  • Blowers are a big thing if you want to build a solid fuel forge or even a forced air gas forge. Here are three great options.

I've been using hair driers from Goodwill for my coal forge for years. They work great, and I get about 9 months out of them before they turn their toes up.

Good info here. I personally use an old leaf blower.
I suggest a future episode about controlling airflow.
I'm using a dimmer switch wired into the cord. This provides great control of my air. It's not the ideal solution because it will eventually burn out the leaf blower. Those things are not built to be throttled down like that. As for the dimmer switch itself, you need to know what you're doing. Dimmer switches have to be wired correctly with the hot, neutral, and ground in the correct places.
The better option is a T-valve. Just blow that excess air into the shop. I will likely move to a T-valve at some point.

I wonder if the blowup bed motors would work too? Those are free if the bed gets a non-repairable hole

I have been getting those induction blows from a HVAC company.
When they replace A furnace or water heater the blowers are not always bad and they tend to give them away or sell them for a few bucks. I am also converting one to have a hand crank for a portable forge design I am working on.

I got bellows. There a pain in the bum but they do blow air ..... in puffs. But I have these because where I work I got no electrickery. Is a hand crank blower better?

I am just starting out and using a heat gun for paint stripping because I had a cheap one, it's got a metal business end, and it seemed like it's designed to run longer than a hair dryer. Why is the heat a problem?

What are the fanCFM guild line parameters ? What are you using on your Ribbon burners? And solid fuel ones?

My shop's got no electricity. I'm gonna probably make chinese box bellows out of wood for my forge.

I'm making a ribbon burner forge for my first gas forge to supplement my charcoal forge. Is there an amount of air pressure that is to much (or to little)? I was thinking of using a 2 inch ducted fan that runs at about 2500 rpm I have laying around.

Its a hard question and literally the best option is to try it out.

Does a 12v auto heater squirrel cage fall into "doable" range?
I am off grid with limited solar power.
I've been using it but I can't tell which is the worse my problems: problems with air flow or inexperience in fire management.
