Ending with her asking her brother to come home, taking care of him, and even advising him with an iron fist, being as ruthless as any man. Tom Hagen was my favorite in the movie...he almost always had the answers, and he knew the Don’s business better than anyone else, also having the foresight to tell what would result from each action they discussed taking. Al seems like a really nice guy. Brando was 47 during filming.
Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are my two all time favorite actors. They both have made incredible films over the years. De Niro is rather shy on late night television shows, but Pacino is really very funny. Both are entertaining and I love seeing them together.
I used to love De Niro until he started commenting on politics - namely Trump administration. No matter if you like or dislike a sitting president, it shows no class to get up in front of a large audience and say FU. No class at all.
Al Pacino has a nice head of hair, he’s aged so well. Robert Deniro is still so attractive, humble man . All these actors are genuinely brilliant. Love them all!
I totally agree with you, Al still looks young he didn't look like he was 77 there looked younger. I was watching a recent interview of him, he can still pull off a 70 year old. www.ovationtv.com/watch/inside-the-actors-studio/inside-the-actors-studio-al-pacino/
He looks younger than he would otherwise, but all that plastic surgery has only taken him further away from the naturally very handsome man that he was imvho.
I don’t know if it’s only me but I always feel like true legends don’t feel how extraordinary they are. It’s like they’ve done something normal. So down to earth, Love it!! ❤️
Yes he did. He played Sonny perfect performance, if you read the book, James Cann played Sonny just like Sonny was in the book. He is a great actor, & he seems like such a nice guy. Funny too. All the very best to you Mr. Cann. PS - I loved your show Vegas.
In my opinion James Cann with the Sonny role was stealing the movie and then they had him killed. Caan played the perfect hot headed Sicilian. I was heartbroken watching the movie in a packed house at a Lowe's theater back in 1972, I was 11 years old. As much as I still love the Godfather it pains me to watch that scene. Sonny being the Godfather would have been Michael on steroids.
@@62rockin I feel you but truthfully sonny wasn’t smart enough to run the family. He definitely was tough enough and had the mental fortitude but he was too hot headed. He would have struggled in the political landscape. Him and Michael as a pairing would have been elite! If they were able to coexistent. Michael as the brains and face and sonny as the enforcer and street general. But i think the it was written so well for sonny to die.
Happy 45th Anniversary! This totally made my day. Thanks for the full interview. The Godfather(especially part 1 and 2) are the greatest American movies of all time, no question about it. Nino Rota's score, Gordon Willis's phenomenal camera work, the cast, acting, directing, editing, etc... you can't wrap your head around it. So, magnificent and it'll be like that forever! RIP to Marlon Brando and same goes to those who were in the movie.

Obviously to say someone is about to die...That's the way they were used in the Godfather movies. And given their ages, is quite likely. A bit of dark humor, I guess.
This group together deserved a better interviewer and better questions..... Once in a lifetime opportunity having them all together and it wasn't made the most of. We need another reunion for the 50th anniversary.
I agree but have little hope. Hollywood and quality film making is dead. JOURNALISM and the craft of conducting a REAL QUALITY INTERVIEW died A LONG TIME AGO too. I think USA Today and CNN killed it in the early 1990s. Morning Shows are toxic too.
Incredible I was one of the audience that got to see this amazing story with iconic actors. I’ve become rich with their artistic genius and by being entertained by actors that took me into their masterful portrayals and made me forget they were actors. The Godfather is a story for the ages.
Ivaylo Iontchev the best actors in that room are actually De Niro and Duvall, I don't think apart from Dog Day Afternoon, Pacino was ever that good again, Robert Duvall and Robert De Niro, were that good again several occasions.
I agree with Michael Rose. Al Pacino is a great actor, but DeNiro is in an entirely different league. Movies like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Once Upon a Time in America are just immaculate. DeNiro's acting has a depth to it, that Pacino simply lacks.
@@voicemyopinion7885 He understands that...{nods in the direction of the car with a sad, half-smile thinking "Ya coulda been one of the biggest gangsters in NYC sally, but you tried to sell us out. ALL of these actors were wonderful in the God Father movies. They are all Legends. Robert DeNero was so excellent as the young Vido.Al Pacino as Michael, & Robert Devaul as Tom, James Cann as Sonny, Talia Shire as Connie. All together made it as probably the best & favorite movies of so many people world wide... thank you all.
Still can’t believe that a legend like Pacino has only 1 Oscar when so many other actors waaaay below him have more! He should at least have 4, the godfather, justice for all, dog day and scent of a woman.
And Scarface. Very underrated performance by Pacino as Tony Montana. Many “critics” view that role as over the top but Pacino created an entirely UNIQUE personality from thin air for Tony Montana.
Yeah looks like he just finished filming Meet the Fockers always with that smirk. Fact is he's a great actor but sort of comes off as a little dumb and not a very articulate person when being interviewed. IMO
I love how Al still has his same style of dress as he did when he was in his twenties. The head band has that familiar Panic In Needle Park vibe still going strong. He can pull off anything. Only an Actors Actor can do that. Proof he always knew how appear and feel comfortably timeless.
@@briancannon2870 The alternative actor for the role of Michael Corleone was Jack Nicholson Like seriously can you imagine Jack Nicholson as Michael Corleone and NOT Al Pacino? Like seriously no offense to Nicholson, because he is definitley one of the greats, but Al Pacino was the perfect guy to play Michael Corleone
Everyone talks about the movie - which was wonderful - but Mario Puzo was the genius behind the story. The 50th anniversary book is fantastic! The Godfather was his mother :). We need to give writers as much credit as we do the actors.
Rip Jimmy Caan.. A legend with memorable list of great lead role in Brain Songs, Rain People, scene stealing in GF 1, terrific in Rollerball, Gambler, very funny in Freebie and The Bean and also The Elf, magnificent in The Thief, superb comeback in Garden of Stone awesome in Misery, scary in Flesh & Bones and shud have be nominated for oscar in Way Of The Gun. Jimmy is also a great singer and dancer.
seen this film over a hundred times and every time I watch it I find out something I hadnt realized before. Now I am watching this interview and finding out that Coppola and Mario Puzo managed to create a masterpiece despite all the mistrust and criticism from the producers. Even the backstage of this film has a lot to teach.
I don't know when will be the next time my eyes will get a chance to cherish to see sitting that much acting talent in a single frame. Absolutely Legendary 🙌🙌🙌❤
2 minutes in Caan has me cracking up "guys in the back"??🤣😆 Robert Duvall is so underrated he's a wonderful actor and one of my favorites, loved him in many movies ie: the judge. I love his steadfastness.
It was great that Robert De Niro had managed to get this legendary group of actors together to celebrate this all-time classic film 45 yrs. after it's been released. Can't wait to see both him, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel in Martin Scorsese's " The Irishman" real soon.
@@gurukirupa9840 I think he meant in terms of the fact that Tom isn't actually a family member, but was accepted by the family...it's like an adopted boy/girl - you never know what they are thinking. But his acting was such, that he totally fit in.
Same here. That’s why his absence in the third film was so disappointing. He was the beacon of reason that the more extreme characters like Michael, Sonny & Fredo were orientated are which is part of why the series lost a sense of grounded realism once he left. After that it was just over the top helicopter set pieces, Al Pacino being a Scarface style caricature, etc. Overall I like all the Corleone family members though. Apart from the mum & Connie who weren’t really fleshed out as characters. But young Vito, old Vito, Sonny, Fredo, Michael & Tom were all great
Al Pacino did "Serpico" soon after The Godfather. It was such an incredibly strong performance - arguably th finest ever - and yet, he did not win an Oscar that role. Then he did The Godfather part 2, no Oscar. Then, he followed that a few years later with "Dog Day Afternoon," to many Pacino fans, and others, his best role. NO OSCAR! But, that was the 70's. there was a huge difference in th Hollywood of 1970 and 1980; HUGE. I'll always think of Serpico when I hear Al Pacino's name even though The Godfather 1 & 2 are among my all time favorites. Another among my favorites: "Mean Streets." The 1973 movie that got Robert De Niro and Martin Scorcese going. PS: Francis Copolla never considered The Godfather p.2 a sequel. "It's (parts 1&2) the same movie," he said.
Can you imagine? Pacino went to San Francisco and met Lucas,Spielberg, and Coppola...all those guys together in the same room, all unknown, all kids, just about to make the Godfather, Godfather II, Jaws, Star Wars and Apocalypse now within the next five years. Mind blowing.

Yes. Pre-production was done in 1975, shot in 1976-1977. Post production in 1978, released in 79, so made within the next five years after 1971.

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are my two all time favorite actors. They both have made incredible films over the years. De Niro is rather shy on late night television shows, but Pacino is really very funny. Both are entertaining and I love seeing them together.
I am a huge fan all of these people are fantastic likable intelligent and humble Talia Shire underrated actor awesome
I take it you loved them in “HEAT” too?
I used to love De Niro until he started commenting on politics - namely Trump administration. No matter if you like or dislike a sitting president, it shows no class to get up in front of a large audience and say FU. No class at all.

I totally agree with you, Al still looks young he didn't look like he was 77 there looked younger. I was watching a recent interview of him, he can still pull off a 70 year old. www.ovationtv.com/watch/inside-the-actors-studio/inside-the-actors-studio-al-pacino/

Is nobody here going to talk about James caan ?? The great Sonny Corleone..
He really deserved that oscar he was nominated for..
James Caan was Sonny - he was perfect.
Yes he did. He played Sonny perfect performance, if you read the book, James Cann played Sonny just like Sonny was in the book. He is a great actor, & he seems like such a nice guy. Funny too. All the very best to you Mr. Cann. PS - I loved your show Vegas.
absolutely, so sad when they had him killed off, could have added so much for to the Film
Legends. Every single one. Also, I can listen to Al Pacino talk for hours..... the man is sooooo entertaining. Love the guy.

Robert duvall nailed that role, brought alot of human compassion to the films.
My late uncle was a cameraman on the first film. He told me that him and the rest of the crew thought the film was going to be awful. He really didn't understand how great it was going to be or visualize the final product until they saw the final edit (the editing is amazing btw).

Michael Rose u are correct but beware of Al fangirls.

My favorite character was Tom Hagen ( Robert Duvall)

Over Don Vito Corleone? Really?
@@gurukirupa9840 I think he meant in terms of the fact that Tom isn't actually a family member, but was accepted by the family...it's like an adopted boy/girl - you never know what they are thinking. But his acting was such, that he totally fit in.
I like Robert Duvall and De Niro's characters in movies, they always have a lot of courage and humility to them.
