depot, there are now a few Aussie retailers price matching each other at $399.
Prefer the Helm Khuraburi Ti for chonky watches.
