Joep R Really good drummer. May I suggest, if you don't already know them, the italian band Novembre? For example the tracks Remorse, or Winter 1941. Another great drummer, imho.
Im pretty sure he's a trained Jazz drummer and he practices for up to 4 hours a day, a month or two before starting a tour or album. And 2 hours of that is just practicing double bass.

As a drummer watching this video of Mario's absolute dominance for the hundredth time, the only word that comes to mind is: thunderous. The tone, the method, the emotion he gets out of this performance, it truly is awe inspiring. There's times where it looks like he's shaking the cameras he's playing so hard yet he never gets sloppy for even a second. This is what metal is supposed to be.

Gojira is the best band i have crossed in years, and they sound incredibly good live. All the members are talented, but the drums stole the show for me. It takes some time to get used to gojira's sound, but once you get you're addicted to them.

The way it hit's my brain, I can't describe it.. - I'll attempt to: Listen to the song 20 times, so you anticipate the melodies, memorize the lyrics, then don't listen to the song for about a month (if you can last that long). Come back listen to it again, then sing it with every passion in your body and let the volume be a comfortable degree of 'loud'. The passion you feel singing it and jamming it.. ugh.. It's such a good feeling. That feeling is dripping off me at the moment and I love every second.
This song more than any other pushed me to finally take the leap, buy a drum kit and learn to play. Long road ahead, but one day I'll cover this song :)

saw them live at Werchter Boutique (Belgium), they had to play in the afternoon, just a few hours before Metallica. When I came home I ordered all the CD's of Gojira and kind of forgot how Metallica performed. I don't want to diss Metallica, the Gojira-gig was just so energetic! I was blown away!

i am a relatively new gojira fan but there is a special story about this song.. i was on vacation when a friend played this song for the first time. it went straight to my heart and i got goose bumps even on my head. i didn't knew that my grandmother was in fact dying in that very moment... I listened to this song several times before I was going to get in the surgery. It wasn´t something too important neither my life was in danger, but I needed the strenght to do it. Two things I learned watching my father recently pass after a botched brain surgery to remove a tumor: 1) Dying is your own journey. Even if you're holding their hand, they are experiencing death alone. 2) All we can do is tell them we love them. Tell your family you love them. Always. Nothing else is important. Trump? Biden? LOL Perspective. There is definitely an Art to Dying, it's different for everyone - you can't predict what it will be like but you are alone on your journey despite being surrounded by loved ones.

saw them live at Werchter Boutique (Belgium), they had to play in the afternoon, just a few hours before Metallica. When I came home I ordered all the CD's of Gojira and kind of forgot how Metallica performed. I don't want to diss Metallica, the Gojira-gig was just so energetic! I was blown away!

i am a relatively new gojira fan but there is a special story about this song.. i was on vacation when a friend played this song for the first time. it went straight to my heart
and i got goose bumps even on my head. i didn't knew that my grandmother was in fact dying in that very moment... RIP... it gives me chills every times i listen to that masterpiece

Two things I learned watching my father recently pass after a botched brain surgery to remove a tumor:
1) Dying is your own journey. Even if you're holding their hand, they are experiencing death alone.
2) All we can do is tell them we love them.
Tell your family you love them. Always.

There is definitely an Art to Dying, it's different for everyone - you can't predict what it will be like but you are alone on your journey despite being surrounded by loved ones.
