Gabe should go down as the GOAT in poker commentary. His humor combined with his understanding of the game really is one of a kind.

I love gabe, from a comical stand point. When it comes to explaining hands there are much better choices. For this time period in poker though it was just about perfect. The game has advanced way past his understanding now though and he couldn’t hang in today’s game. Much respect to gabe and his work though!!

That whole sequence has to be the most legendary poker commentary of all time. It being interrupted with the table talk about Eli looking asleep and Ivey flashing the big smile about it is the cherry on top.

I've watched this video several times, and I'm still amazed there are hardly any comments on lex's call with ducks of an almost pot-sized bluff by doyle. that's a work of genius!

The A6 vs 98 hand will go down as the best hand ever televised. Very tough to beat. Poker at its best

@@ClassicMist360 Agree. There were a couple at a WSOP event back in the 00's. There was this poker player whose nickname was "Sick Call". And he made some crazy calls. Pretty sure he made a Jack High call and won. It was insane.

At 21:48 he was right about to call, but then he thought “but it’s Durrr” 😂
It would have been a great call. But when the bet started, the flop had 3 cards that could have been a top pair against the 6s you are getting in the river. Ending in a big bet. So, the most rational thing to do was to fold.
Watching it from the outside, knowing what the other guy has, yeah feels like “how da f...he doesn’t call!!”, but playing with that amount of money, try to win with a pair of 6 is a low chance with a flop with way higher cards.
I wish Ivey called Brad booth's hand slighty more though.

You can tell at 22:33 Negreanu pointing at Elezra sleeping was the moment Ivey broke his concentration contemplating a call. If he wasnt interrupted he probably would’ve called.
Saying 'probably' is a bit of a stretch and pure speculation. There's no information that points to 'probably' calling

In my humble opinion, if Ivey called that would have been the greatest hand of all time.
Nah. Dwan over shoving the pot and ivey calling would have been the best hand of all time. Would’ve been interesting if elezra’s dose off caused Ivey to just say fuck it and call. It looked like Ivey was looking for any sign to call there but it didn’t help he blocked all the draws with diamonds ♦️ and the inside straight draw. It really looked like dwan could’ve had J9 suited of possible diamonds and he was value betting the whole way. Sucks Ivey didn’t make his hand.

Even without Ivey calling, that last hand is still the single greatest hand ever played in televised poker history, imo.
The dynamics at the table, Gabe’s commentary, the way you could see the gears turning in Dwan and Ivey’s heads, and the sheer amount of $ at stake.
I don’t know if that hand will ever be topped.

Just quietly, that's a pretty amazing call by Lex! Doyle generally plays pretty tight. He's not all loosey goosey, on his phone or eating a sandwich very often....
21:43 - Ivey knows he's probably being bluffed but that he can't really make a call here
21:48 - Ivey contemplates that Tom may have indeed had a big hand preflop like 10s or Qs and flopped a set or another hand that crushes him
In the end, I think Ivey sensed that Dwan was bluffing but would rather look better making a good fold than looking bad if he was wrong calling with only a pair of 6s.
Edit: And crazy credit to Tom for betting into Ivey out of position and actually reading Ivey's hand for what it was--most likely a monster draw that bricked on the turn and river.
Folding a pair of 6s on that board is not considered a “good fold”

@@groundup001 of course is a good fold. Only cause you know what the other guy has, you say the opposite. That hand was much harder to call it than to fold it. Even if you think the guy could be bluffing, the flop had 3 cards that could be a top pair against those pair of 6s. So it is a lot of risk there, was a big bet.
Conversely, it would have been a great call if he would have called. But, a fold there is the most reasonable thing to do with that board.

Daniel Negranu is probably the nicest Poker Player ever. He is always polite and friendly, no matter if he wins or loses. I bet he is a great buddy to hang around with.

I just want to add another layer of thought to that last hand. That bluffcatcher call is superhard because Durrr might be bluffing with the best hand there also. And that is what Ivey doesn't want to see the most. He felt like he has read on Durr and it was right, but there are many 10J, JQ hands that Tom can bluff there on river while still played the same on other streets.
Ya Ivey thinks he probably has the J blocker and is bluffing with the best hand like you said. QJ, J10, 109 etc. Or even A10. I think Ivey snaps him off with AQ. Because he knows Dwan will blast off with any QJ or J10 or maybe 109 in that spot.

That second hand was payback for Daniel on Gus after that insane cooler in season 2. For those wondering it was a $600,000+ pot where Daniel flopped a set of 6’s over Gus’s set of 5’s and Gus turned quads which also gave Daniel a full boat. It’s on the best hands of High Stakes Poker season 2 on this channel.

Lex calling turn of 20k bet and river for 60k against Doyle with bottom pair of 2's is lengendary. Maybe the greatest or donkeyest calls I have ever seen in thousands of hours of watching poker.
I have watched Lex for a while and he has an insane gameplay that I dont understand personally. He is very very loose but it always makes sense.
Esp with a tight player like Doyle Brunson
Ive seen Lex calling and losing with middle pairs against the nuts so many times that he had to hit that one legendary hand 1 time. :p

I'd love to do a documentary about this time period of poker players. Mostly in Vegas specifically and getting the stories from all the players around at the time. The side bets and ludicrous props would be just as interesting to hear about as the action on the tables.

I think that Ivey was on the way to call it, but Eli Elezra´s sleep accident didn´t help him, cause he kinda lost his way. But still, even thinking about calling this shows, how amazingly good player he is. And what a awesome, gutsy play by Durrrr!. Two of the absolute legends of this game.
He spent like 15 mins thinking about it so plenty of time.

the reason Ivey called Mercier is strictly because of bet size. Mercier simply got the sizing wrong and Ivey caught up on that. Truly a remarkable player that in 2010 played what most people are unable to play even now in 2021. Ivey is one of few that have a clear case of GOAT status.
What was wrong with the sizing? Half pot on the flop? Then all in?

In that Durr vs Ivey hand i wish Eli didn’t look like he was falling asleep and them start talking and breaking his concentration and feeling like he was taking to long because I really feel like Ivy would have called him had he just focused on it longer right after they said that you can tell he just gave it up in his mind
