Well played, Steve! I'm 59 and started listening to Henry's music when I was 4. (it is the truth). Peter Nero's jazz piano "Reflections" album, and "The Best of Mancini" (1964 album) were my two go-to albums back then. I still have the vinyl. Henry was my favorite (still is) film composer. Love his music still after 55 years! Was Jack Gilfoy Henry's drummer?
luv it! Brings back very vivid memories of one of my all-time favourite TV shows . And I luv all the six angels, from Farrah Fawcett to Tanya Roberts👍Henry Mancini's arrangement captures the brilliant essence of this iconic TV series--both angelic and glorious indeed :-)
Love this! The theme music, characters and style of the Angels is what makes this show my favorite. I swear I have seen all the episodes, have the episodes on DVD and I still watch them on CoziTV on thursday nights. Seeing and hearing the theme song played live makes me feel so happy.
Back in the day, if they were baking cookies, I still would have been watching. If I was trying to flip my hair around not a good idea! If you were a young guy and you didn't like that show, you weren't a young guy. Something else going on.
Until finding this video unexpectedly, I didn’t know that Henry Mancini wrote the theme for “Charlie’s Angels”. Talk about learning something new every day.
I've been studying Mingus' "Fables of Faubus" lately and I can't stop thinking about this song whenever I play B section. There's a phrase that reminds me of this. I think are the same intervals.
This was how the piece was originally written. Spelling-Goldberg musicians arrange d it differently for the show adding cues and bridges to make the theme as heard on the TV show. If you listen to the TV show theme carefully you’ll see it’s all pieced together
I remember meeting bassist Steve Dokken in Indianapolis when I was a undergrad at Indiana University. He sold me his old Mutron envelope follower for $25! I still have it. Great guy and player.
I was bowled over by Steve's performance on this song. I wish he and Hank could have released this version as well as the original. I admire Hank because of his talent and sense of humor. He had a basoon player play a solo on "Peter Gunn" that was part of the PBS special "Mancini And Friends." It is on TH-cam if you look for it. Thanks for the comments.
¡un bello dia ... que bello evocar con esta fantastica musica y con el genial henrry manchini mucho mejor que bellos recueredos . .... que bello es recodar ...!
Hey there Steve. From one bass player to another you did a hell of a job playing this arrangement. This is what bass playing supposed to be about which is playing in the pocket. I try to tell many younger bass players it's not about playing speed licks and thumping and plucking the bass to death. Bass playing is much more than that and you just gave a master full demonstration of that. If I'm ever up in the Indianapolis area again I'm going to come check you out.
Don Menza is the talented sax player. He did not do the album, however. That was Plas Johnson, another great. Plas was in the "Wrecking Crew" and they were on many, many rock and roll recordings.
The source says it is in stereo. I have to agree that this sounds like mono. Thanks to Steve Dokken and his outstanding performance on Bass. We are so fortunate to have some of these performances in such quality. If I find the stereo got lost in the process I have control of I will consider uploading this again. Highest quality is my goal. Thanks for the positive comments.
I totally agree with you on Steve Dokken's bass playing skills. He brought his A game on this performance and I feel that he is very underrated. I had the privilege of hearing him play a jazz gig at a small club in the Indianapolis area about 10 years ago. As a fellow bass player I was astounded.
A Rede Globo exibia, salve engano, aos Sábados os episódios de "As Panteras". O tema está sempre na minha cabeça. Assistir essa exibição do tema ao vivo é maravilhoso. Viva o Sr. Henry Mancini!
That was recorded for a TV show in Edmonton Canada in the early 80's. That's me on bass.
That was an incredible performance, Steve. Hope you're still slappin' those strings.
Smooth, like butter!
Well done! I envy anyone who plays in a orchestra.
Well done on bass!
Well played, Steve! I'm 59 and started listening to Henry's music when I was 4. (it is the truth). The best version of Charlies Angels theme. Makes my day every time I listen to this.

Henry Mancini was simply a legend!

What a wonderful time for TV when the Angels were on!
Awesome!!! It brings good memories to my mind.
Perfect! Him and Bacharach are my heroes!

Such an iconic beautiful theme.
Love this! The theme music, characters and style of the Angels is what makes this show my favorite. I swear I have seen all the episodes, have the episodes on DVD and I still watch them on CoziTV on thursday nights. Seeing and hearing the theme song played live makes me feel so happy.
I agree! I makes me happy too!
Hermosa versión del maestro Henry Mancini. Gracias por brindarnos buena música.
THE BEST TV THEME EVER
That guy can play a sax better than most people can talk.
Don Menza has perfected the sax technique of circular breathing as well....remarkable
O YES !!!!!
Practicing talking, for as many hours as he's practiced the sax, would produce equally dramatic results.
He looks like Frasier Crane.
Awesome music! Totally beautiful then and now! Still the best around! Thank you!
#ROCK70'SINTHE21STCENTURY!!!
The absolute best!
Excellent piece of creation. HAPPY MEMORIES, of my childhood days.
Love this version..so beautiful..
Henry Mancini wrote alot of classic songs for tv & movies & this was one of them along with Y&R, many & many more.
He didn't write this song, he just played this song, this is a cover, the original version it's different.
Marvelous music touches the soul of those who have good taste for music.
thank you.
This is so great! And that guy on the sax IS FUCKING AWESOME!
Fantastic music and the version too!
That’s awesome!! Amazing performance…
This sounds HOT! Music had magic then.
I agree, right now some of the music they make are all about ass and titties -__-
Arvin Jay Kinda ironic to be saying that on the commentary to the Charlie's Angel theme
@@jonathanwashington6083 Hahahaa
That bass and the sax player! Off the map great!
COOL! SO COOL!
I love this theme. I'm not sure if I want to flip my hair around or chase criminals
YES!!!
Understandable🤣🤣
Back in the day, if they were baking cookies, I still would have been watching. If I was trying to flip my hair around not a good idea! If you were a young guy and you didn't like that show, you weren't a young guy. Something else going on.
You could do both...like they did...
No eres el único en pensarlo
Mágico ..... por un .minuto me transportó al pasado cuando miraba esa maravillosa serie🍂🍃😪
Fantastic listening
Mancini: My favorite pop classical composer... Great post!
Sounds wonderful live! As a musician I appreciate this fine piece.
Until finding this video unexpectedly, I didn’t know that Henry Mancini wrote the theme for “Charlie’s Angels”. Talk about learning something new every day.
In fact Henry didnt write it...Jack Elliott and Allyn Ferguson wrote it and Henry Mancini made his own arrangement
Henry Mancini was so prolific at film scoring and TV music that his estate is still earning money every minute to this day.

THIS STREAM IS SO BEAUTY...

Makes me dream. Wow. Fantastic
the English phlegm with which the dude plays the bass at 2:16 makes it sound so simple...great!

Beauty. Great sax solo, indeed. Wish we could see more of Hank conducting, though. I guess that's not really where the action is, though.
BEST TV TUNE. EVER.
