My Sears Kenmore canister wouldn't start so I took it to the repair shop. They told me it needed a $125 part plus $75 labor. So I thought I'd just try this first. Sure enough, once I opened the handle, I found that one of these wires inside had popped loose. So I didn't replace the part, I just popped the wire back in. The machine came right to life. The only advice I'd give here is to be real careful when you pry the part open. The tabs you need to pry open are very weak , especially the ones inside, so take your time. Otherwise, this was a great fix! Many thanks!!!!

Great video instruction for a simple DIY fix! I am fairly mechanical but this disassembly was a stumper for sure (VW must have designed it)! Thank youso much for helping me keep the Old Sucker alive for many more years and not ending up in the trash!

Hey Randy......I want to sincerely thank you for this information. I had a large permanent marker get stuck, and you showed me how to get to the hose. Thank you. :)

Randy, good video. One suggestion I have for you: When installing the new connector, use some Krazy Glue, or the generic super glue from the dollar store, & glue the connector permanently onto the holder on the hose tube it sits on. What causes that connector to start arcing & to fail in the first place is the clips on the back that hold the connector onto the holder, over the years they loosen up, allow the connector to slide up & down just a tiny bit, enough that the connector & the plug on the wand no longer mate & transfer power properly when the hose is connected to the wand when you're pushing back & forth & vacuuming normally. If you glue the connector in place when doing the repair, you will NEVER have this problem again. Even better, if you take the hose apart & do this repair & glue the connector when you first notice the arcing & do it IMMEDIATELY, before the connector is damaged permanently. I have bought & used & repaired a few Kenmore canisters, & this connector issue is almost always the issue, & found this to be the best solution. Hope this helps anyone reading & attempting a repair.

Thank you for this, you make it straightforward and easy to follow. I have a question on removing the electrical tape from the old terminal - I cannot pull the tape out of the terminal and wonder if slightly older/newer models (11627815701) have the tape permanently attached to the terminal? Cannot see a way to easily pull it out. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi everyone....Anybody know if you can inter-change the canister motors on these vacuums or does it have to be the exact same one? I see some canister motors on e bay but not my model number.
