    Dude is a great storyteller! In college (1983) I had $2K to buy a car, I came across a 64 1/2 Mustang, guy was asking $3500. I offered $1750. Guy immediately answers "$1850". Done! I drove that car for 16 years

    gotta love it when an owner doesn't care enough about a car to take proper care of it then all of a sudden values it when someone else wants it

    • @manfredschmalbach9023
      @manfredschmalbach9023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a point in "all of a sudden values it when someone else wants it" where it literally pays should You happen to be the only one actually wanting it - even more so with a dealership still having a bill open they remind the owner recurrently of ..... I got 50.000 € boats for the money they needed to pay the recent (plus reminders) and the upcoming due Marina bill from the heirs more than once.

      it may not be that simple of a story, there is a 1991 Toyota Celica 4x4 turbo JDM spec original WRC platform but in meh paint and finish in Berlin right now being driven rarely by an Italian girl who won't sell it and can't really. That's my car, or it's 'ours' on unspecified terms. She drives it every so often to keep it running OK but atm there are no plans for it on short term other than to keep it running. Eventually I want to restore it gently, but it has some weird 'issues' which is why it just sits. It has a strange rim size that tyres aren't really made for, and a bolt pattern and wheel spec that can't be just bought, without either having custom machining done or a bunch of iffy spacers. Wheels is the only real way but custom made and it costs a lot to do on a car that is never used. So it's in limbo atm. There are some other issues that require more custom crap to fix, the wipers for one - as dumb as it sounds.

    But I did buy a (C140) 98 CL600 and drove it home to Tennessee from California last week. I told my wife it was an unicorn, black on black with the V12, she said I was a unicorn. I’m going to polish it up and sell it in a few months. That V12 is impressive and smooth.

      The young guy flipped it after only owning for 6 weeks. I know the guy who bought it and had it fully restored & repainted. It now has Recaro Classics front seats, AMG Steering wheel and now wears WB AMG Aero 3's wheels and the coupe is stunning in presentation. It now resides in San Diego

    Sounds fishy? Cut rear deck and crawled through? The gas tank is behind the seat? There's less than 1' of rear deck accessible. Not impossible, but very strange bit of the story.

    My buddies dad had one... bought it new. Low km , mint condition all original always climate controlled storage never winter driven .Gave it to his son for his 16th birthday. He didn't know what he had. He sold it for like 14k cad to buy a fishing boat... I wish I had the money at the time to buy it

    I am from europe and when I was in school at the 90s, this was the previous model S class shape, and the hit was W140, the previous gen was also such a bomb! These cars in good spec and condition are stunning indeed, the coupe is even cooler! "Eurospecs are cooler", I never liked the US bumpers, or headlights on the old Benzes:)

    ANY car with a low volume body kit is a Gamble, I've owned a few early AMG kitted cars and they usually are a house of horrors unless you have donor cars and mad welding and spot weld unpicking skills or a budget that allows Classic Center patronage.
    The thing with MB is? Its always worth it because they have soul.

    At 48 years old, and driving cars on the road since I was 12, I will never understand someone being enthusiastic about an automatic performance car. All my vintage Datsuns, Audis, Porsches, Toyotas, Corvettes, Hondas, RX7s, etc etc have all been manual trans!

    • @windowsdown3684
      @windowsdown3684 ปีที่แล้ว

      while this is performance, it is also a GT Cruiser, an autobahn stormer, this is not performance car in the same realm as a small corvette, or a small, low slung RX7.. it is a large car build on the s class chassis. freight train power for burnouts and long comfortable journeys all while looking badass. different customer than your porsche 911
