This is one of only a few videos that demonstrate the presenter's understanding of building envelopes. Most contractors do not understand the concepts, theory, and construction of a proper building envelope for their environment. By the way you constructed this, I assume you live east of the Mississippi or Canada.
I have a problem basement side wall ceiling leaking . Deck technician skipped this flashing. I dont know now I can install the flashing this or no😢..thanks so much
Doesn't the vinyl flashing go under the deck board? In other words, doesn't it go directly over the ledger? Do you have a video showing the work prior to the flashing? Thanks.
Ok, non-professional here with a dumb question....... but why have a ledger on lower decks? If the deck is 3-4 feet high to meet the door, can't the deck be freestanding? (I can understand higher decks needing more stability with a ledger. Great videos, watching them now!
Is there a way to contact you because I need your advice about the addition built directly onto ground. I could email you some pictures and see what you can advise. Thank you. Your website will not proceed when I click on the menu, I was looking for "contact us"
I bought a house with no flashing on the deck. The wood siding between the deck and the ledger is rotten (yes, that’s how they built it haha). Think I gotta tear down and start over? Not sure how I could separate the deck from the house to remove the rotten siding, ensure the ledger didn’t rot (it probably did), and flash deck
Thank you for this video! It looks great. Can I ask the product names for all of your "drip cap" items? You really made it look so clean on deck between the bottom of the siding and the top of the 1st deck board. Right now I have aluminum (I am guessing) flashing that goes from under siding in an L shape that sits on deck and looks pretty strange. 🤗
G-tape and alumimium drip cap. The drip cap is not specifailly designed for decks (often installed above windows/doors etc) but I like the finish edge above the decking.
Btw , this method -It’s correct , how it is supposed to be done , it’s not over done ! Most contractors are clueless on the finer points , the codes, the science of building..every one with a screw gun is a contractor nowadays..
tip when taking off siding i pencil or black marker top of siding on house so reinstall it lines up right where it was before and snaps back into place on top piece.
Not only the most informative, but just about the only thorough flashing installation video I’ve found. Thanks!
Thanks, glad I could help.
I watched a lot of videos today. This one is the greatest because it's funny, knowledge-based, and instructive.
Absolutely one of the best waterproof systems for a deck ledger ever. None or just flashing is several bricks shy if you know what I mean. Thanks.

You're still trapping moisture behind the ledger. Use Deck2wall spacers for the correct attachments
You would need to remove the whole board attached to the wall and ledger boards
Appreciate this! I have some rot under my door threshold above the deck ledger. You've given me some pieces to the puzzle to help fix it so thanks!!
Glad I could help!

That's awesome…. Here's to 6.7 million subscribers.
Maybe someday.
Who could you call for something like this? Because my deck didn't have flashing and now some of the pieces under the siding has rotten :(
Locked in for justice!!!! Def a subscriber now😅😅
I assume you follow Shawn from Premium Outdoor too.
Great demo, thanks!
🎉 amazing waterproofing 😊

I’m at the same boat as you. Need to find a solution.
I'm doing this now. Supports can be placed temporarily to remove from the house wall and cut.out any rot to repair.
Well, I am sorry to hear that. I am contemplating the same type of repair
What is G Tape?
Can you do this to a preexisting deck where water has leaked behind the anchor board into the basement?
It might help but would depend if the ledger has already been damaged.

@@decksbye3269 Thank you so much for your reply! 🙂
Belt and suspenders. Damn. Nothing should get through that.

Your holding all the water in
Please do not screw or nail the vinyl siding so tight so it can move like it's supposed to
I don't like j-channel because it collects water, dust and drains both sides depends on the slope.
Good point.
Omg stop
Nice informative video, thanks brother!!!!
Thanks. Hope it helps.
@@decksbye3269 let you know, starting next week, been binge watching your videos, much much appreciated!
