Nope this was not Pernell Whitaker toughest fight, his toughest fight was Hurtado, yes it was later in his career but that was still his toughest fight, because Hurtado was 10 years younger, faster, with his legs and hands and he can pop.Pernell had to break Hurtado down with vicious body shots. His second toughest fight was the first Buddy Mcgirt fight, in the rematch he dominated Mcgirt. The Paez fight was similar to the Poli Diaz fight, the fight wasn’t easy but Pernell Whitaker was still in Rythm, if Pernell is in Rythm you pretty much lost the fight. Check the punch 🥊 stats, Pernell was way busier , good 😌 effort from Paez and Poli Diaz but unfortunately that’s not enough, Hurtado and Buddy Mcgirt in the first fight did better. Hurtado because of his Athleticism and facing a older Pernell and Buddy because of his I.Q. But Pernell dominated Buddy in the Rematch and Ko’d Hurtado by breaking him down with vicious Body shots.
Though Pernell was compared more to Pep because of his defensive style, ironically, Whitaker's fighting style has more similarities than the offensive monster Sugar Ray Robinson than the defensive master Willie Pep.
