Thank you for posting this. You can read all day but nothing beats actually watching it done. This helped me understand the process A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great video guys! One minor criticism - you spent so much time perfecting this process, but I noticed that your frame looks a little too narrow, it appears that the edges of the solar cells will be shaded by the aluminum frame. don't want to be picky, and I will be following your advice on my own DIY panels... Thanks again!

Hey can I ask which brand of tab-wires did you use here? Why it can automatically stick on the surface of busbars without soldering Sn/Pb wire?

The tab wire moves in all directions when you try to solder. It's not that easy.

I ordered a kit a few years ago and am just getting around to building it and I don't see anywhere in your videos that explains attaching the junction box to the panel as well as attaching wires to it. Can you advise?

Hi Mark when you say face I assume you mean face of the cell? The gap between the cells is so the wire can go down to the back side of the next cell

Couldn't you tin the face of the solar panel, then lay down the tabbing wire onto the face of the solar pannel, without a 1/8" gap?

how to encapsulate these soldered cells manually ? plz suggest me any encapsulating materials instead of EVA film. As i'm building a 50 watt poly module hand-made ! plz do reply asap..

Where did you come across the alumminum at?

    Hi Mark,
Looking at the back side of the cell:-I am using flux pen.The right line was taped well and the middle line all 3 small strips were not tapped. I tried again . not tapped. I tried with a new tapping bar, still not tapped and now the three strips in the middle line are look like burned and black in colour. I did not tried the left line yet. Is there any way to clean the black line? or the cell is still good to use with left and right lines are tapped?

is there solder on the wire??

He is using tabbing wire with solder in it. He uses a hot 830 degree iron to melt the solder. If iron is not hot the solder wont flow off the wire

I wonder if there's an easier, quicker way to perform this soldering. It seems rather fumbly to hold them by hand, tack them, then run the length of the tab. Does anyone have a method to do this? Perhaps by the construction of a jig?

There are machines that do this step for you. I do use a small jig when i string the cells together.

Do you happen to have a video explanation, or can you make one?

which part the tabbing the stringing or the automatic machine?

      both?

there are jigs for stringing cells and i demonstrate one in the video that is easy to make. For tabbing cells it is easier to just grab a cell and go. As you see I do my work on glass, this pulld the heat off the cell to help prevent cracking.

We are providing new frames now that solved this issue available at americansolarsupply.com and on ebay. We also will be marketing a new kit in the next week that uses EVA. Ive been working on the best method for curing EVA in the home, school, and lab environment. It will be a 15 volt 20 watt kit that will fit in the oven. Normal build time is 2-3 hours. I am working on the video right now. Please visit our new sales sight as we are re-building the company from the bottom up Americansolarsupply.com.
