    QB Traits
    Arm Strength (ARM): Raw arm strength of the Quarterback
    Quick Accuracy (QAC): Accuracy in the quick passing game
    Middle Of Field Accuracy (MAC): Accuracy over the intermediate to deep middle of the field
    Deep Accuracy (DAC): Accuracy on high difficulty, "NFL" throws, deep and outside the numbers
    Off Platform Accuracy (OPA): Accuracy while throwing off platform and/or on the move
    Release (REL): 1-5 Scale on how swift the Quarterback's release is. 1 being long and slow (Tim Tebow), 5 being compact and fast (Aaron Rodgers).
    Early Snap Processing (ESP): How well the Quarterback can execute on well schemed plays to his first read on the play. This considers his ability to recognizing the coverage pre and post snap, to consistently get the ball to the right spot on time when his first read is open, all without putting the ball in harm's way on his first read.
    Late Snap Processing (LSP): Ability to react to new information on the fly when the first read is covered up. This includes (but is not limited to) the Quarterback's ability to come off a first read at the appropriate time when covered, to get through his progressions quickly, to see the entire field, difficult throwing windows, and overall make the best possible decisions with the football once the bullets start flying.
    Anticipation (ANT): How consistently the Quarterback is willing to anticipate receivers coming open both against tight man coverage and into zone windows. 1 being the Quarterback must see the receiver come open before he pulls the trigger, 3 being solid signs of anticipatory throws were present, 5 being a Quarterback with rare anticipation.
    Pocket Presence (PKT): the Quarterback’s Ability to sense pressure, manipulate the pocket and know when & how to use his feet to extend plays both inside & outside the pocket; this includes the Quarterback's ability to know when pressure isn't there and when to stay in a clean pocket or find avenues to reset the pocket against pressure.
    Play Extension (PEX): Both the physical and creative ability to extend plays outside of the pocket.
    Ball Carrier Creativity (BCC) Running ingenuity of the QB
    QB Scheme Fits
    Pro Style: Traditional, Pro-style, offense that puts an even heavier emphasis than other systems on the Quarterback's ability to read out defenses and make consistently good decisions with the ball from the pocket.
    Spread: "College Style", Quick hitting passing game that uses space and numbers to make reads faster and more simple for the Quarterback while letting playmakers on the outside provide a larger portion of the team's explosive plays. Typically Spread offenses also use the threat of a Quarterback's legs to add to those numbers problems. While decision making is still important, this system places a higher emphasis on pre-snap processing and Quarterback mobility than a Pro-Style system that more frequently asks the Quarterback to process defenses post-snap from the pocket.
    Play Action: A modern, "Shanahan", style scheme that utilizes a heavy mixture of wide zone concepts in the run game that set up the use of play action. This system uses the threat of play action and the run game to draw in the defense and simplify reads on the Quarterback which often simplifies his processing requirements. What is required in this system is the arm talent to consistently hit the intermediate to deep part of the field where these play action concepts attack. Mobility and off platform accuracy are also preferred for the heavy use of play action boots that these systems run.

    I watched Caleb a lot when he was a freshman at OU. What I saw was he just looked like football just came natural to him. If I remember correctly, his senior year in HS was wiped out by COVID, and looked like he barely missed a day. And his game vs Texas is one of my favorite memories as a Sooners fan. He’s gonna be really good in the NFL.

    Penix lack of pocket presence? Sir, That’s an absurd take. He was great at getting the ball out on time and not taking sacks. How about the game against usc when he threw the td to culp on the move dropping it in a bucket between 2-3 defenders. Polk in the Texas game to set the TD. There’s a highlight reel of these type of plays.

    Great evaluations, especially of Bo Nix, who I think would fit really well with the Vikings offense. Nix moves well enough to survive and operate behind MN's average NFL O line. His excellent pre-snap reads and tendency to hit quick passes in defensive soft spots means that JA, JJ and Hock each should get opportunities to get lots of RAC. It would be up to KOC to tell Bo who his first read would be. His B+ passing outside the pocket also bodes well, as does his ability to scramble for first downs. This adds up to a rookie QB that could survive starting on day one. Give him a legit RB1 for play action fakes, and you might just have a very functional system.

    • @Rock-Licker
      @Rock-Licker 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@thestormofwarI like McCarthy more; I think his style would be more similar to kirks (especially if we got a good rb for him to lean on a bit); and I’m worried about KOC’s ability to play call for mobile QB’s after Dobb’s fell off the face of the earth last season (once we were able to actually game-plan for him starting).

    came to take a look at who might potentially be the pick for the Giants, but honestly feel confident that Daboll will get the most out of any of them to maximize their talents which has me kinda leaning towards the ideal draft night being taking Nabers/Odunze at 6 and then using the 2 seconds or a future pick to get back into the 1st for that 5th year on someone like JJ or Nix. Whoever they take, I dont think there is a single coach I'd want to develop my young QB more than Daboll and Kafka after the job they've done with Jones last year, but the work with DeVito convinced me that whatever they're doing with the QBs is rare. To go from running the WC against the Jets when he first took snaps because you feared what he might do to winning 3 games with him and making people believe he was actually the Giants Purdy (the most insane shit ever to anyone who watched him either at Cuse, Illinois or here) was remarkable. So glad that Kafka was retained because I can't say for sure who is the better of the QB whisperers, but no matter what QB is taken or where, I will convince myself its the start of their fledgling HoF career.

    I like Taulia a lot as a backup QB, I could see him thriving in AZs stretch zone PA WCO. Love to draft him if he’s available in the 6th to compete with Clayton Tune as Kyler Murray’s backup.
    That might be a bit unfair though because I think Tune will take a huge step forward after a year in this system transitioning from the straight airraid he ran at UH.

    On your video in the background, Nix is hitting second and third reads repeatedly. Kind of tough to buy the first read only narrative. It’s also hard to buy your arm strength argument as well when he’s on tape running and hitting a guy in stride at 55 with the flick of a wrist. Good fit for Minnesota like McCarthy.
    Also on Nix, his ball placement is some of the best I’ve ever seen. He hits guys in stride, back shoulders, and in position for serious yac. Reminds me of Kurt Warner at this. It’s a seriously underestimated trait for the next level.

      First of all, just because you look one way first, doesn't mean that guy is your first read. College offenses design look offs when he first read is not in that direction. Second, he didn't say Nix was a first read only guy, he said that he's uniquely good at hitting his first read, there's a difference.

    I'm your rating system my feeling is the second column is the most important. As long as the arm strength and skills are adequate the processing is the most important. If be interested in you analyzing current NFL QB's and comparing them to your pre draft rankings. I know there is so much that goes into the success of a QB (system, line, coaching, receivers, injuries, franchise stability.......), but it's there anything you can glean from your pre draft rankings.
    I for example, as a Giants fan, am not interested in Jayden Daniels, even though many are super excited about the prospect. I'll root for him, and hope he develops, if they pick him, but I have my doubts. Do you have examples of processing improving drastically with good coaching?

    I feel like everyone overvalued the ability to "create" with Stroud last year and undervalued how good he is throwing from the pocket. I listened to Sikkema and Chris Simms in other interviews this past week, they must've been watching some other film because they were all about him. Nix, i like him but there is a reason he is a projected 2nd round pick like Penix. Oh, i appreciate what you do man! Thanks.

    • @ThatFranchiseGuy
      @ThatFranchiseGuy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've talked about this with other commenters but the main difference is just in my definition of pocket presence. Like I described, he's great at sensing pressure when it is there and avoids sacks but he doesn't navigate the pocket when there isn't pressure and utilize that space to extend plays.
      I have actually thought of this a lot and think I'll have two categories for these things next year

    I love your take on J.J. McCarthy. I have a lot of the same issues with him. He's just so inexperienced at the things that are important in today's game: high pressure situations, deep passes and having to carry the day. We just saw what that looks like in the super bowl. 49ers had the stronger team, but Purdy couldn't deliver on that last drive in regulation and Mahomes did. Those high leverage moments are what separate the good from the elite. Do you consistently deliver when it's down to you?

      That was your takeaway from the SB? Purdy left the field with 3 different leads (the throw he missed was when Chris Jones was unblocked and in his face). Mahomes played horribly through 3 quarters of the game, and the only big plays he made were due to busted assignments (blown coverage after a muffed punt, Bosa not playing the read option). Your memory retention is staggering 😂

I mean there was a game I can't remember, maybe Penn state but they ran an entire half, not one pass. Some people may think thats a bad sign, like they didn't trust him to throw but it was more that they knew they win just by running it down their throats but I believe he will be in the top 4 QBs taken once it's all said and done
