    thank you so much for this video! I am applying for masters right now, not phd, but I have the same problem because all of my practical experience is in the genetics/molecular biology labs and I am looking to do neuroscience. I was really worried it will tank my chances haha

    Loved this video, this uncertainty of having a complete different background to what I would like to do a phd has been bugging me forever! I literally wrote notes of what you said.

    Hey Hira! I love your videos so much. You've helped me gain clarity about my application. My past research experience has been in plant biotechnology but my research interest lies in oncology. Should I look for internships/ research projects in cancer research before applying for a phd? I'm worried since plant biotech and oncology seems like a 180° shift.

      Hey Tanya! Thanks so much for your comments, so happy to hear my videos helped. I don't think it's necessary to do internships before applying, give it a go and see how it goes. I don't think they're very far off fields, my supervisor is a yeast geneticist doing cancer research!

      @tanyabanerjee2681 Hey Tanya, that's exactly the same difficulties I am facing, as my interests also lie in cancer biology, but I have experience in microbiology and microbial genomics

    I have a BS in Biochemistry and all my research and publications are related to that. But i did an MS in Management and i want to pursue that field in PhD. Still confuse about how to explain that...

    • @oxford_phd
      @oxford_phd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you already have an MS in the field so just base it on that! Maybe you could say a little bit about why you chose to pursue this field after Biochem, but this will all be a small part of your PS. Focus the rest on skills and interests! :)

    is it good idea to go for PhD right after bachelors especially when there is no requirement to do a research project for your bachelors ?

    Can conducting our research in final year and supervised by 2 supervisors be included as a Research Experience? or it has to be a professional research experience other than what I mentioned previously?

    • @oxford_phd
      @oxford_phd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Budianto, yes for sure! That is a key research experience to mention and is usually the only research experience many students have so make sure you highlight it in detail, the skills you learned, the challenges you faced etc. Any research experience, big or small, can be mentioned. It's not about duration but rather what you learned. If you haven't already, this video gives details on how to talk about research experience in a detailed and effective way:

    Hey Hira! I had an in formal zoom meeting with a potential phd supervisor of Cardiff University and I think it went pretty well. He liked my undergraduate research project. The research project also resulted in the publication of the research paper. He also asked me to apply for the phd and submit the application form. The issue is that I've a study gap of around 5 years but I was working for an NGO during that time.
    An idea how to cover up this issue in my Personal Statement.

    • @oxford_phd
      @oxford_phd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maddy gaps are not a big deal for PhD admissions. You could explain what you were doing, what the motivation behind it was, and highlight some skills you gained from the experience, which I'm sure were many!

      @@oxford_phd hi Hira, that’s okay… I’m really struggling with my grabber which I think it’s an important part of the essay. I keep looking back at why I want to do psychology and I overthink it so much. Even though the grabber should be at least a couple of sentences 😔 been watching your videos to really tap into myself and think of something that will convince the faculty why I’ve come back to psychology.
