My old Polish step-grandfather who was an abrasive cigar-smoking blue-collar worker (and my favorite grandparent) used to stand in his backyard holding seed in his hand. Painted Buntings would feed from his palm. He lived on a barrier island near Savannah, Georgia which was mostly undeveloped in the 60's. The fresh water lake in the middle of the island, made it a destination for birds.

This video is awesome. I couldn't believe it when I read the intro. I live on Amelia Island and for the first time saw a male bunting at my feeders. I have seen several females (or possibly juvenile males) at the feeder. We have marsh front property, and have always hoped that some day I would spot the male!
