    It was really hard for me to cut my exercise down. But I did it for a few days and now I feel so strong minded. My gentler self is in control now, not the "give it your all and no rest days" part of me. I've tried to recover from this for a year now but never really committed to it. Now that I found your channel I feel strong and not alone❤️

    Wow. Just wow. Having only stumbled across you in the last couple of weeks, needless to say there has been some binge watching! But having been thoroughly entertained and chuckled at many of your videos....this was the first one that I burst into tears! Darling soul, thank you for the work you are continually doing. Every video I have watched I can feel just how sincere your heart is and your honesty shines. Just amazing. I'm almost 8 years new without a cycle however everything you just mentioned was definitely me 18 months ago. I am still on my way I guess. Thank you for the support xxx

You should know that YOUR comment is the one that tipped my cup over and has prompted me to come back to posting on IG and making videos here on YT. Sending so much love back to you! acaseofthejills I know you've mentioned that you experienced water retention. I'm really struggling with sudden weight gain around my abdomen. Any tips?

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For water retention (actual weight is different and probably healthy at this moment) be careful of salt intake, keep stress levels low (life, work, emotional, AND physical...this means no fasting, working out too much, etc.), get lots of sleep, drink plenty of water, gentle YOGA (so good for moving fluid around because of the different postures). Be kind to yourself...always good for the body and soul :) xo

    Hello Jill! I just discovered your channel. I struggled with HA for years and I too found that eating an abundance of food and rest was my key to healing. I have a brother who is an ultra runner as his profession (you've probably heard of him) and so I can relate to your runners lifestyle to a certain extent...though I have had to cut out running for the most part and now focus on yoga and other forms of movement. :) Anyway, I just thought I would introduce myself. Thanks for all the interesting information!

      Rachel, thanks so much for saying hi! Hmmm, I bet I have heard of your brother for sure :) Your story is so important to share since many women are in that tough phase of "keeping the faith", but haven't quite gotten their periods back yet. I'm grateful for you being here! Keep in touch! XO

    Thank you but I still have questions.
    I got my first period for two months, it stopped for ten, came back the same day the next year, and hasn't been back about nine months now. I've stopped working out as much and started eating more, but that hasn't worked. My doctor said not to worry about it because " I don't want it anyway" so I don't know the root of the problem.
    What should I do?

    I've had hypothalamic amenorrhea for over 4.5 years now as well. However, one of my challenges...if "someone outside myself was making me have amenorrhea" I'd be grateful to them, because I've always hated having a period, never saw it as anything more than a shameful nuisance and am uncomfortable with the expectations that femininity seems to bring?:\ Btw I'm not ab athlete, but still find your channel helpful for a rational view on amenorrhea that's not overly focused on fertility and the joy of getting your period, etc. Do you have any videos that cover the damaging effects of amenorrhea, BESIDES infertility and low bone density? I've found those never seemed like sufficient reason to stop restricting.

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do have plenty of videos on this channel that address the very scary complications of HA including heart disease and cognitive decline. Turns out that a lack of estrogen will ruin your heart AND your brain...not just melt your bones. Femininity is a construct. Biology is not. You can have whatever opinion you'd like about what getting a period means, but you can not argue with the realities of physiology, unfortunately. No matter how someone identifies, people with ovaries will end up with health complications if they are not able to ovulate. It's that simple. I am sorry that you are not compelled by even the concept of having low bone density. Will you be compelled into action by a broken limb? Ending up with a Dowager's hump (google it)? I'm more concerned about you ascribing your personal value to your body size and sacrificing everything to attain something that is clearly unnatural for you. You deserve better.

    Hi Jill,
    Thank you so much for this.
    Jill, I have cut out all running together for a few months now but I had started weight training in January and so I still was not feeling my body enough for the activity I was doing. How can I ensure that I will gain a healthy amount of weight ? I am fine and actually happier with training less. I created a new Instagram account as well so that I am not bombarded with these ideal "body types". Can you please advise how to control anxiety and what foods helped you recover ? :)
    Bryanna

      Hello!! There are so many videos on my channel that talk about anxiety and how to manage mental health while going through this process...I would do a quick search on my page for "anxiety" or check the Mental Health/Psychology playlists. You're on the right track!!

    what to do if your not under weight?

    • @jillcolangelopsych
      @jillcolangelopsych  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You can be underfueled and not underweight, for sure. The same principles apply. You have to take a look at your energy output compared to the number of calories you are taking in to get on the road to getting your period back. Again, it's not what "we" want...It's what our bodies need.
