    ATTENTION ALL independent contractors, 1099 workers, gig workers, sole proprietors, or ANYone else who files a Schedule C.....this video is for you! Hannah Smolinski shares EVERYTHING you need to know about PPP for these types of business owners. How can you get a PPP loan (1st or 2nd), calculate the right amount, use the money correctly, and apply for forgiveness!???
    Make sure you get your copy of the spreadsheet I have prepared for you, along with other PPP resources, here: claracfo.podia.com/
    Since you are a sole proprietor (self-employed), your rules for PPP forgiveness are different from other businesses that pay all their employees through payroll. You are going to want to pay attention to these different rules so you can maximize your forgiveness amount and be legal!
    Your biggest source of information for this calculation will be your 1040 Schedule C. Make sure you either have your filed 2019 or a draft 2020 Schedule C. This is used to calculate your loan amount AND your forgiveness, so it’s really important.
    Make sure you watch the Non-payroll costs video if you want to include any of those when you spend your PPP: • 7 Non-Payroll Costs al...

    Hi Hannah! First of all I want to say your videos about the PPP loan have been very helpful for me. Thank you!
    I have a question, I submitted an application for the first draw and I used a draft of my schedule C and I used line 31. My accountant recommended that I contribute more to my SEP IRA to lower my tax bill... now when I finalize my taxes my schedule C will change from the draft I submitted but it won’t materially change the number for line 31 and the calculation will be the same. Is that ok?

What is best practice for paying a portion of my rent & utilities from PPP, and can that 40% be used for business subscriptions, marketing consulting or editing services? Love this explanation and thank you so much for the breakdown! The only thing I still can't seem to find info on is the "bank statements" part of record keeping. If making a transfer from your business bank account to your personal account, how do you actually distinguish that it is a PPP owners compensation replacement transfer and not an income transfer from actual business sales? If you choose a certain day of the week and a specific amount, and make that same transfer over 10 weeks, would that be enough to distinguish it from other current business "income" transfers? If that makes sense...

    Thanks so very much for your videos! Extremely helpful and informative! I know that the PPP Loans approved in 2020 had another requirement that owners couldn’t pay themselves more than 2.5 months of their 2019 net income. I can’t seem to find if this is a requirement for the loans approved in 2020, also. I can only find that the cap is $100k, like you mentioned. Thank you so much!!

    • @ClaraCFO
      @ClaraCFO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that 2.5 months limit is the same. If you use 2020 schedule C to apply for the loan, then you would use 2020 schedule C to calculate the owners comp too.

    Great video. My understanding is that one may now be eligible for the loan based on line 7 of schedule C (Gross Income) and not Line 31 (Net Income). Many last year did not qualify because they had a loss (line 31), but with the new apparent calculation many may now qualify. Also, those that received funds in round 1 and have not received forgiveness may go back and adjust based on line 7.

She wrote a payroll check to herself month 1, another payroll check to herself month 2 but still had the last half a month in her biz account toll now. Can she still utilize that half month as payroll cost? or did she need to use it 100% within 8 - 24 week period. Your insight is appreciated as always!

Our bank is saying even though we applied for the first round using our SS number they’re waiting for guidance from the SBA on how to proceed for round 2. Is that normal? They said it’s not as simple as just applying again for the 2nd round using our SS number again. We’re concerned the money will run out while they’re waiting for their answers. Good morning. Question on the owner compensation replacement. If the loan was based on $2000/month average net profit and during the open period of 26 weeks you actually earned $1000 /month, can you augment that with a $1000 for that month from the PPPL2 to bring your net earned back to the average used to file for the loan or can you draw the full $2000 for that month?

    • @ClaraCFO
      @ClaraCFO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So in this case you got $5000? $2000 X 2.5? You can get $5000 as owners comp, regardless of what you ACTUALLY earned during the period.

    Hi Clara--Question--When applying for PPP round 2, when you are figuring out if you qualify having a quarter thats 25% less receipts in 2020 compared to 2019, do you have to add any unemployment you received in that quarter as well? I saw no place to add that in my application, but want to be sure. Thank you for your time.

    • @ClaraCFO
      @ClaraCFO  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, just include income from your business. Unemployment is personal income and not business income.

    Hi Hannah. I'm a sole proprietor. Recently, my PPP loan was deposited into my personal checking account since I do not have a business account. However, I have another personal checking account with a different bank. Can I transfer the funds to my second account to show that the funds were transferred as owner compensation? Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

    Question: since the stipulation says "..wages down 25% in any given quarter in 2020 versus 2019..." I wouldn't qualify because I started Schedule C qualifying work in October of 2019, right? I have no "wages from 2019" to compare 2020 wages to. Thanks.

    Hannah, Hello! I am a LYFT Driver. I received my PPP first draw. Although I was approved for draw #2 I did not approve it because I did not qualify under the terms for receiving it. I did not have a 25% reduction for ANY quarter in 2020 vs 2019. My question: I did not know they sent my 1st draw until today 5/7/21. The money was sent to my account on 4/14/21 ugh. They did not send me a notification that the money was sent. I opened a second PERSONAL account (NO business account). I have heard we can send the entire amount in one lump sum. I am not sure what to do at this point because I am now 3 weeks behind the 8 ball. Should I send to my other personal account in one lump sum or send for 8 weeks?? Do GIG workers need to worry about the 60% rule? I am hearing so many different ways to do this and I am confused BIG TIME??

    • @ClaraCFO

      Darryl, you need to cap earnings at 100,000. Then /12 and *2.5 = $20,833. If you have no employees, your loan will be $20,833.

      Yes - you have to USE PPP1 before getting PPP2, but you don't have to have it forgiven. So it must be at least 8 weeks between the two.

    Hello! Hope you read this 🥺
    We just received our ppp … unfortunately we don’t have a business account just a regular.
    I would hold the money till we create a business account but the problem with that is the timing. We’re trying to spend the money in 10weeks to receive full forgiveness. It takes 3 weeks to receive a LLC so should we wait or create a savings naming it “ppp payout”? By giving it a name wouldn’t that keep down confusion?

    I did not apply for the ppp loan/grant because it was confusing and I didn't know if I would qualify. I received a 1099 form for 2019. I was an independent contractor for DoorDash and a few other companies like it. I only realized yesterday that I possibly was eligible for ppp. Did I miss my window? Can I apply now?
    Would this affect my unemployment?

    • @cocospadoni7408
      @cocospadoni7408 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a new window specially for small businesses under 20 employees till March 9th. The aim is to help the smallest of businesses and for woman and poc owned to receive better access to funds. From my research you can’t get unemployment payments at the same time. I’m guessing just fill out our claim as the amount you’re getting with the ppp and it will flag as excessive earns for that week. Obviously not giving you legal/business advice but that’s my best guess.

      I used estimate on 1st try using line 31 with as little as 3,400 income. PPP offered so little ($756) so I never completed the signing of paperwork to receive the funds.
      Now my question is this:
      I applied as if first draw in April 2021 using line 7 (of my now totally completed and submitted taxes). Will PPP consider this as 1st draw since I never received $$ the 1st time I applied? Or will this be considered Draw #2?
      I couldn't/ didn't apply for what I would consider draw #2 because notices were out that it was too late...money exhausted...and again, how was I to know what Draw PPP Lender considered this 2nd time I tried and actually got $$ in bank?

    • @ClaraCFO

      When I say "closing the covered period" this just means the end date of your covered period. You don't declare the end of the covered period to anyone until you fill out your forgiveness application. The covered period can be a minimum of 8 weeks after receiving the funds and maximum of 24 weeks after receiving the funds.
