Semi-auto malfunctions are generally magazine related. There is a “sure cycle” kit available to address the recoil springs. I have a BAR in 30/06 which is older. Functions great.
Just bought 1969 bar just did complete tear down clean I doubt it had a box ammo down the pipe great accuracy 60 rounds no jams very happy love browning
Les 1ère Bar Browning fabriqué en Belgique à herstal sont terrible de précision et de fonctionnement années 70 ,J’en possède 2 que je me séparera que en montant au ciel😊😊😊
I have the same gun....if I run the mag with 3 in it good to go....put 4 in the mag and the last shot hangs EVERY time....if you put the clip up next to another caliber you’ll see why...nothing wrong with the gun just run 3 in the mag instead of 4.....my 270 280 and 7-08 don’t have this issue and they are all BAR....something about how the magazine is designed prevents correct feeding with 4 rounds...all my others run 4 rounds in the mag flawlessly....hope this sheds some light
David----I bought one of these with gold inlay....made in Belgium 30-06.......it was a beauty...sold it on my honeymoon in 85....needed the cash....wish I still had it....enjoy it buddy
Never ever sell stuff for a woman. Woman come and go, but beautful cars, homes, and firearms are with you for life, and for the lifetimes in some instances of next generation aswell.
I have a BAR in 30.06. Mine so s about 15 years old. The bolt hangs up about 1/2 way - not when shot, but just working the action. Only about 30 rounds have been fired thru this gun. I’m in Central Louisiana, and will be driving about 90 mile tomorrow to the only Louisiana Browning gunsmith, Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop Louisiana. I will update this comment once I get the rifle back with the diagnosis.
I had a 243 that was made in the early 90's. I was amazed at the accuracy! 85g sierra BTHPs is what I loaded for it and it would shoot a consistent in. group, when I did my part. Why did I get rid of that rifle?!? I don't remember it ever having any function issues. Hope you get yours ironed out!
Definitely take the gas regulator off and clean the piston that’s inside the gas block as well as the inside of the gas block. Next I would buy a new leaf spring for the magazine and or a new magazine. Last as you also mentioned in your video replace the action spring and make sure recoil buffer isn’t cracked. I really think that combination of things will solve your feeding issues.
David, my first impressions of the rifle at 36 years old, it looks like it's in good condition from what I could see in the video. The wood and bluing didn't show any obvious signs of "Oops" moments. As far as the operational aspects go, gas systems can get fouled and springs age as you mentioned in your review. I'd find a gunsmith who's familiar with the BAR design and ask him to give it a cleaning and a once over. Old guns, like old cars, need a little TLC now and again. That rifle looks like a great piece, especially in the mild 308 chambering. Yes Sir, a little TLC and that rifle will be running like a charm.
I have one in 270 win with boss. I reload with 130 gr and it shoots with great accuracy. You may want to send it to Arts gun shop,he did work for Browning a long time ago. He knows a lot about the bar.
My dad bought one in .270, he loved it but sadly he rested it on a tree, the action side against it, it broke something and it wouldn’t cycle, i inherited my grandpas chambered in .243, killed 2 deer with it really enjoy it, it has even less recoil than the .308, fun gun to shoot
keep the piston cleaned, and do not oil. put masking tape on the slot, where the bolt handle slides, to see if action [ bolt ] travels all the way to the rear. also, perhaps a different load
Take it apart and clean it. It will work good after that. I polish the throat area were the bullet sits in the barrel. Make sure the gas system is cleaned and degreased. The bolt needs grease or oil. Theres a fpd file or something you could download on the internet to tell you what parts need polishing. I just got a 270 bar last week and its apart for cleaning and degreasing.
Hi David, I enjoy all your videos. I have a Grade 2, with the scrolling. 30 -06. Model 70 made in Belgium. It looks like its brand new. I have a luepold scope and nice sling. I have proper documentation where I bought it. I might consider selling but would like to know more about the age & value of the gun. Any idea where i should begin? Thank you friend, stay safe
Well done ,, bar man myself ,,,, that gas system is important ,,, clean clean ,,, but I think yes you have it covered to bad you do not have a part 2 if you solved the issue
Total blasphemy. But, could you free float it, add a pistol grip, and make higher capacity magazines? Not asking you to. It would be interesting though. Edit: Saw the gas system. No free floating that.
I guess I don’t understand your comment, blasphemy as in that this rifle should never have any problems? Any solid semi auto hunting rifle is going to develop issues when it gets old enough. Typically fixable without much effort. I’m sure this one is. If I need higher capacity in 308 I would just simply move to a different platform. I view this rifle the same as I would a bolt gun. If the first couple shots don’t get it, I don’t deserve to get the deer.
@@drdrake63 No no. The blasphemy part is turning this classic design into a "tactical assault weapon". The reasons to have "high capacity magazines" is for fun, freedom, protection, war, and slaughtering invasive wild boar.

Thanks for the video. I learn more from your channel about firearms than all my other channels combined. Take care my friend.
Thomas Osteen Probably the nicest thing anybody’s ever said about my channel. I really appreciate you watching and thank you for the kind words
I agree w Thomas. Your vids are entertaining, instructive & helpful.

No need for a gunsmith, I have the tools and know how to do that work myself. I will of course provide a video showing the work
@@drdrake63 - Looking forward to it.
I beilive I have a discontinued 270wsm BAR . Would you have any info on why it would be discontinued and what a value in today's market would be ?
I just got this rifle fixed up and am getting it ready for a elk hunt this year and was curious to see how it shot and this video was amazing

Obtain the Gun Blue Book and check out serialization to find out year of manufacture.
With my dealing and owning many bars it is usually the mag, they can be fixed.
Did some gun trading to acquire a 1977 BAR 7MM REM. MAG.
GUN IS UNFIRED mint new condition.

Antonio Fiammelli There is a part two. Keep looking!
David Drake could not find a video of you finding the problem of your 308
Would be nice to see an accuracy test, off a rest, with a good scope, at 100 yds. offhand at 25 yds with iron sights tells nothing
Disagree. It shows how I shoot it offhand. Which is how I hunt
Beautiful rifle! I've always considered buying one but never got around to it.
Well Roger go get one, hell its only money.
Is it a Browing bar model 1
Well. Did you ever figure out the problem?
Dissasemble check and Kleen gas system. Check the gas port in the barrel for obstructions.
Thanks
core lokt is a go to
Mine does the same as of last year..
What did you do??
So what was the problem what you do too fix it
New mainspring
Got 1 in 7mmRM

Yeah I have quite a few toys for my so-called tactical needs. I agree that taking the Bubba approach with a classic fire arm is blasphemous LOL
If you want a high capacity Bar buy a FN FNAR it's a bar with a detachable 20 round mag
