  • As an adult probation officer, Sara Johns often meets people during the worst period of their lives.
Johns and her partner Aaron Geiser spend a lot of time as a sounding board for their parolees, answering questions, telling them what they are, and are not allowed to do, or receiving updates about their struggles and achievements. Most of the pair's time is spent outside the office, driving from house to house, checking in with their parolees. As adult probation officers, their job walks the fine line between counselor and enforcer.

Why does that county want their probation officers to look like cops?
That doesn’t seem helpful at all.

Same protection and they're easily ID'd. Probation work can be dangerous as well.

We need Parole Officers to keep the community safe. They’re the backbone of order and safety. Just imagine this world without police or parole officers?!

She said it correctly and it’s all about your attitude and how you’re approaching them. Nothing wrong with doing your job but when you’re abusing your power or job position to make them feel worse than they already are 9 times out of 10 you’re gonna get a mouthy attitude back. If you’re violent towards them some people are gonna respond back with violence. Treat people with dignity and respect and most likely they’ll do the same. For aggressive and violent offenders they shouldn’t be on the streets for them to have the opportunity to attack you or others. Not everyone is able to be rehabilitated and they get a taste of freedom and you come talking about a warrant for your arrest it can turn ugly really fast 😢💯
