Chris Jones is borderline unstoppable. I enjoyed watching him slide over to end on passing downs as he's quite nimble for that size. His battles with Creed Humphrey's in practice must be frightening 🧟

Imagine him lined up beside an above average DT. He’d rule! I’d bet almost no one outside KC can name another Chiefs DT.
This translates to many sports. When you have a sportsperson that is uniquely great, analysts become spectators and spectators become awestruck. Patrick Mahomes is on a level of his own. I have felt the same way watching Michael Jordan, Ayrton Senna, Roger Federer, and many others who took their sports craft to new heights..... Just wow!

That's what I love. After I got over the initial letdown of the last AFC Championship, I came to watch his analysis of Mahomes and it was just so good and in depth and gave credit where it was due and detracted where it was due. Just one of the best doing this for the popular audience.

On the last play you see the way #77 immediately sprints over to help up Mahomes on the sideline. Tells you all you need to know about how they feel about him in the building. Very gritty performance.

The way he moves in the pocket and then slings it off platform reminds me of 80s Elway. Not a chief fan, but he plays QB at such a high level, couple that with Andy Reids brain and you cant help but appreciate the contributions/evolutions to the game.
I am a Chiefs fan and have always said that Mahomes is Elway 2.0

@@joemulthauf I'm a Chiefs fan and Elway probably had a stronger more accurate arm. He threw a prettier bomb pass. Elway got drafted in baseball in the 2nd round. Mahomes in the 7th. Elway ran more and was a more physical runner. Elway was the master of the shovel pass and so is Mahomes. All that being said, I'm so glad we're finally paying the Broncos back for all those years they upset us at the end of so many games. I love Mahomes but no sense in denying how good Elway was as well. I'd take Mahomes over Elway of course.

Its like a broken record on how open Travis Kelce is in the middle of the field constantly. All his routes are very similar in every game. Even when Alex Smith was the QB, Kelce was catching passes left and right.
It doesn't make any sense does it?
Feels like a bit of scheme and a bit of kelces own understanding of coverage. There are games where kelce becomes a non factor but it always frees someone else up.
@spe sto On the Kelce podcast, Travis Kelce says a lot of how he gets open is due to scheme. Reid will design and call plays to get Travis Kelce the ideal matchups (like one on ones). Obviously Kelce improvises at times as well (such as his TD catch in this game
Kelce talked about it briefly on his podcast. It wasn't planned. He talks about wishing he had lateraled to Noah Gray. He thinks he would have scored.

Love the breakdown. And I totally agree, Mahomes has an uncanny ability to be just fast enough, again and again. It’s like he preserves his speed through out the game by not using more than just enough on each scramble.
I can't find the tweet thread but one of his strength and training coaches did an explanation on how Mahomes by the numbers, contrary to how funny it may look, has elite acceleration in short spaces and it's something they really work on with specific exercises. It was actually really interesting. And a good reminder how often the things we think look accidental or uncanny actually have a lot of training hours behind them.

It made you feel quite sorry to see how conservative / simple the playcalling had to get with injured Mahomes end of Q3,
because 4 of your first 5 WR were out (84 didn't dress up, illness) and your RB/TE were more or less playing WR, while being banged up.
1st down: Run, 2nd down: Screen, 3rd down: Shot (or a quick prayer that 15 safes them here).

IMHO, Mahomes throws the football as if it were a baseball. That's how he competes passes from almost any position, especially cross-body throws. It's like he's playing shortstop!! Don't know what to call it ... but it is really fun to watch!

the 4th and 1 play is designed to go to kelce, capitalizing off the defense’s aggressiveness and the chiefs’ tendency to throw it short on sprint right plays like that one. there’s footage of them talking about it during the timeout before the play, and mahomes is smiling because he knows it’s going to work.

At the 14:20 mark I feel like the safety sees Mahomes step up and might think Mahomes is going to run to the open space for a good size gain. He was injured, but clearly looked mobile enough that maybe they thought he was capable of running.
Love this content. It's a shame that the big networks don't have this kind of content on a week to week basis. You may get a minute of scheme breakdown and then the other 99% is the talking heads squawking at one another. Next level stuff!!!
I’ll never understand how tech could only win 6 games a year with him at qb. I was there to see every game, and it was so infuriating because he held on to the ball forever for something to happen. High risk, high reward.

saw a breakdown on that a while ago, basically, our defense was soo bad, he HAD to get a big play every time, because not scoring on any given drive usually meant we lost the game. It was one of the key things Andy had to coach out of him early on. Its why defenses focus so much on taking away the big play the last few years. And why his conversion to taking the under throws was key to continue winning after the early success. So many thought that he was a one trick, big play pony and he couldn't be that good in the repetative short game. Turns out they were wrong.

He's elite from the pocket as well, he's just ungodly outside of it! Plus Chris Jones and the Chiefs D stepped up big time. That rarely happens for the Chiefs.
They did benefit from inconsistent officiating (I'm a Chiefs fan), but I think the more important part was that the Chiefs defense stepped up big time. Chris Jones in particular was a force.

On the TD to MVS on 3rd and 10 where the safety bit on #24's route to the inside, maybe the thinking is that they can cover #11, but #24 is going to win that crosser against 1-on-1 all day long. Maybe Moore was seen as the bigger threat, there.

That Toney TD “no catch” looked like a catch, when zooming in on replay doesn’t ever look like it touched the ground. Close but feel it was a catch… regardless, his back was to the line judge. How is he able to determine it wasn’t a catch? Probably should have been called a TD and then let the scoring play be reviewed.
Eventually they got around to showing an angle that showed the ball hit the ground but they took their sweet time before showing it.
He also had it then crossed the goal then fumbled it. To me that’s a td once he crossed the goal line but guess not

Downplayed his injury (unlike Hurts), throwing to absolute dustballs and still gets it done. The best I've ever seen.
All injuries and players are different. I don't think Hurts hyped up his injury. Mahomes definitely has some of the Wolverine healing factor
Hurts didn’t exaggerate his injury. It was week 16 and the eagles were basically locked in to the 1 seed. There was no need to play him.
Nothing against Hurts here. He did not hype up or exaggerate per say but certainly acknowledged that he was not 100% whereas Mahomes said he'd be ready to go. It was a Pro-Mahomes comment not an Anti-Hurts.

Ya really this last play people are blaming the bengals loss on the “missed” holding call and the “shit” call on the shove on patty. These are normal plays that are always called like this but nobody cared till it worked in the chiefs favor
And all of the "they never call holding on the Chiefs" ers forget that the Chiefs had a touchdown in the first quarter wiped off because of a holding penalty.
There was no holding on mahomes scramble. Nobody who played a down in the trenches would say otherwise.

Mahomes has done this before with the fumble. When he needs to get the ball out asap he doesn’t seem to get the right grip first. It happened on a goal line play with hardman. He didn’t grip it right and he missed a wide open hardman for a td. Oh well something to work on

It's important to remember the context. Shanahan was in his first year as HC for San Fran. Mahomes was a project QB and many scouting department thought he'd go at the end of the first round, maybe even early 2nd. For most he was not considered a sure-fire prospect, in fact quite the contrary as most felt he was one of the riskier players coming out. I'd also argue without the grooming he received from Andy Reid and Alex Smith that first year he wouldn't be the player he is today.
Would he have worked out for a HC like Shanahan who was green as hell at the time? Would he be the same player? Would he be even better? Who's to say. But it took a seasoned HC/GM combination like Reid and Dorsey to make that trade and move up to take him WAY ahead of where he was projected to go, because if it didn't work out they would be ok because of their credibility with the Chiefs organization and fans as well as their safety net in Alex Smith. To risk the #2 or #3 pick on a guy and take that swing in your first year, and then if he didn't work out? Whether you like it or not Shanahan's ass is on the line in that scenario, and only the most established HCs/GMs could make that kind of investment. Sean Peyton and the Saints make sense. If he would've gotten Mahomes at #11 he'd still be coaching, no doubt in my mind.
@@bdrip1k Yeah, they picked third overall and chose Solomon Thomas instead. Not as bad of a faux pas as trading up to #2 in order to draft Mitch Trubinsky like the Bears did but bad. Let's also remember that Cleveland had the first pick overall and, although Myles Garrett has turned out to be a pretty good pick, he is not Patrick Mahomes.

If your team, any team can’t score more points than the refs mistakes, then you’re going to lose some games because of the refs. Solution? Outscore the officiating.
So tired of hearing about officiating. Its the new NFL. Bengals had 2 chances late in game to take lead. They ultimately made the costly blatant penalty.
Enjoyed this. Was rooting for the Bengals, but had to grudgingly admit that Mahomes showed up- even with the bum wheel. He did enough to win them the game. And you know, against Joe Brrrr and these Bengals, that's no mean feat. I can't help but wonder though, if Joe Burrow doesn't get sacked so frequently in the opening drives if this game doesn't end differently.
Fast enough for Bengals but unless he's fully healthy he's not going to be fast enough for that Eagles pass rush and that Eagles secondary is going to let those gunslinger plays not result in a couple picks. CGJ and Slay will be sitting all over routes waiting for those passes while Reddick and Sweat are breathing down Mahones neck and when he goes to step up in pocket he will be met by guys like Hargreaves, Cox and Suh.

This is what everyone said the last 7 games the chiefs played. I watched it first hand. "Those Chiefs can't beat the 49ers, they have too many weaknesses". "They can't beat the so and so's, too many injuries". "They lost Tyreek, they arent going to make the playoffs". "They have 6 rookie starters on defense, they are lucky to be winning games". The Bengals and Bills have such better rosters.... duh duh duh duh. It's dumb. Just watch the games. The Chiefs are better, it's clear as day every game.
Mahomes has faced comparable defenses, including putting up 44 on this year's 49ers.

Too much commentary where you are not adding anything except, "lostsa moving parts, nice break, there's a few things here, availability-wise," but you don't let the film do the explaining...the talking..... while you are....your comments should align with the film being shown otherwise, one of you is irrelevant. Mahomes is fantastic yet somehow overrated. He's not better than the other top qbs in the game, his receivers are just wide open more frequently. Andy Reid must be an absolute freak.

Overrated? You have no clue. Mahomes makes plays and big time throws that only he can make when his receivers aren't open. He still has to make the right read and get the ball there. Alex Smith was in the same offense and only produced 1 playoff win. So it's just not about the receivers getting open.

@@patrickarrington3871 you're making my point. Alex Smith, who was basically awful his entire career, had a fantastic season under Reid in his final year. A mediocre QB did well in that system. Mahomes is a great QB, but what's separating him from the others is not his talent, it's the players and scheming. People have made off-balance, play-extending acts for years, be it Stafford or Rodgers, nowadays even Herbert and Allen, but people just focus on Mahomes' more because he's the NFL's love child, in all honesty probably due to his biracial background in a time that the NFL is trying to water down racism rumours. For God's sake, go watch old Aaron Rodgers film and tell me how Mahomes is better than that.
