Fantastic video John. Seems a shame a demo a place that's such a marvel of engineering for it's time.

Thanks, John. Very interesting subject. That boiler was huge! The boiler walls had been removed before this. Because they contained asbestos?

And it is just one of the six boilers. The boiler walls were still there when they started demolition, I just wasn't there to film on the days they took them down (probably using the regular excavators). On this clip, you can see the blue-ish steel boilerplate in the middle, below where the high reach is working: th-cam.com/video/rGuhryFGSXU/w-d-xo.html

Thanks, John. Now that you point them out I remember seeing it, but didn't recognize what it was.

Are them pipes sections. Steel or copper 🤔

      Steel usually...

Yes, steel, copper would be too soft I think and there would be a problem joining copper tubes to the steel framework.

Is it just me , but does that shear appear to be too small for a lot of that structure?

They are unable to use large shears at the end of the long boom because of the weight. They do use much larger shears on the excavators with short booms, and they can cut the heavy steel: th-cam.com/video/qBihVjgfht4/w-d-xo.html
