Really enjoyed watching this one Paul, not only did I learn something about tarps and hammocks, I thought the early morning views of Crummock were beautifully captured. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Anthony
Thanks for that Paul. Im really enjoying your videos back to back I've spent lockdown submerged lol.watched from recent backwards .That superfly looks nice I will definitely have a try in that one.
Nice rig. I use the same setup. Use the same little s biners on the corners of your tarp to attach the pullouts to the corners of the tarp. Saves ya from having to stake out the hammock.
Hey Paul! Are you still using your hammock from time to time? I've got a very similar setup, but also too many tents. I keep going back and forth between hammocking and tenting (nice to have your own little space sometimes) - what do you prefer?
Dear Paul Messner. Sir! It's great to see you. How you doing? Your looking super awsome. Please may I take a moment of your time. Wowza! Man! Thanks for showing your new gear it's the greatest tarp/Hammock set up in the world. Now that Hammocks Plush! luxury. Now that's you fed/ watered deservingly Paul. Joy to watch you camp out. The morning views are the most stunning views of the Lake in the world. How still the water lovely peaceful if not for those animals. Paul I appreciate it. From Craig Lee White.
Hi Paul, just started watching your vids and have just started hammock camping myself. I'm using the basic DD 3x3 and a Napsack hammock and loved the tarp line you used as the paracord is heavy and soaks up water like a sponge! Also you must have some kit in your garage, give me a buzz next time you have a clear out lol.. 😉
Awesome vid Paul, it's a cracking spot on crummock water and defo one of the nicest places in the lakes. Loved the setup I think I need to know more and invest and experience this hammock camping. Hope you're well mate. ATB Steve
The only thing i will say is from me being in the military i have major OCD with hanging straps and stuff, you could think about buying some sniper tape and taping them up to make your pack look even better. Anyway love the videos dude, Happy camping!
Great video Paul!!!!! Beautiful spot where you camped at. I’m so glad I watched this video. I am currently using the older version of ENO jungle nest hammock and tarp but here in a few weeks ,I will be ordering myself a Chameleon hammock and a Warbonnet Superfly tarp. I have been looking at the Chameleon hammock and Warbonnet Superfly tarp for some time now and just wasn’t sure about the tarp but after seeing how you had yours hung ,the tarp is definitely a great tarp to go with for an all season tarp. Again ,great video when I seen how long the video was, I was like, I don’t know if I can watch this whole video or not. So I watched all the video and subscribed to your channel as well. Keep the good and helpful content coming and Hike on!!!!!!!
Great video! thanks for making it :) With my Chameleon I undo the stuffsack end and shove it in while walking to the other end - didn't even think there was any other method. Love the bands around the tarp trick, never heard it mentioned anywhere else. Subscribed mate :)
Lolol... you cracked me up with the sheep go to bed at 06.30.... What a beautiful place Paul, thats some snazzy gear you got there. Looks a great set up matey, love it, but carnt help but think hammocking is a faf. Underblankets over blankets etc. I got a Exped Synmat 7 on route thanks to your review of them, hope you still getting on with it. Anyway cheers for bringing us along and atb Lee
Been binge watching all your videos and dan bells and I just cant wait to go out wild camping for the first time been camping on sites with the feel for wild camping but cant wait to do my first proper wild camp cause some off the views you get are amazing
The best thing I have found to keep the midges off is Skin So Soft by Avon. Not originally made for that purpose but it works reasonably well. I think you can buy it in Boots.
Paul Messner sorry for the late reply, I just saw this reply. Yes it works. The highland midges are relentless and still swarm round you in their millions but a spray of skin so soft every couple of hours certainly helps. The liquid can solidify in the bottle when left in the cupboard for a long time but just give it a good shake. If the nozzle becomes clogged just pour a little bit in your hand and rub it on.
Wow, that is beautiful Paul! Also, great hammock setup there! Super quick and easy to setup and adjust and, it seems like it gives a great night sleep. Seems like the goats never sleep. :)
Thanks as always for watching and taking time to comment. Something a little different in my new video if you're interested. A bit of woodland camping. th-cam.com/video/cFkKjNkJmLQ/w-d-xo.html
Hello :) could you please share the width of the top quilt when its fully spread,im looking trying to decide if its going to be wide enough for side sleeping
Hi! At 19.36 minutes, what is the name of the unit you took out of the mug to cook with?? How can I find one? I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to describe it, but can't find it. All help appreciated.
I loved this video, absolutely beautiful! My only worry is making food in those plastic bags messes with my hormones something wicked (plastic leeches into your food, and I'm especially sensitive) 😭 Camp meals are rough when you can't heat up your dehydrated meals in plastic. I'm yet to find a good solution.
Crackin' video lad. Originally from up near the Lakes but lived in Seoul the past 10 years. That morning view of Crummock took me back to the times I've camped and woke up in the morning to the peaceful views. I'm in the market to buy a camping hammock and have been looking at getting the Dutchware Chameleon (wide) for myself and the regular for my wee lass for our bike touring trips of Korea. I know your video was from 2017, but has the Chameleon stood the test of time for you?
Hi Paul! Just curious. Why didn't you pour the contents of the pouch directly to the titanium mug? Isn't it a health risk to mix hot water and plastic (ziploc)?
michael m Can buy these from Dutchwaregear.com. Small business in the US. They do ship to the UK. They also ship to US hotels...if you happen to know anyone travelling that way. Henge Hammocks in the UK sell some bits too via eBay shop.
Hey how you doing...just a quick question I have been looking everywhere for the tarp and hammock wondering where about you got it from if you don't mind me asking
+survival pup thank you for the question. I ordered both online from the USA. The Hammock is the chameleon from Dutchware gear and the tarp is the superfly from warbonnetoutdoors. Best wishes. Paul
I can't speak for Paul but personally I get much better sleep in a hammock. In a tent I'm guaranteed to wake up to a sore back and wake up multiple times a night. I haven't had these problems in my hammock (I have a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC). The hammock take a bit of getting used to setting it properly but once you get it it's not really an issue.
Hello Paul! Very nice video indeed. I like that you have put som estethical thought into it. You have the exact set-up that I'm interested in. Thinking of buying a chameleon with the Selva as an UQ. How is the set-up? Easy? ...or does it take a bit of fiddeling? Any cold spots during the night? Any cold air zipping in? Is that the coyote brown chameleon? Looks very nice! All the best/Peter
Very detailed video, I enjoyed watching it. I'm looking forward to buying a chameleon hammock, could you tell me what's included in the hammock set and what isn't? I.e do I need to purchase other accessories together with the hammock (guylines, carabiner, etc.
Hi Paul, I really like your videos, they're really inspiring and informative I love it! Fantastic idea with the cooking too...but when you said there's no Washing to do, I really really hope you don't mean you bin the bags? Washing a zip lock bag is as simpler as pouring and the. Shaking it. I really feel the need to say this, I'm sorry, it's important to me. And what did you mean deet melts things? :)
+screamingpig1 yes but somehow didn't on the Hammock. The tarp was about 60 quid but that was for 2 tarps and I split the cost of importing with a friend.
Really enjoyed watching this one Paul, not only did I learn something about tarps and hammocks, I thought the early morning views of Crummock were beautifully captured. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Anthony
Anthony Payne thanks Anthony. It's a fabulous place.
the view of the lake in the morning is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for that Paul. Im really enjoying your videos back to back I've spent lockdown submerged lol.watched from recent backwards .That superfly looks nice I will definitely have a try in that one.

Paul Messner HAMMOCK CAMPING?! Dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!
Never knew there was so much to camping out in a hammock, great vid Paul.
Got cumulus quilts n hammock gear quilts. The cumulus is next level. Love em. Your video needs a touch of brightness. Fantastic location.
Hey Paul! Are you still using your hammock from time to time? I've got a very similar setup, but also too many tents. I keep going back and forth between hammocking and tenting (nice to have your own little space sometimes) - what do you prefer?
Nice video Paul and lovely morning view of the lake
+Eddie Robinson cheers Eddie. Hope you're keeping well.
Paul, that's some good stuff there. Those Dutch clips are great. Many thanks.

Some bling gear there Paul and a cracking location.

If it rains though, doesn't the rain saturate the hammock through the support straps/lines?
Very nice video Paul. I really enjoyed it. Such a beautiful green and peaceful area too.
Awesome vid Paul, it's a cracking spot on crummock water and defo one of the nicest places in the lakes. Loved the setup I think I need to know more and invest and experience this hammock camping. Hope you're well mate. ATB Steve

Chorizo in the rice , splendid .
very well done. You have some pretty decent equipment. Phil
wildphil64 Thanks Phil. Have you managed to get out much yourself?
Not so much camping, I'm afraid. I'm really ready for one :)
What I do Paul is put the tarp and the hammock in the bag with and for the under blanket. Easy peasey
Thanks as always for watching and taking time to comment.
Something a little different in my new video if you're interested. A bit of woodland camping.
th-cam.com/video/cFkKjNkJmLQ/w-d-xo.html
Loved the vid and your setup Paul. Did you ever do a review? I can't find it in your vids. Cheers
Beautiful area!
It's gorgeous there. Thank you for watching
nice trip, good setup :)
+Bez stopy 👍thanks
Is the hammock body the coyote brown color choice? I like that shade of brown.
Hello :) could you please share the width of the top quilt when its fully spread,im looking trying to decide if its going to be wide enough for side sleeping
Not sure of the width. Its a cumulus taiga 360. they are made for hammocks but I use on the ground too. Thanks for watching. Best wishes, Paul
If the buckle is your water break, wouldn't you want to clip the UQ to the continuous loop and not the buckle?
Great vlog as always looks like you lost some weight too, ill be happy to recycle some of your old, to big waterproofs 😉
Hi! At 19.36 minutes, what is the name of the unit you took out of the mug to cook with?? How can I find one? I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of to describe it, but can't find it. All help appreciated.
Don't see you doing as much hammock camping lately mark! Hope you are enjoying your outings regardless
I'm fairly new to hammock camping, is there a reason you don't drape the tarp over the Ridgeline for more structure?
Hey Paul ,what color is the tarp and Hammock? They match up really good.
+Paul Messner,
Great video. Quick question if I may? Does is the under quilt meant to go against you, inside the hammock?
Many Thanks
jbss7382 underquilt goes under the hammock. Creates an air gap for insulation. Top quilt goes on top like a sleeping bag

Try Avon SSS skin so soft great for stopping midgets ... quite popular in Scotland.. great vid 👍
Hi Paul. What is the aprox. total weight of that sleeping system with tarp, lines, quilts etc.?
What is the name of that stove you're using?
hi there
where did you get the dutch hook and the wasp i cant see them on amazone or ebay
thanks pall
michael m
Can buy these from Dutchwaregear.com.
Paul
Can't beat new gear. I was going to back the hammock on Kickstarter but decided against it.... I am regretting it now.
That cord you use, isn't very tree friendly, I think I will Stick with my Eno straps for my hammock and rain fly.
Nice vid Paul, don't you have anything to stop any damp from wicking down your tree hugger onto the hammock and quilt.
Michael Leigh the beetle buckles do the trick. What do you use on your system.
just carabiners mate.
Hey buddy did u get the 11 or 13 foot tarp? I am debating which one thanks
Can’t remember to be honest.
Where do you get those dutch hooks and that dutch wasp, those look really useful!
Arctic Gator henge Hammocks on eBay. Thank you for watching
Paul Messner Dutchware bling rocks!
Nice one, what's the difference between sleeping in a hammock and a sleeping bag in a tent? Better sleep?

Cracking spot PM, are you using a remote mic these days ?
it sounds really good :)
vanSolo I use the zoom H1
Loving your films Paul cheers for sharing. One question, is it solely an English thing to call the ground the 'floor'?
Brilliant video Paul, where do you get the Dutch wasp etc for the tarp?
Daniel Sinclair henge Hammocks on eBay. Thank you
Very detailed video, I enjoyed watching it. I'm looking forward to buying a chameleon hammock, could you tell me what's included in the hammock set and what isn't? I.e do I need to purchase other accessories together with the hammock (guylines, carabiner, etc.
I bought the kit online and the options are included when you buy. I chose the beetle buckle suspension. the caribiner was not included though

+screamingpig1 yes but somehow didn't on the Hammock. The tarp was about 60 quid but that was for 2 tarps and I split the cost of importing with a friend.
Hope those sheep shut up.... otherwise I'd be having a gyro omlet in the morning..
