One thing I do like about Great Train Heist that could come up is "countering" Wandering Emperor. You attack, your UW opponent spends most or all of their mana flashing in Wandering Emperor, you let them -2 to target your biggest creature, then cast the first mode of Great Train Heist to untap everything and get an extra combat step.
Remember when Sting wasn’t wrestling for a while and they kept teasing his return by showing him ominously standing up in the rafters of the stadium? Now that was a marketing campaign
I feel the same about Hollow Marauder, this card is absolutely nuts for EDH but also feels very playable in standard. Heck, I wonder if it could be playable in other eternal formats decks that fill their graveyard real fast
@Dev So glad someone else is talking about Demonic Ruckus. Plays great into a turn 2 Slickshot Show-Off if you want to get in on turn 2, and my favorite use is plotting it on 1, then playing Pia on turn 2, and casting it on her. Gets Pia out of Cut Down range and makes a Thopter.
I wasn’t expecting your number one pick at all, not sure what I was expecting but it definitely wasn’t that. Holding out for another arclight phoenix moment, you’re due for another any day now.
I can see some reanimator Calamity/Vein Ripper decks with push/pull where you put 1 of each in your graveyard, bring them back, copy Ripper twice and then you don't even have to care if you're going to deal combat damage to the opponent.
2:35 I just wanted to say that you absolutely can counter the ping from the land! Defabricate is one hell of a drug - I play that card in every blue deck I make, and get regular "Nice!" from opponents 😋
Counter triggered ability cards like Defabricate are a 1-off counter, but yes technically a counter. Elesh Norn however would completely shut those lands off.
I had similar thoughts about the ping lands (?) going into Worldsoul's Rage ramp making it so the deck wouldn't have to pump as much mana into Worldsoul's for the kill. The ramp package would have to change some. Instead of relying primarily on Aftermath Analyst with SNC fetches and self mill, use more traditional cards like the new Explosive Vegetation or even Worldsoul's itself that puts deserts into play. I was thinking of this in jund instead of temur. So you plot Pitiless Carnage and do some ramping. Then once you have 6+ mana, float the mana, sack your lands to Pitiless Carnage and draw a bunch of cards, then Aftermath Analyst to put those lands back into play and get all the pings again.
I was thinking of a Jund list, as well; but I've been testing Pitiless Carnage alongside Splendid Reclamation. Curves from 3 into 4; and is a back up for when they kill AA. Drop land 4, cast Carnage, cast Reclamation. Also seems a lot of people forgot it was in VOW, so it's kinda surprising.
@@boombox_up_to_11 Yeah, I'd considered that line as well. It wouldn't work well in practice on turn 4 I think. You're going to have to play an untapped land on turn 3 and 4 to plot Pitiless Carnage then Splendid Reclamation the following turn (after casting Carnage and sacking the lands). The only way that ramps you is if you spent turns 1 and/or 2 putting lands into the graveyard. It's gonna be hard to do that with these ping lands that all come in tapped. At that point even if you were able to do everything on curve, you'd likely just be paying 4 to draw 4 and _maybe_ ping your opponent for 1-2 damage, not ramping. I don't think it's really feasible to have basics _AND_ SNC fetches _AND_ deserts in the mana base. The deserts would have to replace the fetches and that's why I said the ramp package would also have to change. That is if your plan was to use the deserts as additional burn as Dev was suggesting. If you want to stick with the fetches plan, you can continue running Splendid Reclamation. But since you don't get much equity from Splendid Reclamation without ways of putting lands in the graveyard, Aftermath Analyst works a bit better with Pitiless Carnage, because the mill might put 1 or 2 lands into the graveyard so at least you're ramping a little.
@@KoshoShinogi Definitely agreed. I was trying to point out that I play both AA AND Splendid Rec, together. I've had a ton of games where AA gets immediately cut down. Splendid Rec prevents that from killing the game plan.
Theres so many incredible auras in standard but the main issue with the mono red ones is you get 2 for 1d so often when you opponent just in response kills your creature on turn 2/3 it sucks
Boombox could maybe go in worldstone rage if you lean into the shigeki infinite bounce package. I dunno if that would be better than fireballing their face, but could be fun lol
Turn 1: Plot Demonic Ruckus Turn 2: Cast Monastery Swiftspear, then Monstrous Rage and Demonic Ruckus You now have a 7 power haste attacker with menace and trample
A friend of mine took me to a wrestling event a while back. Lowlight: They confiscated the Fight Milk sign I spent an hour and a half making. Highlight: Top 10 Abductions. You gotta love any sport where abductions are frequent enough for a top 10.
Nah my man, I don’t see Boom Box... for 8 mana most of the time: destroy creature+land.. Even when you have a dream boardstate - opponent has big artifact, creatureland and creature - for 2+6 mana the ceiling needs to be higher or the minimum payoff greater.. the Landestruction is just so late, maybe as tech against a grindy smithy deck, but they just play loran and we are sad :) or temporary lockdown.. For *only* 6 mana it would be a nice effect! But I love the love for it, pls copy and reanimate all the boxes Dev
Whenever I see a crew ability and now the mount ability, I get the stupid image of giant dinosaurs riding or crewing something that’s the size of their foot
I'm worried that the explosive power of all the new cards plus all the other sets means we're about to be playing in a turn 4 win format for the next 5-6 months, even more than we already are. This set is PUSHED. I'm excited, but worried.
Anyone know what the Marrow teaser of the mechanic players have been asking for was? I hadn't personally noticed anything that struck me as something people have specifically been wanting.
The new mechanics are Spree, Mount, Plot, Outlaws, and Crime. I'd guess out of all of that, Outlaws is what he was talking about. Commander players always ask for more support for smaller subsets of creatures, so having Mercenary and Warlock support could be what he was talking about, but if it is, it's not really that incredible.
@@andrewgolubiewski3463 the only other one that might have been asked for is Crime, but making a word for targeting stuff is probably not something they actually asked for
What…is… a specter mean?! I know it’s a ghost spirit thing but why isn’t it a spirit in this set?! Also isn’t the coyote actually a coyote? Why isn’t it a dog so it has synergy? Like I don’t get why magic has been doing this whole new creature type thing when they could just be adding to already established types. I mean shrug I guess but dang…
Dude. Just found you and I could listen to you describe paint drying. Good stuff.
Welcome to the club.
Glad you found him. He's been my favorite for like 7 years now
He is the Goat!!!
Hell yeah dude
Yippie ki yay
I vote for calling those deserts Crime Lands personally,
It's the Wild West. Scrublands.
Ping lands?
I also like crime lands 😂
@@xileets Considering that you're causing pain to someone else, they can't be pain lands. Sadism Lands?
Yeh.. I like that too.. "Pinglands" could also work.

I'd just like Dev to know that I got an ad break directly in the pause of his delayed punchline joke. Beautiful stuff.
Great Train Heist can completely turn your game around in Red Aggro or Big Red, during any phase of the game. It's so damn fun.
Excited for the Power Dragon video!
Played against PowrDragn the other day. He clobbered me with a Golgari deck that manipulates +1+1 counters.
Great guy!
The thing I love most about Outlaws is Ziggy being on video again after some time...

Jagged Barrens goes into Ob Nixil, Captive Kingpin decks, that's for sure

Calamity + Terror of the Peaks. Calamity swings, make two token copies of Terror, win the game?
Does calamity work with roaming throne?
Does casting a plotted card count towards things that trigger from casting instants and sorceries? Like prowess or Urabrask?
