I’ve driven down one of the hills that Tristan did some time back to get to a campsite in Montana. He didn’t make any mention of it in his video but my Tacoma needed crawl control engaged to get it done safely. It was very short, but it was steeeep.

I have been in the general area too! As you leave St. George, UT towards NV there is a road you can take running which departs from a residential area. It quickly becomes completely undeveloped and full of an amazing variety of desert plants. It's a good paced highway that constantly snakes through mild canyons. I've taken it several times. Once I got off course onto dirt roads that deteriorated severely. I actually got stuck and hiked out to I-15 in 107 degrees brutal heat. I became severely dehydrated. Once I reached civilization I drank an insane amount of Gatorade, water, Juices and milk shakes for 14 straight hours before I peed a drop!

That looks like a really cool place to explore! The rock you point out seems like it could be part of a crinoid fossil....? The interesting texture you point out is probably due to cherty limestone....maybe....? Speaking of limestone slots....I don't think you've done a video on it yet - maybe you have and I just missed it - but there's a cool little limestone slot canyon near the Notch Peak trail head. Just be sure to bring a rope as you can't get to the end without one. I still need to go back and finish that slot!

Thank you! Long time fan here. I appreciate any and all comments you share about how rough the roads you travel are because I have an AWD Honda CRV hybrid. I opted for the excellent gas mileage to better get across the country, but I can’t access many places you do. I’m not a fan of regular campfires either…it doesn’t take much use of a place in the SW before dead wood is completely used up near campsites, and it just doesn’t regenerate fast enough. Instead I starwatch or go to bed and read. Keep the videos coming and happy trails!

Another fantastic video! The snow added another level of beauty to the desert. Interesting: two vids ago, you were standing on the peak of a monolithic slab mountain in Utah where there was only about 1 square yard to stand on, spinning around to get the 360 and then looking straight down about 500 feet. Made me queasy just watching it! I was clutching the arm of the sofa to make sure I didn't accidentally fall off! Today, you were uneasy about taking the Land Cruiser down a steep grade, which I'd do in a hearbeat! I guess we all have our kryptonite....

As a resident of Mesquite I'm thankful for this video as I never knew about Quail Canyon. I will definitely be checking that out very soon! Also just a note for the future. You took the long way to Keyhole Arch. Had you gone past the dam on Watertower Ln. you could have driven right to the arch. Plus you could have seen the choo choo train used as a water tank by the ranchers. Then you could have driven down the route you came up to hike to the arch. Just realized that one of the reasons I enjoy your video's so much is the extra time and effort you take to get distant shots of yourself from a tripod camera or drone. This adds a lot to the standard handheld GoPro shots (at least for me). You actually captioned one shot in this one as going back down to retieve the camera. Got any guesstimates on how much time or distance that adds to the hike you are doing? When you quote hike stats do you count that? I've noticed you hike alot faster than me already (though I am probably double your age), but if you are leaving it out of the distance and not the time you must really move fast. Stay safe.

If I'm talking about the specs of a hike I've done, that always includes the distances and times as I hiked the hike. So yes, that includes going back to retrieve the camera. As for the added time and distance that entails, it really just depends on the hike.

Thanks again for making these videos. I liked the way you described the first canyon in the AZ strip. using words like "fractured, haphazard and angry mother nature". It helped capture the feeling and I do remember feeling that way hiking in Death Valley too. Very cool places to visit.

Was that barbed wire at the keyhole arch? (Love your videos.)

I don't remember if it was barbed or not, but yeah, there was wire there

I really want to see more of the Arizona strip, though I know a lot of those roads are pretty rugged and I merely have a Nissan Juke for those sort of adventures. I don't want to end up on that Matt's Off Road Recovery channel. That slot canyon is amazing!

🎉Great video! Neat that you can go hike back a different way! That must have been quite a drive from I-15. According to Google map, this canyon was close to the Colorado River.

Just moved to Saint George last July and I am sort of disappointed. It’s ok but just too crowded all the time so I leave the area as soon as I get in my car. Lots of beautiful state parks in the area but just too many people. Forget Zion. Gorgeous and breathtaking but always crowded. And the development of this area is off the charts. Construction everywhere and only going to get worse. Gotta look for a more laid back area eventually. Great video Triston! Padre Canyon Trail and Scout Cave Trail are my favorite so far.
