Great video, a few workflow tips. 1. ctrl-shift-a to select none. 2. Instead of making two rects/circles, you can use select-shrink to clear the inside of a selection. It also allows you to control the size of the border with pixel precision.

It's better practice to not deselect after creating the circle and then shrinking the selection. That way you are sure the center is not skewed ;) Thanks for sharing your insight on this! Much appreciated!

I have managed to make this logo on Inkscape. First as a circle and as a rectangle, we convert them to path, break nodes, after that convert stroke to path to move away the lines.

It's impressive that you can do it (and have patience) in Gimp, but I would encourage people to do this kind of jobs in vectors - let's say in Inkscape.

Just one question and one remark. 1) Why was it to your opinion better to draw this logo in Gimp instead of Inkscape? 2) A simpler way to design the square and circle would be like so: draw the circle with oval selection tool -> Edit -> Stroke Selection
1.) I didn't say it was. I get a lot of requests to create logo tutorials with GIMP, so I made one. 2.) That method only works in theory. In reality, when you stroke a selection with GIMP the thickness of the resulting line is wildly inconsistent.

i love this tutorial.. this my first time in design, and i followed your step and got a perfect result. oh except for the Fonts. where can i get cool font like that? and also how did you customize you interface? i use GIMP 2.8 is it possible to customize it like yours?

Are you aware that you can simply drag and drop the rectangles for color selection at the toolbox on your picture to fill it with the back- / foreground color?

after you fill the circle, you can do "select > shrink" then delete for a more precise size

On a mac use "Fn" + "Backspace". That is equivalent to the "Del" key.
