So happy to finally hear a German orchestra perform Rautavaara! Special kudos to the trumpet in the finale - flawless, golden beauty.

Yes, and what an orchestra! Rautavaara is not only for Scandinavian orchestras.

Music from Finland. First the "Bird Consert". Nordic springtime! And then a lovely version of Valse Triste. Thank you so much for wonderful playing!

Ah, sorry, you have already listened to Sibelius :) What about Södermann's "Svenskt festspel"?

We need more Rautavaara in concert. There are so many "modern" composers, that need a renaissance as Mahler and Shostakovich had one (e.g. Schnittke, Suk, Pavel Haas, Franz Schmidt, Zemlinsky).

Congratulations on performing Cantus Arcticus. I had never heard of it until I saw it played in a concert in Manchester in 2018, and I was metaphorically blown away by it. Six weeks later I was standing on the promenade deck of a cruise ship moored at about the latitude of the Arctic Circle and realised I could hear many of the same bird sounds. Every time I have heard the Rautavaara piece since then I am mentally transported back to the experience of that holiday.

Einojuhani Rautavaaras Cantus Arcticus was composed as late as 1972. It is also named Consert for Birds and Orchestra ( for orchestra and sound tape). This is Rautavaaras most famous composition and has become a quite often played consert, at least here in the nordic coutries, I myself from Sweden. I have to congratulate dieses Jugendsinfonieorchester for great playing in this!

@@NDRKlassik The interpretation of Valse Triste was wonderful!

The birds in this are mainly Curlew (Numenius arquata), Crane (Grus grus) and Whooper Swan ( Cygnus cygnus). In the second movement their callings are slowed up.

PS I am myself a music lover AND a bird watcher, specially in springtime. That may explain why I love this music.

La composizione di Rautavaara l'ho trovata veramente molto bella sembra un Orchestra che suona in un bosco pieno di uccellini
