Boa Viagem is my wife's hometown. Beautiful, friendly people with a beautiful beach. Boa Viagem means "good trip.' Recife gets it's name from the reef at the beach. Helps keep the sharks out since not long ago, Recife was the shark attack capital or the world. I love this place.

It might still be the shark attack capitol of the world. In early March two people were attacked in Piedade Beach which is just south of Boa Viagem
But also depressive... with all of problems... but great that people still can enjoy themselves in such a cities.
The damage they did to the reef is irreversible I read somewhere. It was dredging of some sort to increase the size of the port? Still dangerous for shark attacks I’m afraid. That saying of ‘do as the locals do’ , well you’ll still see locals swimming and wading in that sea. Don’t!!!

Walking down a few to many quiet streets at night /late evening made me nervous for you Philly. Be careful and stick to crowded areas, worse that will happen is you get pickpocketed and lose a couple of dollars.

Recife is from the northeast region of Brazil and most people from here are browns, the region that has most of racism is the South where they are whites and descend directly from Germany and other European countries
