  • In this video, go over the importance of using quality OE parts on these German transmissions. This land rover had an aftermarket pan and when an OE pan was installed made a big difference. When working on these transmissions only OE should be used

I posted a link to this video on the X5 forum. Thanks for the informative video. A lot of the new X5 owners are DIYer because the price of a X5 has dropped to the point that a kid flipping burgers can buy a used X5. They can buy a X5, but they can't afford to bring the SAV in for service.

Just changed the fluid and filter on my 200k mile 4L30e for a similar issue. The filter had about 50k miles on it, but it was whining hard when cold and shifting sloppy. New fluid and filter its quiet and happy.
The Sonnax Zip Kit in our 6HP28 (BMW X5) made a big difference along with tube seals. The shudder came back briefly, but the computer seemed to be able to tune it out finally.

here is the issue. 2-1 downshift SLAM/JERK every time when coming to full stop & 3-4 shift flare that goes into failsafe. gear monitoring code also. I have to drive with my scanner to reset it on the fly. it happens alot but not every single time. Here is whats been done:
rebuilt transmission with new clutches, tc, solenoids, bushing kit, sonnex valve body kit with seperator plate (A053)
when i got it back, same issue.. then i purchased a used valve body with mechatronics & solenoids... same results..
dme & tcm have been updated with no change..reset adapt with no change..no change if hot or cold..

Under previouse ownerships someone replaced 6-7 original bolts holding pan-filter. I am conceraned that threads there are stripped. Can you advise on two things: what methode d o you recomend on restoring stripped threads in aluminum body? What is your opinio on using steel/stainless steel helicoils to restore threads? Hi Gary,
Thanks for the info! Great videos!
Does anyone know, why at 32°F (Freezing), my Jaguar VDP ZF6HP26 transmission stops working, until warm? It freezes! In below zero temps, I can't get it to move; eventually, to slips on down hill, but never warms. It finally just quit all to gather, like I burned it out, with burn smell! Hot or cold, no shift, goes nowhere!
Why would the fluid freeze? I changed fluid,, but it will not take much. The second stage fill never happens. Maybe I did it wrong? Maybe the pump burned? Clutches gome?
I don't know the codes, maybe a 700? They were saved somewhere, and cleared.
    Any help out there?
