Ron, I'm in the Country, about 20 minutes from the cemetery, and I spoke with McHenry County Conservation and Greenwood Township today, 4/8/2024. Conservation was taking care of it as prairie land, so they would just do a burn. Not too long ago, maybe after you published this video, the Land Conservatory in the county started the process/paperwork to obtain the property so that they can legally take care of the property properly. This process could take another 6 months to a year for the paperwork to clear and ownership deeded to the Land Conservatory. Until this is completed, nobody can legally do anything to the property. The people in Greenwood Township would love to clean it up and take care of it, but they don't have a legal claim and they don't have the funding to undertake the cleanup and maintenance. The representative I spoke to runs the Greenwood Cemetery, and it is very well maintained. I will follow-up as best I can, but at this point it is tied up in red tape. Once it clears they will probably be looking for volunteers to help out. I will try to keep you posted on the progress.
Thanks Jerry for doing the leg work and finding this info. Interesting. Well, my main take away is that I don't think it is right that they would be listed to plan for a burn. It's not a marsh or wetlands. Sounds like narrow minded process makers if they are limited to only do that, or nothing. Obviously, this is a cemetery. If a burn is done, it will char - and over time, will ruin the monuments. It sounds like folks there in the conservation department are just reading a section number in a reg. book. Anyway, hopefully they figure it out. I will be back this summer to check on this place again. Hopefully they get it right. "A burn"...sheesh. SMH. Secondly, you mentioned that the representative you spoke to who runs the Greenwood Cemetery indicated that it is very well maintained. If that is what they call "well maintained", I would hate to see what unmaintained looks like. Thanks for keeping an eye on it. Keep us posted Jerry!! 🤙

I know the feel of it. I went to my childhood home. It's like that cemetery.Overgrown with weeds.Very tall ones.I could only see just the roof.I couldn't go through there.
The condition of the cemetery is horrific!!! You can't even see the sign with the name of the cemetery on it unless you remove the tall plants hiding it. Those tall shrubs that you were walking through at 3:39 are called Staghorn Sumac. One can harvest the reddish orange heads and make sumac lemonade out of them. Check to see if they are ready by rubbing your fingers on them and then putting them to your tongue. If that tastes very, VERY tart, then you are ready to make a pitcher of it. This video reminds me here in Nebraska that it is time to go pick some. A glass of that will contain more Vitamin C than a glass of orange juice.

That trek through the cemetery was impressive. Thanks for sharing. It’s sad the cemetery in so overgrown. I like how you so obviously care for these graves and history.
We found our original family cemetery 20 years ago it was now in the woods the trees have overtaken it. There was a tombstone grown into a tree and about 2 feet up….. and it turns out my great great grandfather had a trust that is still paying a monthly stipend to a family to maintain it….

I wonder if there is a historical society in the area, they would be very interested in the cemetery you found, and might organize a clean up day there.
Oh! What a MESS! If that's where my family was burried, they would have to go without my visit. Yes! Someone needs to make that a service project, or something! Thanks for being so brave to fight your way in to show us what you could. Although, I worry you will step in a hole 🕳 and break your leg or something. Greetings from Dublin, Ireland. I just love LOVE your videos. Very informative, interesting, fun and in some cases educational. Please keep them coming. Safe trip to your next adventure. Take care Liz 🙂 💕
Hi Julie, if it wasn't these types of vlogs I wouldn't know anything lol. Although it would be great if someone in zirelNd did the same type of vlog. Ireland is such a beautiful and historical place to visit.
That is so sad that the Queen Anne Prairie Cemetery isn't taken care of and left to the weeds to swallow the graves up. We should all write to the city of Greenwood, Illinois and complain. You are brave to go through those nasty weeds. Heck to the no would I! LOL Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull born August 10, 1947...Hey it's his birthday! What are the odds?! Happy Birthday Ian! And yes, he is alive 😀 I feel so bad for the cows with all those flies all over them. I wish I could do something to help rid them of the flies.
Whew. I kept hoping you didn't fall in an old, uncovered well, thinking it might be on old farmland. Awesome adventure for early morning here in Georgia. Impressive headstones have withstood time. Obviously people of some means, descendants probably could afford to keep it cut back. I think the flowers are Lupine Prairie, seem familiar from Chicago childhood. Online pictures in different seasons reveal a beautiful resting place. Woodstock is a pretty town, but I've never seen that cemetery. Thanks for a great tour off the beaten path.
OMG Ron, you're like a little kid in a candy store. You can just hear how happy and enthusiastic you are as you are walking through the Cemetery. Love it!!
That grave yard is uncalled for, that was sad.....High school ( history class) should set up a program for extra points on cleaning it up, fixing and D2 cleaning the head stones. Have parents with pick up trucks haul the very tall weeds away, thats just an idea.... Thank you Ron for investigating the grave yard.
The dead is forgotten, I so here in the U.K. walking with you in the overgrown cemetery. It is ashame they allow it to be like that. God bless you Ron. You done a wonderful job remembering the unknown dead, sleeping until ressurection day.
If they had signs up, they should have put them where they could be seen. Also, if "they" own the cemetery, they should be cleaning it up and giving respect to those who are buried there! They're probably embarrassed that you caught them on video! I'm glad you blocked and deleted them. Good job! I hope you're enjoying your vacation!!
Now you have inspired me to re-promote this episode, tomorrow it re-release to a wider audience. That's what they get for hitting my hornets nest. Oops.....🫣 😀
You're so right, Ron, I would NOT go in there! But I have to admit, it's really fascinating. Thank you for taking us along on your adventure. It was incredible!
What a SHAME! The owner of this cemetery and land should be cited by the city, how disrespectful to those that rest there!!!!!!! Thank you for bringing this cemetery the attention it so badly deserves!
I’m sure plenty would volunteer to tidy it if given the opportunity … why do they have to go through all the red tape. It seems an easy solution to me and a benefit to the land owner.
It is amazing to see how some cemeteries are not taken care of. I hope you’re able to get back there and clean it up. The cows were cute. Thanks for taking us over there to see them.
I would be very nervous walking around in that cemetery the 🐍, bugs etc. Very sad no one at all is taking care of that old cemetery. Poor souls forgotten. Thank you for visiting this cemetery.
They don't want it exposed Ron what lack of respect for those souls. I watched this twice now and still can't believe what they let happen there. Shame on them they should be ashamed. Thanks Ron for all your videos.
Amazing adventure! Saddens me that cemeteries such as this go uncared for. Never ceases to amaze me the information available online these days. Thank you for providing a few pictures of the families. Way to rave the “jungle” Ron! 🙌🏼
Hi Ron, what a sense of adventure you have! Great trip, it's sad that this cemetery isn't looked after by the local town (however far away) I really enjoy watching your channel, keep it up, regards from Steve Young, Hull, England 🇬🇧
Those weeds look very much like what we call a stag tree or stag horn sumac. They can spread really fast as they put out suckers which grow into another tree, so on and so forth. It's also known as the tree of life....I used to have one in my back garden and had to cut out the new growth that would shoot up in different areas surrounding the trunk, didn't want it to take over the rest of the plants.
Wow. Nice adventure footage. I'm glad you had the tree line and HWY for directional reference otherwise you might still be in there. For a moment it looked like you in a Predator movie😅 Thank you for bringing us along!
It would be nice if that community would get together this fall and clean that cemetery up. When I saw those flowers, I thought of the saying, “bloom where you’re planted.” No one sees those flowers blooming at those graves, but they’re doing what they can to brighten those forgotten places.
Wow thank you Ron for wading thru the tangled weeds! By saying their names once again they are not forgotten. Thanks for your tenacity going thru all that! Love ur vids from ohio❤
I have been a Find A Grave contributor for going on 13 years, never ever have I seen a terrible overgrown “forgotten” cemetery as this! Thanks for braving the wild!
Ron- totally amazing trip you took us on. Shamefully neglected but you are one brave soul to honor those buried there. This is why I love your channel and the FAG info is very interesting. Loved seeing the cattle. Thank you so much
That was an AWESOME adventure! Makes you wonder how many other abanded graveyards are scattered throughout the country. At least some of these people you have uncovered today are no longer forgotten. And always good to see your wild kingdom adventures. Animals are really attracted to you. Thank you, Ron, for this really cool walk in the woods.
Wow...Who knew you'd be trekking through a forest of weeds. It's crazy how huge those weeds are. On a positive, maybe the weeds have protected the stones from the elements.
Sounds like the “owner” has a guilty conscience to me! What a jerk! Amen to you for exposing the condition of the cemetery!!! I remember this episode and if this is how the “unforgotten” are treated, I can’t imagine how the forgotten are treated! WOW! Keep doing what you’re doing, Ron.
Morning from Ireland, hot and muggy in Ireland today, plenty of rain with the heat, not what l ordered with my morning coffee today. All the best Ron, great upload.
Yes Sumac spreads like crazy! We made the mistake of buying a Staghorn Sumac tree for our front yard in a former house. The roots would form shoots that came up all over the place. Our neighbor at the time said “just keep mowing!” 😅
@naomisgram1 I've had landscapers try to tell me that plant was POISON sumac. Of course, they want to charge extra for special handling. It's a great way to test sleazy landscapers.
I wish the township or community would take care of their cemeteries, its sad really. The people buried there deserve it. Its our country's history...😢❤
Ron, first of all I was a huge Jethro Tull fan back in high school. Saw them live twice at the Inglewood Forum. Second, I always am amazed at the lengths you go to show us amazing things. I always finish the video saying to myself. I can’t believe he did that. That’s exactly what happened this time to LOL thank you very much.
I'm so glad I'm not the only taphophile! I love Graves and cemeteries due to the history and people they represent. I think most people's lives would make great auto biographies. Thanks for keeping memories alive and for the channel.
Now that's an adventure. I appreciate you, Ron, but sometimes you scare me half to death 💀☠️ besides all of the things that could live in there, there are poison plants of all kinds. It's a shame this community isn't caring for this cemetery. It cost so much to do anything now, I can understand.. Still a shame 😢 Thank you, Ron, as always you have done an amazing job ❤️❤️❤️
Ron I totally agree they need to clean up that cemetery and show the respect that those settlers deserve what a shame thank you for showing what you could and giving us some information on the ones you could be safe Ron
Very sad the condition of this cemetery!😢 A small overgrown cemetery in our area was cleaned up by the Boy Scouts. There should be local volunteers that could do the same thing. It’s really a disgrace that it is left this way.😢
Should call you Ron Carlson of the Jungle. Great fine and those large stones were impressive and the writing still very good. I would hope that some historical society or pioneer society would take a challenge and clear up this cemetery. Especially if you said there are 60 graves there.
Real shame old cemetery are forgotten and not cared for, being so old they should be treated as historic monuments and preserved. Loved the video just like all your other videos even though I dont comment often. I've said it before and will say it again I love how you say we and talk to us as if we're right there with you, idk it just feels really nice as a viewer. Also thank you for letting me know about your other channel yesterday and the 5 parts video of your Franklin Expedition, it was really nice with some very sad parts to it too like when you came across the human remains and the story about the tribe being moved by the government. Also you must have balls of steel going over there by yourself, must've been very scary though when you got caught in the snowstorm knowing you had wolves around somewhere following you and you couldn't see anything because of the storm you wouldn't have seen them coming. Glad you made it back in one piece to your family and friends and now you're making awesome videos for thousands to watch. Must be really proud of yourself with everything you've accomplished. Take care and hope you have a blessed day and keep doing what you do best!

Hi Julie, if it wasn't these types of vlogs I wouldn't know anything lol. Although it would be great if someone in zirelNd did the same type of vlog. Ireland is such a beautiful and historical place to visit.
@HollyCranfan Thanks Holly, I'll look them up.
I was worried about the same thing with the well.
Good job!
I hope you're enjoying your vacation!!
yep, thats what I was thinking, you are perceptive Rita.
It is sad when cemeteries become so overgrown. I am glad you stumbled on this one. I would like to see it all cleaned up.
What a SHAME! The owner of this cemetery and land should be cited by the city, how disrespectful to those that rest there!!!!!!! Thank you for bringing this cemetery the attention it so badly deserves!
Owned by the natives. It dont beling to anyone it was stolen
I’m sure plenty would volunteer to tidy it if given the opportunity … why do they have to go through all the red tape. It seems an easy solution to me and a benefit to the land owner.
At 65 didn't know people owned the land thought it was city goverment
I just love your sense of adventure, it is wonderful !!!😊
That was fun! My husband & I do this as well. Interesting stuff, but what a pity they're forgotten. Thanks Ron!
It is amazing to see how some cemeteries are not taken care of. I hope you’re able to get back there and clean it up. The cows were cute. Thanks for taking us over there to see them.
Thank you for sharing. I hate seeing it overgrown and hopefully someone will see this in the area and will consider getting some locals involved.
Thank you Ron for always being willing to remember the forgotten! Be careful of the critters I. These overgrown cemetery areas.
I would be very nervous walking around in that cemetery the 🐍, bugs etc.
Very sad no one at all is taking care of that old cemetery.
Poor souls forgotten.
Thank you for visiting this cemetery.
Thank you Ron for taking us along, stay safe out there.
Talk about dedication! Blazing through a sumac jungle to bring these lost names back to life well done Ron!
This is the type of content I love, what an adventure, thanks for remembering these souls
Ron, you’re a nut! Thanks for braving the jungle. Very cool.
Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson)is very much alive. In fact, today is his 76th birthday! Thanks for the walk, Ron. Such a shame that it is so unkempt 😔
I love this channel! Much respect to you! have a great day everyone 😊
It would be nice if that community would get together this fall and clean that cemetery up. When I saw those flowers, I thought of the saying, “bloom where you’re planted.” No one sees those flowers blooming at those graves, but they’re doing what they can to brighten those forgotten places.
you are a brave, brave man. thank you for all your dedication. that was a literal jungle.
These are surely some old stones. Really cool to see!
Wow thank you Ron for wading thru the tangled weeds! By saying their names once again they are not forgotten. Thanks for your tenacity going thru all that! Love ur vids from ohio❤
Thank you for remembering these people. I have never seen a cemetery so overgrown. It’s so sad. But very good video. Fascinating.
Thank you so much
Thank you for calling attention to these forgotten souls
Goodmorning from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🫶🏻
Good morning from england 👍
That was an AWESOME adventure! Makes you wonder how many other abanded graveyards are scattered throughout the country. At least some of these people you have uncovered today are no longer forgotten. And always good to see your wild kingdom adventures. Animals are really attracted to you. Thank you, Ron, for this really cool walk in the woods.
Wow...Who knew you'd be trekking through a forest of weeds. It's crazy how huge those weeds are. On a positive, maybe the weeds have protected the stones from the elements.
Mid 1800’s that reminds me of the western movies 😇, big salute for walking through that jungle!! 👍
Thank you for wading through the brush to show us the cemetery. Sad that it hasn’t been tended to.
Filled with Sumac trees. Thank you so much for this effort. Shame this cemetery has been let go so badly.
You reminded me of Rambo in the thick of it Ron!!! You did a good job battling with those weeds!!! Thank you for taking us on this walk with you 😊
Just know this is gonna be good! thank's ron..
I am surprised how well the headstones have held up. It’s a shame that the cemetery is not kept up. Thank you for taking on the challenge to show us.
I wish the township or community would take care of their cemeteries, its sad really. The people buried there deserve it. Its our country's history...😢❤
This is crazy! You're a tall fella & these weeds were surely taller than you in places! Thank you for taking us along. This was cool!
Indeed, they were 3 feet over my
Head
Ron, your videos always bring me such joy to watch. Thank you for all of your efforts. Your channel is by far my favorite on TH-cam. ❤
Thank you for crawling through to show us. There is do much history there. That town should be ashamed for not taking care of it's forefathers.
Ron, only you would go through all that for us! Thank you. Take care, It's a jungle out there!!!!
Love that your able to find the forgotten much appreciated ❤
Great adventure, the tall weeds were unreal being in a cemetery, I wish someone would clean it up someday. Thank you Ron, take care
Good morning Ron. From England UK.
Could be a high school history progam to earn points , people in jail who dont have a bad record get out sooner program. Just a thought..
Thank you for a fascinating upload Ron as always 🎉
Wow ! talk about jungles. Thanks Ron ! I appreciate your dedication to the deceased !
Facinating Ron. Hope someone cleans it up. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the great note!
@@FacesoftheForgottenoh you're very welcome and it's well deserved 😊
Hi ron caught your video before bedtime it is 11 pm Alaska time. What a shame that cemetery is not up kept. Thank you for doing this video in that cemetery. Glad you wad ok.
First I Love your shows!❤❤❤❤❤
You are a adventurous man to work through that!
You needed a Machete!😊
I cannot believe no one has taken care this historical cemetary, what a shame.😔
Thanks Ron, that was awesome. Thanks to Deb too for the info! 😃
Hi Ron watching from Australia 🇦🇺good evening Its a shame they don’t take care of the cemetery
WOW! First of all Bless you for going through that jungle. It is such a shame that a cemetery ends up like that, how sad.
Watched this again, this was literally a jungle that you pushed through to find these forgotten souls Ron. SHAME on the owner 💔
