On September 20th, Swedish Heavy Metal superstars SABATON will release their first ever live DVD/Blu-ray »Swedish Empire Live«, which features the band's stunning live performance at the renowned Polish »Woodstock Festival« in 2012 where over half a million fans watched this outstanding SABATON concert.

It's hard to imagine, but that's indeed even more hardcore than Rammstein getting tenthousands of French chant "Du Hast" in Paris.
Singing in English and hyping the crowd in Polish, while the singer is half Swede/Czech.

This is the genius of Sabaton. They tell epic stories about history without taking sides. This allows them to generate such enthusiasm from their audiences all around the world, while performing songs about people and events many of those would normally despise. Many Sabaton songs celebrate heroism, sacrifice, and military excellence in battle, without glorifying war itself. They chronicle stories that need to be told, but sadly, are being forgotten more and more.
Honestly, only Sabaton could pull off having a crowd of some 70k Polish People sing along to a song about a WW2 German Tank Division.

the "Ghost Division" actually still exists as a tank unit (as it has always been^^) within the German army... a good friend of mine served in that unit... the thing is that its name in German is "Gespensterdivision" which, to a German, doesn't sound nearly as good and menacing as it does in English (more like Boo from Super Mario) xD... They were famous due to their legendary commander Erwin Rommel who commanded the unit at the front and not out of some bunker somewhere in the backcountry... so even his superiors sometimes didn't know where that unit acually was at that time... this surely added to the whole ghost-myth^^

From the time the "Art of War" album released, this song has NEVER not been played live, making it the longest played song in their touring history.
So in case you are wondering about this song. It is about Erwin Rommel of the German Army in WWII and his blitzkrieg on France where his division captured over 200 miles in a single night. His division earned the name Ghost Division because German High Command had no idea where the vanished to in one night then when they made contact again found out they were over 300 miles from the estimated position.

On of the coolest concerts that I have ever been to is when Sabaton opened for Amon Amarth on Halloween at Royal Oak Music Theater.
They are awesome. This dong is Epic! They start all their show with this One!
I got to meet and take photos with these guys when they played in California and they are the kindest people. Love them so much.

I can't recommend Cliffs of Gallipoli from the same concert enough. It is so chilling everytime I listen to it.

Fun fact: A sabaton is actually a piece of foot armor worn by a medieval knight.
Fun fact 2: "Ghost Division" is about 7th Panzer Division, a tank division commanded by Erwin Rommel during World War II, during the 1940 campaign through the Low Countries (Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg) and into France. And Rommel was so respected that he was basically allowed to make his own decisions in the field -- which is why 7th Panzer was so fast, nobody could keep track of it. Rommel, relatedly, thought most of Hitler's orders were stupid -- and several times was known or reported to have said that communications lines were down, when they weren't.
I'd recommend Wolfpack by Sabaton (Sah-ba-ton) it's a bit of an older one but it's banging. About the U-Boats during WWII.

The 7th Panzer Division was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. It was set up on October 18, 1939 and is best known by its nickname, Ghost Division. It was created through the regrouping of the 2nd light division after the attack on Poland (White case) its lack of tanks had made itself felt. The 7th Panzer Division became famous under its commander Major General Erwin Rommel in the French campaign in 1940. It was given by French soldiers as the "Ghost Division" (La division fantome). I love Sabaton myself and because Sabaton History Channel, they really try hard the people at Sabaton. Oh and Travis you think the drummer (Hannes Van Dahl) is cool, yes, not me, he's married to my goddess. No, just kidding Hannes Van Dahl, I like him. To everyone in the channel and to all the brothers and sisters of the metal family, best regards from me, keep it up.
It was named Ghost Division, because it appeared on places where ich couldnt be... by traditional warfare dogma. But the commanders used new and unorthodox tactics and so caused confusion in the french lines.
