- Hi! This trip was a really special one for me because it had been exactly 10 years and one month since I first went to Japan on a short exchange trip in high school. We stayed in the town of Nakagawa, near Fukuoka and it was some of the best memories of my life. I was able to meet up with my translator and mentor and spend the day with my host sister which was such a gift! I am excited to go back and visit my true hometown Nakagawa and see the rest of my family, hopefully much sooner than the last 7 year gap we had :') Thanks as always for being a part of this journey with me!

This reminds me of my Japan trip in 2016 when i travelled alone. it was one of the BEST experiences i ever had, i even lost 5 kgs just by walking lol. I literally walked every day without a destination. Best Feeling ever!
lol yes! wandering is so good for your mental and physical health hahah, i just always counteract that with ice cream multiple times a day
Ohh yes! I also did some solo travel in 2016 in Osaka and Kyoto, where I cycled aimlessly. SO much fun! :D
That's my favorite way of travelling! Just walking around and get lost in new places. There's always surprises to come across

This reminded me of the Ghibli studio movie Only Yesterday. Have you watched it? It is so brilliant! I highly recommend. It is also about a girl who goes to the countryside and finds that she enjoys life there way more than in Tokyo. 💖💖💖

@@caricakes Yey! It's so good :) It was directed by the same person who directed The Grave of Fireflies (Isao Takahata). I love his movies so much. His films are more realistic compared to Hayo Myazdzaki's ones. There is no magic (at least not in the ones I saw). Anyway. I love both of them. Enjoy your time in Japan!

lol the first time i went there it was right before applying to college so we were all over that cow hahaha
I also stayed in Fukuoka for 3 months and it was the first time I have been abroad. I felt so lucky to be there" the people was warm and hospital, the food was awesome and the weather was nicer than any other places I had traveled through Japan. This city was like my second home where I set my first step outside my country. Love this place so much!

The opener of this video ripped my heart out. You perfectly encapsulated nostalgia of traveling abroad when you are young and just completely immersed in a new world with zero bias. It's like being in an entire different time and space and the vulnerability is fun and magical. Reminded me of my first out of the country trip to Rome when I was 13. You are such a great story teller!
Also I def had the same billabong sweater! I grew up on a beach town in NJ so billabong (and roxy and o'neil, etc) were the only clothes I wore lolol
I love how the old footage from your first trip to Japan, with all the excitement and innocence, led into a present day adventure ♥️ it was a perfect and realistic take on what it's like to return to a place of nostalgia, dealing with some unfortunate weather and planning troubles, but still coming out in the other side feeling grateful and loved 😊 I really hope you'll take us to your Japanese hometown in the future!

I love japan! I am half japanese, and when I go there it feels like my 2nd home. My favorite part of japan is listening to all the noises (like the sounds in the trains).

I've always dreamt of going to Japan. I've studied Japanese for about 5 years now and my teacher always reminisces on her life in Japan and hearing stories of peoples travels makes me want to go even more!!!
I've only watched two of your videos so far, but I really Love the style of your story-telling. Especially all the shots of people, landscape, and small details in your surroundings. It combines to a very immersive story that brings the viewer along on your journey. Very Pro. And the music! Perfect. Gives me a huge Lost In Translation-vibe, which is my favorite movie, and a big reason for my love of Japan. Hope to see much more of this!

I spent a collective total of six weeks in Fukuoka six years ago, and I don't know what it is but there's something about it that I just love. I miss it a lot, and hope I can go back again some day.

i love love this vlog! my brother was currently studying in a university outside of the fukuoka area so we visited for a few days, it was such a charming place. we had a kitakyushu road trip and it was honestly one of the most memorable moments of my life. kyushu is such a sweet part of japan that many overlook when travelling. i wish it got more love but at the same time i don’t want it to be swarmed with tourists :/ you captured fukuoka so amazingly! thank you for bringing back old memories :) beautiful vlog as always
