I totally agree with everything you just said! Another reason is related to reason #3. I work in the city, but in my country (Philippines), we have towns with no radiologists. If they're lucky, a mobile x-ray comes to them and then they send the images to me. Some towns are very far away, but the latest tech makes our services accessible to them. That makes me feel like I made a big difference in their lives (while in my pajamas!) ^_^
+Aileen Desipeda haha yes exactly. i think its interesting that not only can we work in our pajamas, we can still do a really great job at it cuz our field is information based. that is great to hear what you are doing in the Phillippines. thanks for commenting and watching- sg
Dr. Gaur first of all congratulations for your videos, second excuse my english, I'm from Colombia and I'm a physician, I've been working for about two years and I have an absolute interest in radiology as a career. The passion for anatomy, little details in the diagnosis and interventional radiology are my reasons. Your videos show a really mature and realistic perspective of the profession, about the good and the bad things, which is important cause we know there's no a perfect specialty, but for my radiology is the best by far. Let me ask you a question Dr Gaur, how is radiology or any residence in the US? I ask you that because here in my country the cost of a medical residency is about $16.000 per year with maintenance expenses, and doctors don´t get paid while doing their residences, we paid for working! Thank you Doc and again congrats.
residency is generally a good experience in the US. We are paid, about $50,000 to $70,000 per year. This is for a work week that can range from 40-80 hrs a week, with some weekends on call. hope that helps. thanks for your comment - sg
Your videos are so inspiring. Im from India, and about to join for my first year in radiology residency. Since we had very limited exposure in radiology during med school , im completely lost on where to start! If you give me some insight on where to start and whatto read,I'd be grateful!
All these reasons are really really true. And you have a great way of explaining things. Can you make a video on how to master anatomy for radiology residents and how to approach routine CT and MRI scans? Great work. Keep it up.
Dr. Gaur, hopefully you still read your comments. I'm interested in radiology or perhaps radiography, and this seems very overwhelming to me. Specifically when you listed off all the things you pride yourself on, like the segments of the intracranial carotid artery, and the 5 most important anatomical structures in an MRI of the knee. I'm only a senior in high school so I have years and years to add to my knowledge of anatomy (which currently is about as strong as you'd expect someones who's 6 weeks deep in a high school anatomy class to be). With this being said, my question is when did you truly become confident in your understanding of the human anatomy? At what point did you feel confident in yourself as a radiologist? Thanks in advance Dr. Gaur.
Hey Jack, thats a great question. Certainly it takes a long time to retain all the immense knowledge of the anatomy of the human body. Also, medicine is a practice. This means we get good at things we see every day and the information for things that are uncommon becomes less available. I definitely have to review anatomy and articles from time to time to deal with situations that are less common. Re. to your question, I felt confident as a diagnostic radiologist about 5 years post medical school and I felt confident about my IR skills about 6 months after starting IR fellowship. I feel good about my job now and I know I can cover about 90% of what i see. When I have questions, I have access to a senior IR with 15 yrs exp and i have colleagues for consult as well. There are also other specialities whom I can consult with if I have questions. So I am never alone. hope that helps. sg
Can I ask something? If you are done with fellowship and you are already an interventional radiologist, do you still do diagnostic radiology? Or you are focused on interventional radiology only?
great video. how long did it take for you to see the money you were making? people often talk ‘bout the money, but rarely talk about how long it takes B4 they see it.
Yes ultrasound could have been used. The air in the collection would create artifacts making access challenging. Ct was used because it was more definitive. I have a great liver abscess case (w US) maybe I will show it
thanks Sarel...... would sure love to see that particular case......particularly if you would add a minute or two more of video exploring the details..... ;-) thanks again.
Great video! Couple questions. 1. How are you guys paid? Is it per each image read or hourly or maybe a combination of both? 2. How is the starting salary as compared to what you make 4-5 years later?
its a combination. some teleradiology practices pay by the study, eg $ xx / CT scan. there are employee models and private practice partnerships. employee salary stays the same over time with small up adjustments. if you're in a private practice, can expect a large jump when make partner. best, sg
Hi, myself IMG with step 1- 255, step 2 CS first attempt, step 2 CK yet to take and currently pursuing my radiology residency at home country and wish to practice in USA..... as radiology is a competitive branch, what are my chances to get into a residency programs with my credentials and can I practice in USA with just fellowships like VIR or residency a must?? And is the alternate pathway for IMG radiologists still open??
Love your content im 14 and hope to be a radiologist anything youd reccomend i study in my free time My dad is a plastic surgeon and said i should do chemistyr biology physics on khansacademy ect maybe a video on to help prepare for a radiologist career for some younger people so they can be prepared and ahead of the competition ^_^ Keep up the great content
Hi sir.I'm from India.Ur videos are quite interesting. Can u tell how much radiologist earn per month if he works from home(by reading scans and films). Thanks in advance.
one of the leading teleradiology outfits pays about 30 / mth pretax 1099 income for week on, week off nighttime work, without benefits like health insurance or disability. best, sg
Im a CT tech at a primary stroke center. The rads I work with will say otherwise. So many exams leaving IR with Ct dose going. down. Smart machines even make it more kid friendly. I disagree with children an us procedure make is obsolete. I abhore scanning kids unless its ruq pain and even then its limited.

Liver abscesses are usually drained with pigtail caths under usg guidance.........couldn't the same be done for the above patient??
