    One thing to note, on the play Mahomes got hurt the 'flick' was purely an attempt to get the defender to bite. Mahomes is past the los and he knew it. He has an uncanny ability to know exactly what it is and when he can use that flick play.

    It's worth noting, plays like at 16:33, are actually discussed by Mahomes with his receivers. You can see during training camp and the regular season how he will coach them if they 'don't settle down between the zones' or 'come back to the ball.' His leadership is amazing. You can also tell when he has someone who listens vs someone who doesn't. Prime examples were Robinson a couple seasons ago and MVS at times this season. Mahomes would seem to throw bad balls at times, but then you'd see him pointing and talking to his receiver like 'yeah, stop your route there, don't run into coverage' type thing. It was very evident the AFC championship game they lost to the Bengals. Their entire OT drive was full of it. Robinson's man blitzed, so Robinson just needed to find the soft spot and immediately turn for the ball. Instead he runs himself into coverage (and Mahomes ball ends up being like two yards behind him). Second time, Mahomes almost throws an interception because Robinson doesn't come back to Mahomes on his in breaking route and instead he rounds it off

    The genius of the play design at 17:30 is how the landmark for Toney to cut back off the motion, lines up exactly with Kelce. So effectively your big bodied TE acts as a kind of "screen" to hide the fact that Toney is cutting back to the outside. Not gonna be too many guys who can see through that while running at full speed to cross with the motion

    • @Jm-wt1fs
      @Jm-wt1fs ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep combined w the slot receiver being the exact spot where the corner passes off coverage to the safety so the safety ends up sucked inside, and the corner can’t even see that Toney turned around bc big ass Kelce was blocking him from view.

    People love to say Mahomes always has open receivers and doesn't throw into tight windows (I am looking at you PFF).Many of these plays show that the reason they are open is because the timing, anticipation of Mahomes and his ability to manipulate defenders opens them up. WR run through coverage and are open in small windows. Throwing to them in that window is the most important skill. Being late on the read and having to drive it between 2 defenders doesn't make you the better QB (looking at you again PFF).

    If you look and compare the last super bowl they won to this one, you can see how Mahomes has evolved as a quarterback. There is no "wasp play" in this one; he just methodically marched down the field by making smart decisions and executing with precision.

      Misleading since the receivers were ridiculously wide open on many of those completion’s.Jalen Hurts completion’s had a higher degree of difficulty. Mahomes also benefited from a defensive TD, the biggest punt return in Super Bowl history and a controversial holding call on the Eagles to set up a game winning field goal. He’s just as lucky as he is good
