I only got to one rally this year after a great season covering Hillclimbs, Formula BOSS and Karting. I couldn’t believe it when this played out at my feet. (Just remembered I went to the Healy Pass in May, but this is how it felt)
This could be the best 'vantage point' of the rally. The guy in the yellow jacket should receive an award from Motorsport Ireland for saving the day not just for Kalle and Jonne, but for all the fans and organisers and Black Motorsport. The guy in the red hat seizing the opportunity to get a unique selfie made me laugh.
I can imagine their faces when they go there to help just to realize its Kalle Rovanperä out of all the drivers haha. Could literally just be some random driver whose car broke down there, but happens to be the world champ Kalle Rovanperä.
Excellent video. Disappointing it happened, would love to see where he would have ended up. But great he was able to keep going . Irish rallying at its best.
He was +4:47.8 behind after the first stage in the Modified category. +4:57.8 after the second stage. Then +4:54.5, +4:53.0, +5:02.2, +5:00.6, +5:14.2, +5:17.3, which was also their final time at #15. They might have pushed a bit more had they not been 5 minutes behind. For reference, Modified category #2 was +18.6 at the finish and #3 +1:29.6. So, had nothing happened, presumably #3 finish based on their driven times alone without assuming extra pace. Not that you can really assume it'd be at all the same anyway. (Source: results.shannonsportsit.ie/results.php )
When he’s out of the car he implies they were being careful by driving ”very slowly” and the co-driver agrees by basically saying ”fucking slowly”. Sounds like they were very far away from pushing.
@@Altostratus1992 If true then the spectators didn't really fix it, and may have just gotten lucky that it started. However, if the problem was a loose or corroded connection on the relay, checking the connection could have gotten it working again, and replacing it still would have been a more permanent fix. I'm only speculating.
Correct. Spectators didn't fix it, it just started working again. Kalle even said in service the mechanics looked over the car and couldn't find what the problem was, only later they said it was a dodgy relay.
@@fragmentalstewmost Irish rallies (not sure about this historics even) normal to have a field of 150 cars, you'd be a long time going through them with 1 minute or more long intervals

He is trying his best to keep everyone safe and they are taking selfies! He probably won't do this job again inmho.
That man has a story for life, his friends will be sick listening to him 😂
Totally entitled to do it after this move.
Legend!
That is why Rallying is the greatest sport on the planet. What a superb video.
Absolutely
Precisely. F1 can go extinct as far as I'm concerned.

Superb coverage of a massive moment in this rally. Very well done to Vantage Point Video for capturing this.

Well done lads for getting Kaille back on the road🧐
Is that a question?

they surely knew if was him just from the car number
Thats TRUE rally spirit there 😊😊😊 well done guy's
Everyone pitches in to keep crews going
This is real rally community. Here in Finland our fans is fastest ever if somebody drive out and need help go to back to road. Perfect job guys. 👍👏
Well done lads 💪🏼🇮🇪🙌

Kiitos!
Now thats a story to tell the grandchildren!
This is why British Contractors love employing Irish lads - when the JCB breaks, they fix it. This spirit built the world.
Who needs service park? Great job fans and you for the video! :)
Rally fans are the best!💪👏
The guy is a king to check the engine and did it 🤩🤩🤩🤩👍
Priceless,skills at the roadside.
Perfect place to take a picture beside ring of kerry sign post 😂
Just doing the tourist thing 😂
Great job, well done. Nice to have Kalle and Jonne back on racing again. :)
Jesus, the engine noise! What a Motorsport!
Good work lads .
Cheers for coming over to Ireland 🇮🇪 🙌 👌
I bet Kalle and Jonne remenber those guys someway in future.
Thanks, lads!
Good man Johnny!! 🦾
Where in the world would you get service like that only in The Kingdom - the home of rallying. Well done.
So what was wrong with the car and what did he do?
That would be interesting to know for sure.
i wanna know too
It's a pain in the arsh when something small like that happens.
What an impressive collection of Mk II Escorts. Cosworth or Milly engines?
Good on the fans that saved the day good on yous
Car belongs to Jason Black of Black Motorsport Videos. Unfortunate to see that it let them down, good job by the fans helping them to get going again!
driving through a water hazard will do that to any old car.
Now I know where all the mk2 escorts went!..how good is this could only happen in rallying could only happen in Ireland
Can't beat the Irish,😊
Fair play Johnny O'Mahony

Btw, how long is between 2 cars ? 30sec?
I also noticed that! Is there 200 cars in the competition? The stage was busy af!
Goood old rally cars! ❤
Nice one
This is very oldschool rally moment, spectators with a knowhow to be helpful
Max on the blower reporting every one of those other cars for not slowing under yellow
He just recharged his 22Kw battery bank with his E-Cig.
Anybody know what the issue was and how he fixed it?
Dodgy fuel pump relay is what a comment from 4d ago said. Wiggle it and car starts again.

Awesome Job .....
Bath Shack sponsor the best cars 🚦
Why are the cars all 15 seconds apart?
Irish rally’s run 30 sec intervals.
Staggered starts for racing against the clock, not a F1-like grid setup.
@@gk3coloursred of course, staggered starts. But I'm used to at minimum 1 minute. More often I see 2, or 3, or maybe even 4 or 5.

I would live to know what was wrong on kalles car and how they mended it.
huh, never realized cars come this quickly in succesion. other videos always cut away after they pass.

It’s a modified 1984 Rear Wheel Drive Toyota Starlet.
brilliant
Lucky it wasn't in cavan, they would have charged him
Someone loan Mk1 Escort RS1600 for Kalle
Who needs WRC?
So what's actually the problem?

What went wrong with it??
water in the ignition most likely due to clipping the large puddle.
Sure look sure listen
👏👏👏👏🤩
That was a big puddle.
Plug lead off maybe?
So many 10 second penalties 😅
Hopefully Kalle hired this guy in his team.
And not a soul lifted when they went by that waving yellow...
No one fixed the car, after a few minutes it just started again.

..out of petrol ?
Jonne got out of car ,like he got info..
Normal isssue Jonne had not 😂exit car..

Get going again and flat to the square right Kalle
Fake because they didn't fix it. Didn't do anything to it actually. It just started working again for an unknown reason.
If you do not know your own car……
Rally is the only motorsport where fans are willing to do unpaid labor for the teams 😂

Nonsense
everyone standing there by the roadside on the outside is at a bigger risk than this guy taking a photo if you wanna be bitchy about it
Could you imagine Ferrari letting Leclerc race one of the classic Ferrari's at a historic race?😂
LOL Toyota 😅
What comes to rallying, UK and Finland are brothers for now on❤
Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK, they are separate independent sovereign nations just like China and Brazil are.
This is Ireland, not the UK.
Watch the flute of a steward hiding behind the rock 😂
The cars were up on them before they could see the flag 🚩 😂😂😂
Watch it again. The racing line was on the right hand side of the road so they were never in any danger.
