Excellent riding. You were flying and were about to wick it up to an even faster pace after passing those slower riders. Congratulations, not many people can actually ride to the limits of their bikes. I've had the front of my 848evo do the same thing cresting a brief rise in the track, and the steering dampener kept things just enough in check.
I love this bike, and I loved my F1098 as well. I think a combo of this chassis with a little bit more power would be the perfect blend. As a track instructor/rider coach, this is a superior machine because it is easy to ride all day long, whereas the 848 just wants to be raced, not as comfy.
Very interesting. If you look at the track surface at 5.09 there's a long dark strip, as the bike runs over that the revs rise audibly. I wonder if that was a patch of oil that upset the bike. Seems quite a coincidence.
On this uphill is a small "roller" of a hill that induces a wheelie. I normally hit it vertical, but in this case I had taken a super wide line to pass the other riders and ended up having to hit the roller at a slight angle.Normally this just results in the front wheel hitting the ground with a little jerk of the bars, but in this case it started a violent oscillation. I also have a super-light set of wheels on this bike, so without the damping of a stock wheel it was probably way worse.
I figured the 848 came with a steering damper like its big brother. I guess Ducati cheaped out. Still, if you keep your arms loose and support your lower body, you can save a tank slapper. I've done it on my Speed Triple and 1098. If you stiffen up at all and death grip the bars you're done. If you keep your grip and arms loose, the forks usually sort themselves out quickly. A damper would add a layer of slap resistance, but not eliminate that possibility.
in this case everything is clear ... I'm member of an Italian forum about this bike some of the members already did fix a Steering Damper ...actually in Italy we don't have it available for this model so they did plenty of modify on other damper ...if you care i can collect info for you ;)
Yeah, the TC lights were coming on during the crash because I wasn't on the gas! Neosho, please view some of my other videos... no amount of "holding on loosely" would have saved any rider in the world from this crash, I can say that with no equivocation.
Glad you walked away fine. It looked pretty scary. You really have some impressive ride skills! What kind of mount do you have for the camera? It looks like it is mounted on the tank? Gopro suction cup is too big for the 848 I cannot get a reliable fit. Thanks.
Glad you're ok, great riding btw right up till the tank slapper. How do you like the SF for track duty? I see you also have ridin the 848, any preference either way? Looks like you can really flick that SF around side to side.
Amazing riding style, I wish I can ride same way :). Of course without crash at the end.. I am glad you are fine,.. I am beginner, one more reason to get dumper, that is my only chance to "solve" such situation....
Sorry to disturb you but what were you doing exactly before the crash ?...I'm a owner of the same bike and I never ever had this kind of trouble ...by atching the video it looks like if you came back on your seat really fast creating a problem on the stearing wheel ...is it so?
Don't really get why u didn't buy a steering damper in the first place? Ure suspension had been setup? Had issues with my S1KRR before suspension was set to my weight. Didn't wanna slap annymore after that. Even with the stock OEM steering damper
I had one of these at the track last year on my 848; mine was very fast and violent, but my steering damper saved the day. Quentin, I left you a message last week, did you receive it okay?
Dude you were hauling ass!!! great fookin ride. Represent streetfighters pwning race replis. Too bad about the tank slapper, that made me consider getting a damper for the wifes 848 SF. Front wheel just got loose over the bump and landed crossed up eh? its funny, as I was watching the video I could see it happening. I even said to the wife, thats the spot hes gonna crash.
Damn dude, this was very nice riding... Shit happens! But till that crash you destroyed the other guys! (the crash looked kind a awesome... hope you are alright!)
shitty... great riding before that though. Hope you were okay? How was the bike? I just put a steering stabilizer on my Z1000. Looks like a sweet track - the first time around one of those corners threw me for a loop.... it looks like its fairly straight downhill section out... but it turns left on the other side of a hill and continues right into the part I thought it was going to in the first place! Have you ridden the Ridge? which do you like more? Cheers
People are riding like jack-asses in this session. What group was it? I bet their were a lot of offs at this track-day; your video shows other riders with extremely poor riding form, crossed up, etc. Bad passes, wheelies in stupid places. None of that is necessary.Sorry about your tank-slapper;that is a tricky turn, and where many offs take place at ORP, for various reasons. It does look like your wheel came off a bit.Stay loose man! Typically, it will work itself out. Glad it wasn't bad.
Hey, Q! 👋 Here from IG story today 😆

Wow, not even leaned hardly! You did have a few shakes on earlier laps that kind of signaled trouble. Ouch!
Nice! . I know this is random but do you still have the Dani Pedrosa flip video ? , when his launch control failed .
Geez man. Glad you are OK.

Not at all, I download it from the camera, then upload it via this website... don't know how to do that yet!
Go Pro Suction is what I was using, I use the same mount on the 848, but have to set it on the side near the front.
Just gotta send it!
you guys silly??

Yes, most likely that is making you think it is speed up, the camera is on a very long cantilever off of a suction cup.
I was dazed, and my shoulders hurt for a while, but I was miraculously ok. I still can't scratch my back in certain spots!
Amazing riding style, I wish I can ride same way :). Of course without crash at the end.. I am glad you are fine,.. I am beginner, one more reason to get dumper, that is my only chance to "solve" such situation....
I will be putting a steering damper on this bike.
Was it windy outside? Maybe it was the camera noise messing with me but it almost looks like the wind was making this bike unstable...
Whats a roller bump? Would steering dampeners of solved the steering vibration? I new to riding, I want to take a race course.

No, I just went wide to pass those guys and ended up taking that roller bump at an angle.

How to avoid wobbling? Thinking about it makes me change the idea of buying a bike
Steering damper is a must
Don't hold on so tightly to the bars, stay on the gas, and the headshake will self stabilize rather than getting worse.
spooky the camera lands right in the sight of an ambulance.... DUN DUN dun
Wow in 1080 hd you can really see the texture of the asphalt :/
-rizzo-

Pulse the brakes, chop and apply the throttle rapidly, that's my professional advice.
Kick stands up!
braaptalk sent me here.
lol
What just happen???
lol, pause at 5:11
