I also enjoy the fact that you both take the correct precautions necessary to operate the machine. Respecting the Tools you use is the first step in Safety. Wearing the correct attire that doesn't involve dangling clothing and all the equipment necessary to complete the job, is just as important as safety glasses and durable gloves
Thanks for a great video without a lot of complicated side notes. Simple is sometimes the best. My jointer is 40 years old and still going strong, although I did upgrade the guard and replace the bearings, which was a simple job. AS with most Shopsmith tools, the jointer is built like a tank and will probably outlast anyone who owns one. Blessings, Glen
Another great video. Thanks for the pointing out the safety nubs on the jointer. I will spray paint those nubs RED later on today as a simple reminder to keep my fingers and hands out of the danger zone. Thanks Mike.
The only safety comment I would make when using any SPT at the same time the table saw is set up is to keep the saw guard installed if possible so you don't advertly forget the saw when you are jointing, bandsawing, etc.

Excellent job, Mike. Of all the woodworking tools, the jointer scares me the most. I'm pretty sure that is because my dad lost the end of his middle finger on one, way back in the 1940's. I suppose that has left a lasting impression with me. I sure appreciate all the good information and tips that you share with us. Thank you so much.
As you remove material from each side you are changing the over all geometry and each time it gets smaller. I'm so sorry I can't explain it better. I barely grasp it.

Why did you remove the spring from the coupler? That seems like a safety issue.
How does it taper the leg versus just making the bottom part of the leg smaller but no taper? Did I miss something?

well, it will do most any size, but the longer ones will require a jointer fence extension
Im not ooposed to it and see many benefits but a touch screen on a shopsmith just seems weird
