#PermacultureQ&A: could you use season extenders such as remay fabric and dark bricks or stones or gallon jugs of water by each plant to store the heat? Perhaps then you could get 2 sweet potato harvests???
I do believe there are a couple of sweet potatoes that have a shorter growing season. They might be smaller as you would dig them sooner. Lots of swt pot farmers in north/central MS. P.S. I have had some over winter and resprout.
I rotate the crops not because of depleted soil, but pests. If you grow the same veggies over and over again in one spot, the pest pressure gets much worse. At least in my experience.
I'm not sure if you saw, but the comment about baby June teething, I've seen a video of babies chewing on the bottom of green onions, on the white part, and that relieving their pain... You'll have to look for a video of it
I'll do your Patreon man of course hell yeah, William Bond you da bomb! Learning so much from you. Just bought a new property in CT, maybe I'll learn some things to do!! much love! Also for your new family June, Billy and Michelle ❤
Haha thank you so much! I was told about Locals and I think I might check that one out before pulling the trigger. Congrats on the property buddy! If you have any questions, just email me!
Instead of crop rotation specifically, you could put additional crops to give more food. Something that is a shorter harvest to. Could help also replace what the previous crop took from the soil? Even just a cover crop. 😅 For the snake issue you can use Sulphur (keep dog's away from it, as it'll burn their paws) or Snake Away
I have never heard Rollie Pollies called Woodlice but they have been destructive in ny garden this year. They ate my radishes, they ate plenty of Strawberries too. Not sure if them or the slugs (had a lot of those too this year) have destroyed a lot of my seedlings too. My broccoli and cabbage were definitely hit by slugs.
#PermacultureQnA - Hey William, I'm in Zone 6a, if I'm surrounded by thick wooded areas from the direction we get wind and storms from, is that enough to be a microclimate into 6b or 7a? What effect would a decent sized pond do if I added one?
#PermacultureQ&A I have a finished 18 day compost pile that's been aging since May. My goal is to make compost tea out of it to spray on my garden in the fall. However, I want fungal compost to make compost tea next Spring. What's the best method to overwinter my fungal compost so that I have it ready next Spring when I want to spray my fruit trees and newly germinated plants? Can I put some compost in a bucket in my basement or just leave outside and hope the fungi come back after they thaw? Thanks to you and your dad I have made 7 18 day compost piles the last two years and have comfrey growing in many sections of my yard! You guys rock.
Im in East Texas planting young fruit trees. What do you do for rabbits or rodents? To they girdle your young trees? I’m almost next to the forest (400ft away) and I’m wondering if they’ll damage the trees, they are unprotected right now but I might put some grow tubes
# permacultureQ&A Hi William, I have a bunch of stinging nettle and thistle that has gone to seed. As I am still learning the 18 day compost method ( first on turned out pretty good) I don't want to put them On the compost. My fetid swamp water drum (David the good style) is already full with weeds so my solution to deal with my thistle is to turn it into biochar. Do you have any other idea of dealing with those weeds in order to not further spread the seeds?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. One more question about the orange oil where do you get it ? I live in central Texas by the way and I do have an anteater but she is are pet dog and she is kinda lazy and prefers the smaller ants and I am not joking about that she will lay across a line of ants and lick them off of her paws.
Thanks for this info! So helpful! 🔥🔥
Haha thanks so much buddy!
thanks, I appreciate your taking the time to answer.

I have a video that's about to deal with that very thing. Thank you!
I love ALL The Permaculture Consultant videos!
Thanks buddy!
I always thought crop rotation was to mitigate diseases. Nutrient deficiencies are relatively easy to remedy with fertilizer.
Great video, William! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank YOU!
Thanks that answers my question i have comfrey in my veg garden and I chop and drop the leaves during the growing season.😊❤Thank You Sweet Man.❤

I didn't know sulphur kept snakes away. You would think it reminded them of home 🔥. Good to know! 😂
Thx William! 😊

I would say it's the slugs. Rollie Pollies are usually a pretty good sign of a healthy garden. Bring in some ducks for the slugs.
@@ThePermacultureConsultant I've seen the rollie pollies in my strawberries and on my radishes. I didn't think they were bad until this year.
@@ThePermacultureConsultant my Dad use to raise ducks but Racoons killed them. This was back in the 80's. I see way more Racoons nowadays.

Would be cool to see you on a platform like abundance+ at least that is family owned. Completely understand needing to use patreon
Not a big fan of that man. I would rather upload the course for free to TH-cam.
Duuude! I've been saying we should get an anteater out here - want to go halves on one??! 🤣😜
I'm so down 😂

Locals is an option that doesn't utilize AWS servers.
I know, the UI is weird.
I'm not sure what that means but it got me looking into locals and I think I might be going that direction. Thank you!

#Permacultureq&a What the heck to do for squash bugs?
#PermacultureQ&A what is your recommended reading list for permaculture, reference books are great too.
I think he would have better luck with sulfur than diatomaceous earth to keep away snakes
Take away the food source, and the snakes will move on.

You might be able to find some in the cleaning sections of stores. Amazon also has it available.

Is there a tiny form of a broad fork for ladies over 75 yrs?
I know that meadow fork makes a smaller one, I think that's the idea behind it...🤷🏽♂️
Sorry I messed that up - dang... I think it's called meadow creature...sry...
I just use a pitch fork with 5 forks.
What is the purpose of using the broadfork?
It loosens and aerates compacted soil.
It also helps get below the compaction layer.
He explains at 7:20
What is that tool?
My question as well!!
Broad Fork.
@@colleenbow777 everyone with one usually recommends them
It's a broad fork. Really awesome for compacted soil.
Ya might wanna research anteaters first. They go full gangsta and will disembowel you
