I'm new to your channel. I Googled this perfume because my 91yr old grandmother just gave me her bottle like 2 hours ago. Your vid came up. She said she doesn't go out anymore and this was her go to scent for weddings and special church events. She had the 50ml EDP version. It's half way through. I knew her to wear it for years. Ever since I was about 12yrs old. I'm 37 now. I couldn't stop sniffing the cap because I could see every outfit she wore while wearing this perfume. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! ❤ Thank you for your detailed review. It was a good watch.

I think that joy smells like nature in the tropics, you know it's hot humid and lots of life abundant green, with all that is an underlying rot, the overripe decay of vegetation with the warm waft of heavy fragrance, it is actually why I like joy, walking through the flower market in Thailand, with all the beauty cut at the moment of perfection is still just dead vegetation. I can't say it is like a funeral parlor becasue that is a dry stale smell, the tropics is hot humid green rotten and addictive. It makes that floral smell a relief.
Seeing these iconic fragrances cheapened and driven out of existence is like watching the burning of the Library of Alexandria and being powerless to stop it. This is awful 😭😥
I love this perfume so much the fact that it is gone makes me so sad, this is honestly my benchmark of what I like. This heavy dense himid heavy floral fragrance. I will always associate this with my mother and growing up in Thailand it was my mother's special occasion fragrance. ❤️ I have one edp that will forever stay in my collection and I wear the edt.
Hey, I live in Thailand too and I also have strong impression of this scent (I used it when I was young). Lately I bought Boucheron's Quatre en Bleu Eau de Parfum because it smells closest to Joy, but I found that the heart and the base scents are different. Joy has deeper aroma. I like it so much.
I love your reviews, Dacob. So interesting and mind opening. I own the eau the parfum, Joy from Patou, and Tuberose gardenia from Estée Lauder. I sprayed each one on a wrist to compare. Joy is a real beast and tuberose gardenia has a comparable smell, but much softer. I like them both a lot. They are both very beautiful parfums. In Europe Joy is still available on a lot of webshops.
@@vivianeduerinck5914 I used to wear Joy when I was 19-20 (now 49). It was a beautiful blend on my skin and I really loved it. I wonder if I can find it again.
Something that appears to be Joy by Jean Patou is still available at a lot of retailers in the U.S., too. Too much to be remaining stock of something no longer made, and not expensive enough, although it's not cheap.
Thanks for the wonderful insight into Jasmine. My childhood bedroom had star jasmine around the window of my bedroom, so I love the smell it reminds me of my childhood!
That was a gripping interpretation, Dacob! Thank you. I love Joy. I am fascinated by the difference between what you have said about men's interpretation and women's interpretation. As a woman, I am definitely reminded by Joy of the bodies of women who have meant the world to me--a best friend from my girlhood... my mother... and more. It is a woman who is self-contained. It can be scary, but it is everything. Yet Patou's Joy is being "censored," so to speak. A commentary on our times indeed.
thank you so much for honouring this legend. It is one of my favourite perfumes and recently it breaks my heart to see it at tk maxx and nobody buying it or paying any attention to it as they don't even know what theu are seeing. Where was the due outrage when Dior released that, ever so reproduceable, pink, bodyspray of the same name?
Well… what others do not see is just more treasure for us. Maybe you can stock up on Joy at Tj Maxx if its at a reasonable price now, before its gone forever… 💖🌅☀️

Loved this deep dive into jasmine as a note and this classic perfume. It is fascinating the often fine line between opposites: beautiful/ugly, attractive/repulsive smells, etc.. My favorite perfumes, works of art, and styles tend to have this tension. Joy might veer too far in the poop category for me but appreciate it nonetheless.
I’m picking a bottle up on Friday at a second hand store near where I live when they are open, the newer 1.7oz EDT for $20. Fun video, I’m really looking forward to smelling it especially after your review, and I’ll be happy to have it for its history. I’m thankful it’s likely less stanky on women, I don’t think I want a lot of stank.
Joy vintage pure parfum is a sensational real perfume experience... The animalistic side of the roses is intensified here and the eau de toilette the vintage one that came later called eau de joy shared this aspect... Incredible research and review Dacob. To me, indoles are heartbreakingly beautiful… much like the aroma of expensive leather. I love Jean Patou JOY, especially in warm weather where the indoles smell very sexy and I feel an effortless confidence.
I went to visit my parents this weekend for my sister's birthday, and my mom told me she had a bottle of Joy from the late 70's early 80's. It was only 10%, but I eagerly got to check it out and put it on, and it surprised me so much! It was in a splash bottle, and original box. Painfully beautiful. I didn't get those indoles at all, and maybe it was from it being so old, or the low concentration. But I very much thought it was so surprising! Does not smell old AT ALL. My mom also had a tiny bottle of L’Air du Temps by Nina Ricci from the 80's which I had great memories of from her wearing being a kid in the 80's in LA. haha. She gave it to me, and I've been smelling it since. It's so lovely, breezy, warm, and comforting to me. I'd love to hear what you think of vintage L’Air du Temps!

I hate Joy perfume. Chanel N05 is much better and is the perfect balance of jasmine and rose.
I didn't know that a wood 🪵 🪓 chopper gentleman was a perfumist
I wore Joy during my first trip to the USA in 1994. The scent always reminds me of such a happy time in my life. Very sad it has been discontinued.
I love how perfumes anchor us to specific times in our lives… times and memories 🥰🥰💖💖💖🌈🌈🌈🌅
