The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

@@veronicathode1466 The city likely already knows about, but most cities don't take care of abandoned cemeteries. Most are on private land, and those on city property but not within a residential or business area are ignored, along with the unused property around them.

It looks to me like some of the stones have been replaced, maybe in the last 50 years. It looks like someone was taking care of the cemetery at one time, but it doesn't take many years of neglect for it to get to be very overgrown. It is too big a job for one person or family. Maybe the family can donate the land and some extra to the City to expand the cemetery, and in return the City can upkeep the entire thing.

This cemetery was documented on Findagrave in 2010, it's the Wray-Imeson Cemetery in Spring Grove, McHenry County, Illinois, USA. It's really sad that families don't know enough of their own family history to know where their people are buried, or take care of their graves.

My husband and I accidentally found a body once. Partially buried on the side of the road... he'd been missing and dead for a year to the day we found him.
We found out of course later, the details of his life, and while he was not a nice man, they did arrest and convict two men for his murder.
It was a very creepy event that we've never forgotten.

First, thank you Ron for another exciting adventure. Please check yourself for ticks after tromping around in the woods ( my son is a National Park Ranger and I nag him as well). Secondly, I once found an old abandoned cemetery in a wooded area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen Md when out hiking with my Dad fifty years ago and I always wondered what happened when land gets bought and families move away and there is no one left to care for the departed. It seems like there should be some agency that cares for those who have no one left. Anyway, there is an obit for the one person whose stone you found on Find a grave, John Caesar Craine (1853- 1902) if anyone is interested. Thanks again Ron.

Very interesting adventure here. It’s a shame the cemetery can’t be cleaned up and respected. Thank you and Deb for researching and bringing the family, the names, the photos back to life.
As sad as it is, my own family has a cemetery on the back corner of an old farm. Originally was the family farm. My great grandparents and a great great grandfather are there, as well as about 40 graves. I haven’t been there since the 1960’s. I spoke to a cousin recently, the farm belongs to someone else outside of our family. We both said it’d be nice to go there to visit cemetery. Although a bit hard as we’re older. It’s 3 hours away.
Maybe I can sometime. We’d have to get permission to onto the land.

It is sad to see such history return to the overgrowth. There was a grave yard over the hill from our old home place. We left the place in 1957 and nobody has lived on it since. the fellow who bought it finally tore the buildings well what was left of them down about 10 years ago, he has now passed away. We went out to the place a few years ago when my wife was failing because of cancer to visit and found the farmstead was now part of a large wheat field. We drove over the hill though and that grave yard where my paternal grand parents and one uncle were buried is still well groomed and cared for. A sign says it is maintained by the ladies aide for the old church, now long gone that we used to worship at in the 50's. My late mother was a member for years of that ladies aide. There are perhaps 40 graves in that graveyard.

❤ I have been binge watching all of your videos ❤ So interesting and I love your storytelling ❤ I went to Illinois once, a very small town. Fairberry, Illinois. I’m not sure if I’m spelling that right? But my ex husband is from there and his huge family all live there. But, I found a few awesome cemeteries in Illinois, took tons of pictures. I thought I was weird because of my interest in them but here we have you taking us on these journeys all over the place and it just really cool. Thank you for sharing all of these videos and stories 💕💕💕💕

There is a cemetery overgrown this way in Eugene, Oregon. It is on a hill that has eroded and left caskets exposed. The founders of Eugene are there. Used to take a path over the cemetery to get to school. Many years ago. It was very old then no one went there. Where I began to love going thru cemeterys. So much history I learned there. I never met another living soul there.

Yes to lifting creaky lid! So many times, we pass places with names and wonder, gee, why is it called Lake Mary or something like that. Here, you have discovered the WHO the lakes are named after. So cool! If only people would pay attention more to the history of where they live.

I hope you wear tick repellant! It would be so nice if the owners made a wood chip trail, repaired the gate and had a board with a picture of the first settlers set up, along with the information about the lakes. That was so interesting. I don't understand how this tiny cemetery could be so forgotten.

So very sad to see their place of burial is not cared about at all. Breaks my heart. I wish the community would come together and bring the cemetery back to a nice place .

This is crazy that someone who is such a pioneer and his entire family almost ends up in place that has big huge cemetery markers, that they then let get all overgrown like this! Who lives in this place today that lets it be this way?????

It’s very sad this graveyard is pretty much lost but at least those people are resting in peace because no one is bothering them. I would definitely pay to look inside.

This is so interesting. Such fantastic History. Yes much easier for you to walk. It would be good if they did get to clean it up so others that may have Ancestors there, can walk around. You really go through a lot of trouble so we can see all these headstones. Thank you so much Ron.
