The Escalade V is a very cool car and a great alternative to a GLS, X7, or a Range Rover. But the G wagon sits in a class of its own in terms of desirability. There's a reason why even 20 year old examples are worth crazy money.
The only reason older G wagon's cost so much is because they 99% of the population can't tell the difference between a new and old one. Thus you could technically 'ball on a budget'.
@@jameskester7745 The Caddy definitely does more for the money, but the G wagon buyers aren't really interested in bang for the buck value, they want the status symbol. And if the epitomy of luxury is the goal, then the Range Rover and the GLS are the better options compared to the Escalade.
I could have NEVER imagine someone could have such a blast with a door slam or the throttle lift-off popping! Those moments were simply hilarious! Thanks for another excellent video, guys!
Truly absurd, the exhaust just makes it so exquisitely ridiculous. Which V model do you own? All of them are super awesome. If I was super rich and didn't have to work, I would buy an Escalade V and become and Uber driver, hehehe
This G-class might look like the first gen G-class that dates back all the way to 1979 but this second gen is fully new from the ground up. It's not old-school at all. The only three parts from the previous generation which were carried over to the new generation are the headlamp washers, the push-button door handles and the spare wheel cover bolted to the rear tailgate.
Was recently at Spring Mountain and they were driving us around in that Es-ka-la-day. Everytime the gas pedal was released, that burble and pop .... It was fun at first but then I had that same reaction as Todd :-0 Good review
I want to put a LS7 in a 79 Coupe de Ville. Keep the car looking bone stock but do a little suspension work not a Canyon Carver just enough to handle the power and a nice set of dual exhaust. Maybe 21/2 inch coming to the rear and the tail pipe tapered down. Just something to have fun and cruise long distance. Great Videos Thank You 🙏
I can’t even imagine what these feel like. I rented an Expedition Max last week in Colorado and I thought the power of that ecoboost was pretty amazing. Could likely beat my GTI 0-60 while weighing twice as much. Cruising 80mph up 70 at 1750 rpm. Crazy times.
Fun fact, if a g-wagon does fall over, it's designed not to roll, just land and slide... They were going to use one in The Terminal List show on prime, but when they found out it wouldn't flip and roll they switched to the Porsche (sorry Paul). Episode 5 I think.
That exhaust burbling in the Cadillac is similar to the one in my Camaro 2SS 1LE. I can make it do that every time I lift off the throttle in Sport or Track mode (actually, I have it set to do that in every mode!), and it's a riot. However, I think the sound duration seems to last even longer in the Caddy, which is saying something, as it can go on for quite a while in the Camaro.
Thank for the great video. G wagon unique in its niche. This gen still as capable as prev though 2019 refresh brought in more electronics, luxury in power train, independent front suspension as opposed to solid axles.. I have my G270 CDI but does everything and beyond. Esca good but competition with other SUVs like x7,range,etc
Lovely! You should compare the GLS63 AMG vs this $150k Escalade. The G63 is not direct competitor and to be honest, a fashion accessory. In terms of driving, the G63 is way better for city and daily cruising due to smaller size. People do not realize the G is smaller in length than an E class.
A used Mercedes will deprecate faster; as will any German brand and cost far more in repairs. The GM V8 engines are the best, most produced, most swapped in engines for all makes and models, and overall best Automotive gasoline engine developed in automotive history. GM is really doing well. The Bolt, this, the C8 are all home runs in their categories. Even the new Tahoe is the one I’d pick in that space. PS - I would not have watched this if it wasn’t for the Shorts I saw.
I have read many reviews on the Cadillac Escalade but the "Elephant " in the room is the reliability with the 6.2 engine and the dismal fuel mileage on premium. Both icons in their own right, but I’m more of a Cadillac guy. Their design language stands apart from anything else on or off road (also found on the track 😜) and it is bold but opulent. Nothing of the size will drive, neither does nothing growl like that _V!_ 🔥
Then the Ford Econline van has to be in the top 5, it's too bad car manufacturers are pressured to change things sometimes just for the sake of change, and ruin something that was already great whether styling, powertrain or whatever.
Now in regard to the mass vs velocity/braking issue, just think for a minute how much more mass and velocity is present in that vehicle in comparison to the Escalade V. What could possibly go wrong?

Have a ‘24 G63AMG. It’s fast, drives fairly nimbly and turns heads. One major issue - wind noise. Extremely annoying. Same issue with my previous G Wagon (‘19 G 550). Sounds like the window seal is defective on both sides of the car. Cannot be fixed. The car really is a 4 seater and leg room in back sucks if front row passenger is 6’0”. Storage is OK at best in back. I am going to test drive the ‘25 Escalade V with view toward swapping them out.
The most entertaining car report I have ever watched you guys do. Todd, your one liners and metaphors are hilarious; and Paul, the expression on your face when you listened to the exhaust notes on these behemoths was priceless. Your comment about electric vehicles and whether they will be able to elicit the visceral response that the sounds a gasoline engine produces is thought provoking. I bet some engineer in Stuttgart is already devising a way on a microchip to replicate those engine noises and coordinate them with the rpms of the electric motor to create that exhaust sound in the cabin of an electric vehicle. Great report guys. Loved every second of it.

The Escalade exhaust can be exciting, but always hearing that noise, at a certain point might be annoying. I don't really know whether or not, but it seems like that. When you say Mercedes, in this case, you don't talk about a normal Mercedes. That is an AMG! It has nothing to do with a common simple Mercedes, it's tuned, it has special components, and of course you know that, better than me, but someone might be confused and think, oh the Mercedes are so fast! No way, the AMG are! Alpina or M are, not BMW. And of course, the prices are much higher than a normal Mercedes or BMW. However my choice would be a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, if I would have enough money, of course 😄🥰Thanks for the video.
15:10 No, the G has no air suspension. And as impressive the AMG version looks, sounds and is, i personally would get a Diesel one. No idea if they are even sold in the US, but here in europe they are. (with a 2 year waiting list at the moment). And btw.: as i am living less than half an hour away from the G factory, i have seen the upcomming electric one in onroad testing several times now. (It's easy to recognize as the stickers they put onto the whole car lok like a circuit board in blue.)
Ain’t nobody driving that Escalade in the snow. They’re gonna sell a billion of those in southern California, Texas, the South, and places where it never snows. And that’s okay. It’s a baller car. That’s what it’s for. Look at me! I have money and I’m gonna show it off. Both visually and audibly.
There’s burble tunes and sports exhausts and DSG trombone tunes and then there’s the exhaust and firecracker tune on the Escalade V😂. But as Todd said at the end they rediculus, as is every “SPORTS SUV”
How dare they not check with their audiences' financial advisors first. Don't they know we only watch vehicles we all collectively intend to buy, like a Corvette Z06 or a CT5 Blackwing or a Manual Supra? I'm sure that re-reviewing the same cars but with a new paint option would be much better for their TV show and livelihood. And there definitely aren't people who find these ridiculous over the top vehicles entertaining just to witness.

We're been quite surprised to see (and hear!) a full size ESV Escalade V this winter in Park City. Thanks for watching!
the "oh ma gahhh" lmao
both cars have that cool factor...makes you feel like your 12...thats worth it...
I'd have em both
Taking the Escalade any day of the week
My old 911 door sound was awesome.. 1970 911 T
There’s burble tunes and sports exhausts and DSG trombone tunes and then there’s the exhaust and firecracker tune on the Escalade V😂. But as Todd said at the end they rediculus, as is every “SPORTS SUV”
G Wagon has true offroad capability.
Glad you enjoyed watching. Thanks for the laugh!
