Malcomb McNab is the GREATEST TRUMPET PLAYER EVER!! At 68 i listen to this theme song when I wake up and before bed. Then I can watch Cagney and Lacey on Start TV for 2 hrs . Living a great life!!!
This is absolutely AWESOME welcome back to the 1980's the SUPERB cop series that not only made television history but made Miss Sharon Gless and miss Tyne Daly along with the rest of the OUTSTANDING cast house hold names. This is one of my favourite theme tunes of all time., listening to this upbeat tribute relives Cagney and Lacey running after the criminals in the opening sequence. I wonder if miss Sharon Gless and Miss Tyne Daly have heard this brilliant tribute great job bravo Big beer band. 😃
In addition to all the praise for the sounds, "a shout out" to the camera and sound crew. Good video/camera placement and audio coverage -- not an easy feat with this large of a group in a rather confined space. One common element about Big Beer Band's renditions of "Cagney and Lacey," "The Rockford Files," "Mannix" and "Hawaii Five-O" is there's considerable improv-type additions/padding in their three minute renditions of the traditional one-minute themes. (One-minute main titles: you know, back in the day when there was such a thing.) From where I'm sittin' I can guarantee Big Beer Band's men and women -- the audience here on TH-cam is having nearly as much fun as you are! Thanks for posting, Nigel Crane.
What a great rendition!! For me those short drum rolls that punctuate the tune every so often are just wonderful! I could watch and listen to this over & over!
This has to be the scrappiest and sloppiest version of this tune Ive heard in all th year I've played the tune myself and they've also taken it to an easier key to play in, so that shows that this band must be amateurs. Its also played far too fast and all the classic hallmark moments are missing, starting with the two part Alto Sax intro and the exit was played so badly and also played legato when it should be all tongued, but not staccato ..... really poor amateur version ..... Ive heard high school age kids play this much better and also in the correct key signature too.
Sebastian Welcome , if you listen to the original in its full version then the intro is the same one as per the TV show, tenor saxes in harmony with the altos playing the altissimo fills. The tenor saxes on this version were also trying to play glissandos and not all at the same time yet for the same part. You then move to the verse section (or part 2 if you prefer) and the playing gets even sloppier with notes being missed or overblown making them sound like the octave up and slightly flat as a result of not using the octave key too. There are many more things that I could point out but think that if these points above could be sorted along with using the original arrangement and bpm it could be a passable version of the tune.
I didn’t question the key they were using just the standard of playing. I don’t know how much experience or if you play yourself and which instruments .... I’ve been playing wing instruments for 40 years and as a high school student was a part of our local concert band and Divisional Wind band. At 16 I was also First chair on clarinet for the Scottish National Youth Orchestra and was there for 4 years till Ini took over my free time. Also the cut off was looming at my 21st birthday was approaching. I do love hearing bands. I do love hearing bands but if they are not up to scratch then I do comment, to help them improve or point out how an independent set of ears hears things .... I’ve had this over the years too, record something thinking it sounds fantastic and listening back to it blows that away and y have to record the parts again as it was total trash !
Brilliant how the Bass guitarist slides the classic sound at 2:24 👍
Amazing ❤❤❤❤
Christine Cagney is my spirit animal

I just found it on START TV ! Absolutely love the show . And the theme song - out of this world !!!
I love watching stuff like this. Such happiness and one of the best theme tunes of the 80's.
Awesome!
A super jazzy version, how unique! Love it!
AMAZING! I wanted to see this theme performed live. God Bless You ALL! EXCELLENT JOB!!
Kudos to Bill Conti ! Kudos to Big Beer Band.
I enjoy it every time I watch. Especially the enthusiastic tambourine guy at 1:10.

Reminds me of "more cowbell", haha
I love it.
Cagney & Lacey's theme is one of my favorite television theme tunes, it's most definitely in my top ten. GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!
I have it as my ringtone on my phone.

このテーマ大好きです
Major props to those two sax players who totally nailed the riff at the end!
I enjoyed that as much as the musicians obviously did!! great job.

Excellent job!
Lovely to hear this live rendition of the brilliant intro tune.Especially to the lads on the saxophones, nice effort!Brilliant!
The sax riff was almost perfect…and the two guys knew they could have nailed it better. I like to see they were hard on themselves like that.
The man of the minute 1.10 is the very best, the only one and the one and only!!🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
You see his face????.... hahaha! The sax killed it though. Great job!
The tambourine guy is working it.
That chap on the bongos has his work cut out for him too.
awesome job guys!
love the name ...Big Beer Band
Wow amazing thanks
Just brilliant, fun and vibrant. Awesome tune, they do it justice :)
Großartig, toll gespielt👍
Really cool arrangement.
Enthusiastic Tambourine man is a MOOD
That 70's Fender Jaszz holding all down.. and those chimes made it.
Fucking amazing!!!!!!! Wow My Childhood returns!!!!!!!! Guys You are great!!!!!!!!!!

Yaaaaayyy!! 🎉
Fantastisch
Really enjoyable! Good tele! Thanks,
Brilliant 🥰
This is fucking awesome!
This would be really difficult to nail. I think these guys did a good job!
Absolutely...👍💪😎
Where's that screaming sax note
I want to hear that soloist going out of his mind
Loved it tho
Bye good luck
Jamming 👌🏽
Slightly too fast but amazing nonetheless. Thank god for 80's tv and the classic channels that still give them airtime.
1.10 that bloke playin the tambourine looks like a right loonatic pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
just looks like he really getting into it
Well done, guys. But just one question, with all my respect: why so fast???
Where does this TV themes night take place?
👍
I thought I was listening @ x2 - this is an interpretation, it's too fast making it sound rushed. Good effort, however I prefer the original...
It's going at about the correct tempo if video is playing at the 75% speed setting in TH-cam. 50% speed setting makes it sound like a dirge.
Really good and a piece I love to play, but its not as good as the original which just goes to show how superb the recorded guys were.
te lo resumo
I'm sorry people! The original from the series sounds a lot better!😬 The main thing is that you enjoy making music! All the best!!!💐
A little bit to fast :(
This looks like the Army band out of uniform.
About 10 - 14 beats per minute too fast. Slow it down a little so that everybody can hit more of the notes.
If I know right, the original Bill Conti version (1982-83 season) was 125 BPM.
Great job...way too fast!
Far to fast, slow it down chaps!
Tempo kicked in WAY too fast - those poor sax players didn’t stand a chance!
Nope

l thought it was pretty good for a brass band

It's in Bb, just like on TV.
