Genuine question because I don’t know a lot about tanks or fishes doesn’t the glue dissolve in the water and that would then poison the fish?

Superglue will not break down, neither will 2 part epoxy or mortar (marketed as reef safe).

Wrong, my 2 new tanks cycled within 4 months. Your doing something wrong if it takes you a year.
