Thank you very much. My model does not have the ribbon, it has a wire that runs outside the wand but I think you have given me enough to go on. Great video!

I know this is an old video but it sure helped me fix my vacuum. Thank you for the explanation, was able to find the part online although it now has a new number than what sears sells. Easy to find with a few searches, thanks again.

Ordered both parts you specified. It cost $39 shipped. Took no time to install and the vacuum works as good as new! The wife is very happy! Thanks so much for posting!

Nice (and brief) tutorial! I used it to repair my 10+ year-old Kenmore Model 116, which uses the same wand and had intermittent beater operation. Instead of ordering and replacing the terminal cover as shown, I first tried Kevin's suggestion by cleaning and tinning the leads. It took me two minutes and it worked like a charm. Now, to see how long it continues to work! Thanks again.

Hello how do you fix the slide button on the wand so it does not move when vacuuming..Basically our wand will get shorter when using the carpet cleaning attachment..any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Nice work there. I have had the connector go bad twice now. The fist time bought a new power head thinking the problem was with the connectors on the head. It seemed to work better. The second time, I got dirt cheap and just put some solder paste flux on the connectors and then tinned the leads with some solder. It has been working for about 6 months now with no problems. To prevent the connectors from getting damaged now I turn off the vacuum before I connect or disconnect the wand.

+Kevin Smith Thanks for the tip to prevent future damage - I didn't know you shouldn't disconnect the wand while the vacuum is running and I see now it's clearly mentioned in the manual on page 12 - duh on my part!

@Kevin Smith: how long did your quick fix last? Still going, 3 years later?

Thank you. Mixing electrical equipment is not easy for me. I replaced this and my vacuum is running great. Now if I could just find a man that like vacuuming. :-)

Great advice from a previous viewer: Make sure connector is not energized when connecting or disconnecting to prevent arcing! (good practice for all electrical connections)

Great video on dissasembly and repair. I took the plug out and re-tined it also like Kevin Smith suggested below and it now works great.. I am sure at some point I will need to replace the plugs but for a quick fix, this method worked for me. Thanks for posting your video

My terminal cover 8191782 at Sears Parts was $17.18 including shipping and fast service - Aug/2015 and it seems to have fixed my shorting out problem (for my Kenmore Intuition canister vacuum). I'll probably have to replace the handle connector eventually, but for now - Thank you Randy again so very much!!

I got the clips out on the wand but cannot for the life of me get that cover to pull down. Mine is an Intuition but the wand looks exactly the same as yours. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your helpful video.

I have the same problem with a different model Sears Canister. My cord is exposed and there are metal pins(?) holding the plastic housing to the wand, which the female end of the electrical cord sits in. The pins do not push in as do the larger pins that hold the wand together. They are more like rivets? It looks like the electrical cord piece may need to be pushed through, as the opposite, pronged end of the cord will not pull through the housing. Not sure of the proper terms for these parts. Hope this makes sense!

Thanks Randy for the instructions. I had run over a shoe lace and gotten it pretty well rapped around the agitator bar. I think that caused the contacts in the terminal cover to heat up pretty good before the overload shut things down. With your tutorial I was able to remove the terminal cover and freshen up the contact probes. While I was at it I used a thin blade knife to "spread" the head of the contact probes. I am sure replacement of the terminal cover is in my future but for now it works. The price seems to have increased quiet a bit since your 2002 post-now in the neighborhood of $35.

Where did you find the terminal cover? I cannot find it on the sears website. Thank you for your informative video!

Thank you! I removed the old cover and cleaned up the prongs with contact cleaner and a wire brush. Works great now!

hi, I replaced the pins and the swivel because it was broken but the spring loaded clip that keeps the wand in the power mate is weak that it falls off, have you or anyone else found a fix for this ? I have the old swivel and I'll probably mod that to work so u don't ruin the new part that I got for it. thanks in advance for the help

Great instructions for one side of the wand. How do you replace the other side of the wand? I mean the socket portion of the connector on the wand? That's the one that connects with the rotating brush (which you called the beater part)? Is there another videoplease?

Mine wasn't damaged, did not replace. I don't see a breakout of that connector. I suspect the complete Extension Wand P/N KC99PCPMZV06 may need to be ordered? Google search found some listed for $60 Feb 2015.

can you tell me how to fix the lock in this telescoping wand? I found a pin on the floor that may have come loose or it may be a spring.
