    And suddenly you realize a blue interior ages really well after 30 years. Black would have looked so dull and brown/tan is just dirty. I'm really surprised how good it looks and combined with the grey/blue car paint it's excellent.

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, sir. You are right. brown would be horrid. Black only nice if it was a 100% garaged car. I thought for sure I would end up not liking the blue interior and yet it is the complete opposite. I love it! Couldn't be happier with the color combo.

    I never thought you could repair cracked leather . Impressive work

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jens Roßbroich Yes it's something that takes skill and that means practice so I wasn't about to do it myself. The seat restoration cost me less than $500 including leather repair and color, seam resewn, seats removal, etc.

      It needs a few things. Later this tear I will try and find some plastic pieces that are needed inside. Those are tough as nails to track down.

    This makes me wanna get one of these vintage benzos ive been thinking about it for a while. I didnt know you could restore the leather like this either. I always thought they put new leather on it somehow.

    • @steveistherealdeal7216
      @steveistherealdeal7216 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They basically degrease and sand the surface, provided the leather is not split then they either use elastomeric paint, dye, or aerosol paint as used in this case. If you can find an older benz with MB tex you are golden. The real nightmare with vintage mercedes is the electrical system, followed by the vacuum controls. Don't forget the Mercedes achilles heel the timing chain and guides.
      Add that on top of what happens to every other thirty year old car dried out rubber mounts, hardened and leaking seals, ball joints that are fine but dust boots that are split or gone which will accelerate their eventual failure. All the rubber hoses, from power steering, to cooling and eventually AC hoses need to be addressed. And if the car sat... valves can rust open, cylinders can rust causing broken rings, even if you don't have rust issues old deteriorated gasoline that has broken down can cause valves to stick and get bent due to engine interference. Seals can dry out or tear leaving the engine to leak like the exxon valdez. Old cars can be fun, but they are a pain in the ass.

    I seem to recall that the leather for the seats is selected from the underside of the neck of the cows. Because it is out of the weather, it’s softer. I also have a 1989 SEC. They are a gorgeous car.

    Love the Bruno Sacco design SECs. He certainly has done a great job. Wow ummm it was an electric blue till corrected wasn’t it.... glad you had that fixed. The mismatch Would have looked very obvious had you left it.... it would had really detracted from the car.

    Very nice and clean. But just some friendly comments... Have you tried putting some periodic 126 alloys on like the AMG aero 1s or Pentas. They look so much better, fresh from the showroom look back in 87 (again friendly comments) 😃 also is that a W140 steering wheel

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, never tried any other wheels. The steering wheel is from an early 124, which is plug and play. Smaller wheel so better handling.

    • @ItsTimePictures
      @ItsTimePictures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I m not sure exactly at this point. Seems like a million years ago. :) Maybe 125 for the seat repair and around 350 for the leather refurbish and color match.

      Hi, Imad. Are you in the USA or outside? I actually sold that car back in 2017 when I moved to China. I moved back the end of 2018 and bought a black 500 SEC. An even nicer one. :-)
