If you don't classify him as a "generational prospect" then you must at least classify him as a player with "generational potential" no? How often are we gonna see a player that shows shades of Mahomes/Allen/Lamar with proven qb processing coming out of college?
Exactly, and it's pretty hard for me to get away from the fact those two guys ahead of him in the grades(Burrow, Lawrence) played on absolutely stacked teams with good or great defenses. They didn't have to play with the mentality of "we're going to lose if I can't get this offense 6 TDs today".
What's funny is none of the guys you mentioned were considered "generational" either, as prospects. If guys like Mahomes (10th pick), Allen (7h pick / 3 QB taken), and Lamar (32nd pick / 4th QB taken) aren't tabbed as "generational" prospects, then nobody should be considered generational. It seems impossible to actually identify "generational". Just look at how many teams whiffed on Joe Montana (3rd round pick), Tom Brady (6th round pick), and Rodgers (24th pick). Nobody knows what generational means or looks like evidently, so let's stop trying to tab prospects as such.

As a fan of a team that is almost certainly not making the playoffs, I’m so hyped for draft season! So eager to see all the draft content and evaluations from you Marcus, keep up the good work!
Awesome video. I'm a Bears fan and I'm much more excited about Caleb than I was before. I initially had Drake Maye as my preferred guy, because I saw lots of underlying stats showing him with stronger results than Caleb. So I hope you are able to put a Drake Maye video out there. I'd love to compare and contrast.
I think it would be nearly impossible for a QB to make it this far without literally not being capable of playing within structure. Zach Wilson is probably the closest i can think of to fit that and even he has the ability to do so just refuses.
You showed Caleb do both quick throws and heavy improv deep throws. The key question is, does he understand when it's time to do each one? If he's simply a hot dog gunslinger, then he'll go down in flames. However, I don't think he's that simple. I think he will make the adjustment to faster defenders, cutting down on the scrambling. His team should also provide him with faster, more sure-handed receivers that can gain extra yards themselves, making his scrambles less needed.
I don’t see the point of Bears fans bashing him just because they want to keep Justin Fields. If anything bash your front office, coaching staff for not getting the most out of Fields while he was there. Ryan Poles could keep Fields just to please the fanbase and some of the players but he didn’t draft him so he has no loyalty to him.

great insight Marcus! Definitely sold me on the Bears moving on from Fields and getting Caleb. I think that his off-the-field issues are also something to consider in his profile, but obviously it's hard to do that without actually having met the guy.
As a Bears fan who has suffered through the literal Death Valley of QB’s from Cade McNown to Mitch Trubisky it is tough to give up on Fields, but low and behold we got the #1 pick again and this year “can’t miss” QBs are available. That said, in the last 15yrs the following QBs were “can’t miss” 2011- Cam Newton 2012- Andrew Luck 2020- Joe Burrow 2021- Trevor Lawrence 3 of the 4 seemingly lived up to the hype with Lawrence going from “maybe it was Urban Meyer’s fault” to “maybe last year’s playoff win was a fluke”. None of them won a Super Bowl with Newton and Burrow both getting to one early in their careers but also were plagued by injuries like Luck who decided to retire early vs stick it out with Indy. I see a lot of similarities to those guys in Williams, whether it would be bad coaching leading to poor development, possible injuries derailing his development or worst of all he loses his passion for the game and takes his money and retires before he gets hurt too bad like Luck.
15:00 what I hear you saying there is that Williams would be best suited for the Andy Reid, Brian Daboll, Mike Kafkaesque system aka the “NFL Air Raid.” There’s absolutely no need to stress out about whether he can or does play on time in structure if he’s not in a system that overly emphasizes those things.
Been watching all of your content since the draft class with Darnold in it and this may be your best video yet. Incredible analysis and the last 3 minutes of this video 🔥🔥🔥 bravo on close to 100k
I hope the Bears do draft Caleb Williams. The current argument here around Chicago is between keeping Fields while trading the #1 pick for a boatload of draft picks or picking Williams and moving on from Fields. While Fields can make some spectacular plays with his legs and occasionally throwing the ball, he's been far too inconsistent in his execution for me to think his ceiling is that of a Super Bowl winning quarterback. ps. Came across your channel after watching a short video essay by Logan Hurley describing your content as 'elite' along with Tom Grossi and it doesn't disappoint.
The issue with Caleb Williams is 2 things: 1. He played the last 2 years in the PAC-12 which lead to him playing late games and very few got to see him play live on any sort of consistent basis. 2. Recency Bias. USC was awful this year and wasn't anywhere close to making CFP. IMO, he is a truly special prospect. I think the term generational is a bit misunderstood at this point and honestly needs to just stop being used. He's a must have franchise QB, just like Kyler, Burrow, Lawrence and even Luck were. I put him in that category. Those were safe picks. Caleb is a safe pick.
As a bears fan, my biggest worry about him is that in a lot of USC's losses, he was a major reason for those losses with turnovers. It did seem that whenever a team had a defense that had disguised looks, he struggled. It also doesn't help that the bears never hire any coaches who can elevate a qb so a lot of those bad traits will stay.
Here's what scares me as a Bears fan. Play 8:55 he's looking left (read is probably deep to short). The out is college open and he turns down the throw. Then the play turns into pocket presence. That's Justin Fields. Passing up open guys then has to go in scramble mode. The next play the hitch is nfl open. He turns it down. Anticipation?
I have no doubts about Caleb. I’ve seen enough. I want my commanders to bring him back home even though we ruin quarterbacks. At some point we have to hit right 😂
After watching this video I would love to have Caleb Williams on my favorite team. Unfortunately I am not a Bears fan (go Commanders), so that is not going to happen for me. Cannot wait for the Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels videos who Washington might have a realistic chance of drafting.
Great content! Not sure why all negativity on Caleb, so many bad rumors around the kid. I blame of OSU fans. Caleb is not Tom Brady in processing so does most NFL prospects
He’s going to be closer to Ryan leaf than Payton manning But the good news is he go pt enough people, fooled that the bears are going to get more for this pick than they did last year
As a Bears fan, I need to prepare myself for the possibility that Justin might not get to finish out his rookie deal in Chicago and Caleb may be the next Bears QB. Gimme the info Marcus.
Watching him essentially see out of the back of his head when a rusher is bearing down on him on his “blind” side is kind of crazy. It’s almost like he’s got an NFL earpiece in his helmet and the offensive coordinator is telling him (during the play) “the right side defensive end got past our left tackle and is headed your way fast,” and then he just jukes him without even looking.
I think he is smarter and has a better arm than Kyler Murray too. People forget that Kyler was great when he was engaged and locked in but he has definitely ruined his own reputation by coasting laat season and then getting injured
You see the talent clear as day. However, you can't ignore he's 4-9 against teams ranked in the top 25 throughout his career and didn't look very good this year against some of the top defenses he played such as ND and Oregon. He'll be going up against the best of the best in the NFL so a lot of the stuff that wows us at the college level may not translate once he gets to the pros.
Patrick Mahomes never beat a single ranked team in college, Josh Allen beat just 2 ranked team in college, Lamar Jackson beat just 1 ranked team in college, Aaron Rodgers beat just 2 ranked teams in college. That’s 4 ranked wins between the 4 of those QB’s who are on the way to the hall of fame, I’m not gonna sit up here and say that what you’re saying doesn’t matter because that would be wrong, but if it mattered that much only Alabama, Georgia, and a few other schools QB’s would be talked about as first round talents at the QB position.
Love your point that he can play within structure but simply chooses not too. And I don't blame him for hunting for the TD or big play because USC would lose games where he dropped 45 pts. Most of the time he HAD to score. I think if he had a even slightly competent defense he wouldn't have to try to score on every play and be a bit more methodical with his throw selection

Great video, we have to stop using the term "generational talent." Luck was drafted in 2012, Lawrence in 2021 and now we have Williams. The way I understand it, a generation occurs every 20 or so years. Why can't a guy just be the best QB in this draft?
Oh really? Haha. Just like Bryce? Lance? Wilson? Fields? Lmao. This kid is not that good. You don't have to agree with everything the media tries to ram down your throat. Won like 6 games at a major conference powerhouse lmao. Small and slow by NFL standards. Constantly runs backwards from the pocket. Brittle. ... Gonna be a disaster. 😂
@@FantasySportsZen you brought up a bunch of QBs I didn’t mention. I said Caleb Williams. People just get on this app to argue their stupid point. If you knew anything about football you would know Caleb is definitely top 15 when he gets drafted at least.
I was at the Utah Usc game last october and good god his tape doesn’t do him justice, idk how he’ll translate to the nfl but from a college level he was other worldly
Maybe it’s bc I’ve always played different sports throwing at different angles off different platforms but I just don’t get how some QBs can’t throw on the run accurately. It’s not hard unless you’ve got a man in your grill but that’s tough in the pocket too
It sounds like Marcus is using a similar definition to the one I am using, but my understanding of generational for the NFL is 10 years. Admittedly that number works less well for quarterbacks, kicker, punters. The idea is that a good NFL career will last about 10 years so every 10 years 90% of the players have turned over. Sure some O-Lineman might make it 14 years in the league just like some people live to 100 despite the average life expectancy being in the 70's, but in general a 10 year NFL career is a good career. You could quibble with that a QB, where the talent is more elite because unlike other positions, only one player can start for a team, and where the rules try to protect players extending their career and argue, generational for QB should be like every 15 years, but in general I like the 10 year rule for generational. Broadly speaking there are about 10 positon groups 1. QB 2. RB 3. TE 4. WR 5. O-Line (and you could break that down in to T, G, and C's if you wanted) 6. DE 7. DT's 8. Offball linebackers 9. CB's 10. S So a generation is 10 year and there are 10 positions, you'd expect one positional group to have a generational talent per draft cycle. Certainly some classes would have none and some would have 2 or 3. I do think the term generational is probably overused; however the people who complain about act like a generation is like a human generation (25 to 30 years) and that there are not 10-12 position groups so we should only hear about generational talents once every 25 years.
Despite some interesting analysis, you failed to deal with the elephant in the room: 31 college games 83 sacks 33 fumbles 24 fumble lost. In short, Caleb's weaknesses are disturbingly similar to the weaknesses that derailed the career of Justin Fields. It's very hard to change your ways. Justin couldn't, no matter how hard he tried. Can Caleb? Maybe. But I wouldn't bank on it.
With the exception of the Kenny Pickett draft, every year there seems to be a "generational talent". I would say Mahomes and Lamar definitely qualify. Maybe an argument for a couple others. But the math doesn't add up that there's a generational talent in every draft.
We've seen several undersized QBs recently struggle to reach the hype - Bryce Young, Kyler and Baker. I'd always go for the prototypical guys - Herbert, Stroud, Lawrence, Burrow.
Kyler is a top 10 qb, Bryce is in an unplayable situation, and don’t ignore guys like Mahomes and Hurts that are similar sizes to Caleb Williams and very successful.
@@JLA203 That's true although Hurts seems to be banging his head on his ceiling right now, and I'm not sure what Kyler is right now, but as a Vikes fan I'd be rapt if the Cards stuck with him and passed on QB in the draft. Good video TFG. Question though, I'm wondering if when you do your final eval on Caleb, will your eval on Bryce Young from last year some what effect the eval for Caleb. Last year, you compared Bryce Young to Mahomes and so far that doesn't seem to be the case. Wondering if you've learned from that eval and believe that you will do better with Caleb. Can't wait for draft season and your coverage good luck in the offseason
I think the pocket presence was somewhat apt in comparison to what Mahomes developed. But he also had Tyreek/Kelce by the time he started to help punish defenses attempting to blitz him. Bryce had all the bad juju going for him with a bad coaching staff designing the offense, receivers that can't separate and a non-existant run offense. He also has a shitbag of an owner to deal with too while he's arguably the best offensive player for the Panthers on the field.
I'm curious, if Rodgers' pocket presence is so elite, why does he take so many sacks? Isn't holding onto the ball too long and/or failing to evade the pass rush part of pocket presence?
Love the video as usual! Also love what you said at the end. Some of the comments on my Caleb Williams video have been absolutely wild. I don't understand the hatred for him from some people, even if you don't love his game.
Fake headlines about him , paints his nails and alot of fields supporters who don’t want a new QB. Just gotta laugh it off respectfully and just look back in 20 years and giggle
Think all the bust comments stem from things off the field. Things like rumors being leaked about him not wanting to go to certain teams, wanting an ownership stake in a team as a rookie, etc. Seems pretty clear that to succeed as a QB in the NFL the game itself needs to be your addiction. Buying your own hype almost always leads to catastrophic failure in the league. Because you're going to a bad situation a lot to begin with, and you're expected to turn it around. You have to display good traits in these times.
How many times was there actually a known generational qb taken at the one or two spot without thinking the only three names that come to mind is Luck Payton and Elway
Sorry this is random, but do you still do Madden draft classes? I swear I used to always use the TFG ones and that’s how I originally found the TH-cam. Great work you’ve done
Right foot forward while set. Some teams prefer left foot forward. And while many claim it makes no difference. I've seen things be different. And think no one admits that it takes adjustment. Add that to learning NFL rules. A new offense. Speed of the game. It's gonna be rough for anyone. I think Caleb can be a good QB. I think Fields can too. So is Caleb so much better than Fields to warrant passing up on a massive trade-down haul. Or getting MHJ. I don't envy the gambles that have to be made.
I was for keeping Fields, but with the Bears losing their last game against the Packers probably means it over for Justin. This was a must win and last chance for him to prove that he should stay. Unfortunately he hasn’t done enough to stay, time to take a new route. Let’s hope Caleb Williams will be great!
Granted its a vicious cycle when a new regime doesn't stick with the QB they didn't pick but its built in with financial advantages in terms of team building. Caleb will be cheaper on 5 years so the Bears will have all that time and money to be aggressive in FA to strengthen the offense. If Caleb somehow fails in the coming years it will be on Poles and the coaching staff for not doing enough.
Does it make sense to say that Caleb is a generational talent but not a generational prospect? Meaning his talent is off the charts, but the area hes not polished in could derail his future unless he can temper it some.
@@xfranchize Not necessarily. While many prospects have areas to improve, the distinction here is that Caleb's talent is exceptionally high, making him stand out even among top prospects.

If you don't classify him as a "generational prospect" then you must at least classify him as a player with "generational potential" no? How often are we gonna see a player that shows shades of Mahomes/Allen/Lamar with proven qb processing coming out of college?
Exactly
Nope. Not that good at all.
"How often are we gonna see a player that shows shades of Mahomes/Allen/Lamar with proven qb processing coming out of college?"
Every year
The velocity he has on his ball is just amazing
One of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam concerning Caleb Williams. I am a Bears fans and I have seen videos and discussions either praising Williams or slandering him with no real analysis as to why he's either so good or bad.

Don't you think Caleb will be another Bryce Young?
I think it would be nearly impossible for a QB to make it this far without literally not being capable of playing within structure. Zach Wilson is probably the closest i can think of to fit that and even he has the ability to do so just refuses.
dumb take. he was top ten in qbr inside of the pocket
the ruined SAM DARNOLD and ZACH WILSON
i still believe in zw. the jets just fucking ruined him. i think he was pretty good all things considered last year.
They got the most out of fields, Caleb’s starting point is Miles better than the best fields has looked on the field his whole career
It's not a Fields vs. Williams debate. It's a Fields and MHJ+picks (on a team that is so far behind) vs. Caleb debate.
I'd keep Justin. Justin is a franchise QB and Williams looks like a Bryce Young clone.
Mitchell Trubisky and Daniel Jones had better stats after three years, so are they franchise qbs?

great insight Marcus!
That said, in the last 15yrs the following QBs were “can’t miss”
2011- Cam Newton
2012- Andrew Luck
2020- Joe Burrow
2021- Trevor Lawrence
3 of the 4 seemingly lived up to the hype with Lawrence going from “maybe it was Urban Meyer’s fault” to “maybe last year’s playoff win was a fluke”.
Awesome video. One of your best for sure. As a bears fan hoping we take Caleb, this is great and potentially depressing come April.
I don’t know how bears fans can look at this. See what this QB is possible of doing and being content with fields.
Bears fans like fields more as a person and a runner than an actual QB

Been watching all of your content since the draft class with Darnold in it and this may be your best video yet. Incredible analysis and the last 3 minutes of this video 🔥🔥🔥 bravo on close to 100k
Wow, thanks!
The issue with Caleb Williams is 2 things:
Caleb is a safe pick.
definitely like this format. Would also like to see some shorter ones on other positions as well
Great breakdown. The knowledge, the balanced POV. Superb !!!
Just another bust waiting to happen

Super excited for your draft content this year. Don’t know much about these prospects so I’m anticipating your insight.

Years from now, these idiotic comments talking about how the Bears should keep Fields and pass on Caleb are going to look extremely stupid.
22:18 It does look a bit busted with communication before the snap but pretty sure it was supposed to be a match 4, maybe a match 3
This is not shade but why does he struggle against good teams? I’m genuinely curious since he’s so talented
Awesome work here Marcus I know I give you a hard time with my giants but love the content my man
Love the YOLO meter such a good graphic!
I think he’s Kyler Murray in a real QB sized package.
Could see it.
I think he is smarter and has a better arm than Kyler Murray too. People forget that Kyler was great when he was engaged and locked in but he has definitely ruined his own reputation by coasting laat season and then getting injured
Bro I like that Kittle jersey. He's a beast. If I were an NFL team I would be excited to draft Caleb.
Great video, waiting on that Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels report.
Excellent analysis 💯💯💯
This channel is criminally underrated
Love your point that he can play within structure but simply chooses not too. And I don't blame him for hunting for the TD or big play because USC would lose games where he dropped 45 pts. Most of the time he HAD to score. I think if he had a even slightly competent defense he wouldn't have to try to score on every play and be a bit more methodical with his throw selection

Kinda sounds like you're just describing a prime Russell Wilson but with pocket presence
Great video, we have to stop using the term "generational talent." Luck was drafted in 2012, Lawrence in 2021 and now we have Williams. The way I understand it, a generation occurs every 20 or so years. Why can't a guy just be the best QB in this draft?
The people saying Caleb is a bust couldn’t be more wrong. This guy is a top 10 to 15 QB the second he gets drafted.

Broadly speaking there are about 10 positon groups
1. QB
2. RB
3. TE
4. WR
5. O-Line (and you could break that down in to T, G, and C's if you wanted)
6. DE
7. DT's
8. Offball linebackers
9. CB's
10. S
So a generation is 10 year and there are 10 positions, you'd expect one positional group to have a generational talent per draft cycle. Certainly some classes would have none and some would have 2 or 3.
I do think the term generational is probably overused; however the people who complain about act like a generation is like a human generation (25 to 30 years) and that there are not 10-12 position groups so we should only hear about generational talents once every 25 years.
Where would you rank Caleb among last years QBs?
He showed Bryce Young's grade, Caleb's was way higher, so he would rank him first.
@@JLA203 let them think Lawrence is good dude looks like rob Johnson replaced by Bryce young flutie would be just fitting.
Mahomes is only 1 inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than Caleb. Kyler and Bryce are significantly smaller.

Bryce young is still great, may just have the worst supporting cast of any QB in the history of ever
I am not ready to pull the plug on any QB after 1 season. Peyton Manning had a bad year his first season.
Isn't holding onto the ball too long and/or failing to evade the pass rush part of pocket presence?
he's not generational, but he'll be that for the Bears
Did he face a single blitz in this video? UCLA rushed 3 a majority of that matchup...
Teams blitzed him plenty, he's very hit or miss against it tbh
He's already ahead of the curve... making and processing throws that Fields can't or refuses to do... hope he's in a Bears uniform next season

@@mahmudmahmud2567 True! People REALLY seem to hate the painting his nails thing especially haha.
I’d love to see Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels draft profile videos aswell.
So basically any prospect
@@xfranchize Not necessarily. While many prospects have areas to improve, the distinction here is that Caleb's talent is exceptionally high, making him stand out even among top prospects.
@@xfranchize Not all talents exhibit high floor traits and stuff you can't teach. Few do get poorly scouted and turn to different players as pros. Also there is still more of a success rate of top 3~5 QB prospects turning into legit QB1s with great decade long careers than those chosen later in the 1st round or picked in day 2. Even far less in day 3.
