Lassen would've definitely been one of California's most famous national parks with the volcanos, geothermal activity, and general Californian Alpine Nature all in one if it was more south, but hey, hidden gems are called gems for a reason.
I can’t express enough how awesome Cinder Cone is. It was brutal as hell to get up, but it’s one of my favorite hikes of any National Park I’ve been to and I rarely hear people talk about it!
I live in Sacramento and have always wondered what Lassen would be like. After watching this video makes me want to go now. I just did S. Lake Tahoe Emerald Bay a couple weeks ago. So far it’s been a beautiful fall in Cali. Take care. Keep the outdoors motivating.
I was there in 1966, an Old Man told us about seeing it erupt from San Francisco; after his stint in the Great War he hiked to the top with a group. He said there were a lot of geysers and fumerals active in the crater. He also told us about enjoying the San Francisco Earthquake and the clean up & rebuilding. When I was there in 1966 there were still a lot of broken trees from the 1915 eruption.
6:28 I have come from India and have reached at Lassen park last evening & ready to explore this park. Your video will definitely help me explore since north side is closed and will be heading to south in an hour.
We just had a pretty good snow up here today with a little more coming this week. I’m not sure the roads into the park will be open by Mother’s Day but I wish you the best. You’ll definitely enjoy it if they’re open.
I never knew that there was that much to do at Lassen. It will definitely be on the list the next time that I am in North California. Thank you so much for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.
Just got back from a day trip to hike the peak! Went when I was 7/8 yrs old. After doing the peak for the first time I cant wait to revisit these other great places and see new ones
I visited lassen about 20 years ago with my brother who lives in cal’ - I would love to see pics of the campgrounds - we stayed for a few days - hiked serious back country - awesome
I live in chester ca, just down the hill from lassen and right on lake almanor. My family and i go up to lassen at least 3 times a year. We love taking our dinner up to lake Helen and backcountry snowboarding in the winter. Its nice to see someone taking an interest in the area and making lassen Park more popular!
Thank you so much for this fabulous video! Very helpful for a trip I'm planning with my sons next year. I now know the places we'll plan to visit within Lassen Volcanic National Park. And I also now realize I need to increase my workouts and endurance level to be able to keep up with my early-20s sons. :)
Thank you for another fun and interesting video. Your knowledge of the places that you visit and your narration is superb. Thank you very much again. We'll try to make it there soon.
Cold Boiling Lake is an interesting point, too. It's essentially a thermal feature near the end of its life. The water in the lake is cold, and gasses bubble up from the shallow active spot at the lake's edge. It's accessed from the King's Creek Picnic Area and the trail leads into the back end of the Bumpass Hell boardwalk.
Butte lake, cinder cone, fantastic lava beds, painted dunes, snag lake, and the red cinder cone are all on the butte lake entrance of the park.. also the campground is decent, has running water and flushing toilets. So it’s easy to stay a few nights camping and hiking.. even swimming in the lake. Plus it’s not quite as busy there because of the lack of services.. it deters the people on day trips.
I visited Lassen and did some hiking years ago. Got one odd the worst sunburns of my life. Also got some great photos of mountain lakes along the way. I really need to get back out that way again and give it further exploration.
After watching this video it made me want to go to Lassen one last time before it was snowed out. I even made a video on it. Every bodies hike is different. Thanks for the inspiration.
Bumbass hell is awesome i didn't go down all the way but it i was a good hike the subway cave is cool it's a little chilly in there manzanita lake is beautiful last time i was there i almost caught a trout
Is there any restrictions to visit now? I missed entering Yosemite last month, since I didn’t know we need reservation to go in Yosemite park. However I still got an amazing time at Oakhurst town though! Thanks for this amazing video !
About 20 years ago drove the trip very late at night. Saw a lot of critters included two red artic foxes that had been recently released and what looked like an otter or very big beaver. The foxes where about 4 miles apart just walking along the road. lived near the area for a couple years.
Thank you so much. I never even heard of this one. Less visited is awesome, as we don’t enjoy nature as much when there are thousands of people around. We are looking forward to be able to travel to Cali again.
I asked you during the Q&A what Lassen National Park was like and I went that week. The peak did not disappoint!! So tiring, but the views of the lakes and volcano were incredible.
I gotta say, the hike to Bumpass hell was exhausting in the July heat, but luckily there is usually small areas of snow left over from the heavy winter snows. Super refreshing in the middle of Summer 👍
Un parco nazionale forse meno famoso tra i più noti del nord America ma di grande fascino e interesse naturalistico. Mi piacerebbe molto visitsrlo amando la natura e la fotografia
I was just there this weekend. The fire from 2021 has devastated the forest. It’s still worth the trip, but the devastation to the woodlands makes it more dangerous for hikers as burned trees are a hazard.
@@Andy-vt7sl so much was burned that it’s hard to imagine anything surrounding the area not having damage, but it’s still 100% worth going. Be very careful for the burned trees when hiking.
A avid lover of the outdoors and hiking etc from Utah but question for you, have you done a video of your favorite national park in California? All the best!
Trails to a) Terrace, Shadow, Cliff lakes; b) Mill Creek Falls; c) Ridge Lakes, d) Mount Harkness. Unfortunately, the July/August 2021 Dixie Fire has cut off all of Warner Valley and Juniper Lake areas, but the park will recover.
de très bon souvenir lors de ma journée faite le 25 octobre 2019. C'était le but du road trip de 2019. Visiter le nord de la Californie car moins touristique. Hâte d'y revenir dès qu'on le pourra.
Cinder Cone is best accessed via Butte Lake Campground but parking is very limited for day trekking. There isn’t much else in that isolated corner of the park unless you are hiking to or camping at Butte Lake. As always, stay on the trails and pack out what you take in.
Was planning to do that this year but then had to put it off since my wife just had twins. I hope to do one next year though. Here is a good resource for fall color in CA www.californiafallcolor.com/
Your videos are always so sharp and colorful! I apologize if you've covered this previously, but what settings are you using on your A7RIII? Also, are you using s-log or doing any grading? Are you shooting to an external recorder?
I have same question as another person who commented. What is the best time to visit Lassen? My husband and I tried three different times, all in April on our way home from the Tulip Festival in Washington state. Two times the north entrance was closed ten miles in and once from the south entrance, which was closed five miles in. I still want to go, but don’t want to be disappointed again.
July and August are definitely the best times to visit. I go all year round but I live near there and have snowshoes. If you’re not camping and just making a day trip it’s best to get there early, maybe as early as 8am to beat the crowds and get parking close to the most popular spots.
Devil's kitchen looks really cool, but it is 1hr 20m from the south end of the park starting at the visitors center, I think the video said about 40min.
I prefer Brokeoff Peak to Lassen as it is less popular and offers the best view of Lassen itself. And in my opinion, Cinder Cone is the best hike in the park. 👍
It closes with the snow in the winter but I don't think it is closed now. Link in the other comment from "Red Hot Chili Peppers Man" is a good one to reference.
Lassen would've definitely been one of California's most famous national parks with the volcanos, geothermal activity, and general Californian Alpine Nature all in one if it was more south, but hey, hidden gems are called gems for a reason.
agree. the other parks are overrun with hordes of humans. ugh

Good to know that it is a great hike!

The northeast side of Tahoe Nevada side is amazing too!
Camping and boating in Summit lake is an amazing experience too.

He said there were a lot of geysers and fumerals active in the crater. He also told us about enjoying the San Francisco Earthquake and the clean up & rebuilding.

The hike from Butte Lake to Widow Lake is spectacular.
Sweet, thanks for the tip!
Summit Lake to Echo Lake and then Twin Lakes is my favorite day hike. The Twin Lakes have some nice sandy shores to relax at before heading back.
6:28 I have come from India and have reached at Lassen park last evening & ready to explore this park. Your video will definitely help me explore since north side is closed and will be heading to south in an hour.
These are perfect! I’m taking my mom to California for Mother’s day, she will love it!

Thanks so much. So many of these amateur videos are terrible. You have a great talent!
Visited Lassen in July 2010. A really great experience, but still a lot of snow, so Bumpass Hell was a no go.
Thank you very much for this video man. I love all your videos thanks for all your help! 🙏🏻
Going to do a service trip there this summer (if no fires), so loved seeing your beautiful photography! Thanks for all the recommendations!
Going to visit for the first time in June. So excited!

Ah I miss this place :) need to go back
It is such a special park
The first part of this video will be very helpful since I think I will be near this park in about a week, but not a ton of time. Looks amazing !
Have fun! Glad it was helpful! Do note that the road closes when it snows
Everywhere you've been is on my list! I'll have to document it all so eventually I can do what you do
Thanks my friend for this video. It is so cool.
Thank you for such awesome videos!
Awesome video. Thanks!

Get back up here and I'll meet you there for the two other mountain tops. They are still on my hike list.
Sounds awesome!
Thank you for sharing looks great to visit
Thanks for the ideas, hope to try them soon!!!
You are so welcome!
We hike to paradise meadows and then to shadow lake and it was amazing hike.
Great video! We will be using this as a guide when we visit Lassen. Thanks!
Great video and as always, beautiful spots. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks,👍 will visit
I asked you during the Q&A what Lassen National Park was like and I went that week. The peak did not disappoint!! So tiring, but the views of the lakes and volcano were incredible.
So glad to hear you did it! It is a tough hike but an amazing payoff at the end at least!

Thank you for this! I've been wanting to go to this park for a few years now. Just haven't been able to plan a trip there yet.
No problem, I hope you make it up there, it is a beautiful park. The major road does close in the winter though
Sweet video really enjoyed it
Informative and great video
Great vidos, as always! Thanks!
Another wonderful video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
There is a nice lava tube on the way to the cinder cone. It is just out of the park boundary but has easy access.
Great video!
Yeah, Cinder Cone, incredible hike. By the time back in the parking lot, my brand new hiking boots look like 10 years old
Hell I need to find you and follow you around. I plan on visiting this place later this year.
Thanks for sharing this video great video content.

Yeah I was there at the fires helping the firefighters. Big respect to them it’s very hard work what they do
We’re going in a few weeks - any places you recommend we see that weren’t burned? Camping at Battle Creek we think (outside the park)

I think he did, check the videos.
