The Air Castle is the hardest dungeon of the game, way ahead of Garubek Tower which would be the second hardest. It's a place that would DESTROY your party if you didn't level enough at the sandworms. Xe-A-Thoul were not a joke!
That intro "bwoooop" is so epic. I used to enter/exit this dungeon over and over just to hear it. Really is a tension builder, and the whole track is arguably my favorite dungeon music of any RPG, ever.
Are there people who don't rate it, 'cause it seems to beloved. Being on the genesis helped a lot with that as it shined so much brighter. Or we talking underrated when put against the Snes heavyweights
I just can't play this anymore, I finished it several times as a kid and teenager, the music is fantastic and the gameplay is original. I fear I play it again, I will cry again and feel an empty void when I'm done. This is the end of the Millenium.... there is no more.
Since 1996 when I first played it on my megadrive. The European versions were all better though, these versions are sped up and don't sound as good no offence.
@@douglasjfalcon9110 That's because of your TV's running at 50 hertz instead of Japan and America's 60. Since the games are originally Japanese, ours isn't speed up; yours is slowed down.
Listening to this on Spatial Audio makes the music go so hard ❤❤❤ turning my head slightly makes me hear all sorts of new instruments and overtones that I never noticed before.
Just got the original Phantasy Star on Sega Master System, and this is the original dungeon theme! It was definitely updated for the Air Castle in the 4th game, but it's really cool to hear where this theme originally started.
Just played this for the first time, with no connection whatsoever to the first game, and still got chills when I heard it. Such a badass theme, and easily the best dungeon in the game imo.

God, when I realized that the layout of last part of the dungeon mirrored the layout of the original Air Castle. This game has the best fanservice.

A floor of the Air Castle in PS4 is the same layout as it was in PS1 Lassic's Castle.
