    This video is great inspiration, as are all of your videos! I’m a beginner sewer, and I’m making a shirt based on the shirred dress. I just want to mention for other beginners that one step skipped over in this video that I learned the hard way is that when working with elastic thread, you only use it in the bobbin, and you use regular thread up top. It was only after a lot of snapped elastic thread that I realized this, and looked it up elsewhere.

  • @Moontess
    @Moontess 4 ปีที่แล้ว +77

    I tried something similar to this a few weeks ago and it was so simple and fun to make. For the end of the sleeves, instead of inserting an elastic, I added a few rows of shirring a few inches above the hem, and it became a really pretty, romantic sleeve.

    • @dominiqueolivares6144
      @dominiqueolivares6144 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you add the shirring before or after sewing the sleeve closed along the side edge?

    I love that you added pockets! I have seen many dresses like this with no pockets, so it’s nice to see a tutorial that includes pockets! So cute!

    Okay so here is a tip if you have an HOURGLASS or PEAR shape and you are making this dress! (Please learn from my mistakes!) If your hips are wider than your bust, when you measure the dress panels use your hip measurements rather than the bust measurements. I used my bust measurements rather than my hip measurements, shirred for at least three hours and now have a dress that doesn't fit ;_:
    Super sad as I had been looking forward to this one and had some really nice fabric that is all made up into a dress I cannot wear ;_;
    Big hipped people take note!

    • @nicolemcn
      @nicolemcn ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What about ladies with large bust? I worry that if I do the shirring on my bust measurements then it'll be baggy around my waist, how can I combat this?

    • @luciarodriguez1047
      @luciarodriguez1047 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had this doubt about the measurements and your commment solves it. Thanks!

    • @sandracaraballo9830
      @sandracaraballo9830 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like she did one continuous line and then tied the ends together, like she did in her tube top video! I think you could probably do lines of them if you joined the front and back piece afterwards, you'd just want to make sure they lined up really well.
