      You should have on "BLEACH". That album goes from more normal(ish) songs to metal. Some of the riffs straight up sound like slayer. (Edit: this was meant as a comment not a reply.)

      Ted K I think Tompe Le Monde is sometimes dismissed as the group were on the verge of breaking up, Frank and Kim weren't singing together much anymore and they introduced synth sounds and things like that. I have heard some people call it a Frank Black solo album in all but name. People always tend to focus on Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle mainly.

    • @JayPhonomancer
      @JayPhonomancer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ted K I think its an amazing album also. The guitar sound on it is awesome! And its also the album that does the quiet/loud thing the most, which people always say is the definitive Pixies thing!
      I really need to listen to the Breeders. I only know some of the singles and thats it

    "Teenage angst has paid off well. Now I'm bored and old" - the best opener line to an album ever, considering where Cobain was at the time.

    I covered Scentless Apprentice with my band on guitar & vocals for a school performance years ago...safe to say the crowd of teachers & parents weren't very thrilled, and it also took me a week to get my voice back to normal after the screaming...
    P.S You should totally do a reaction to Kasabian's self-titled debut album - it's got a lot of unique sounding tracks in it from dark electronica, to funky rock tracks & eerie interludes, gives me a lot of Absolution vibes in the structure.

    please do a part 2. I bought this "cassette" when it came out. side two is when In Utero really opens up the flood gates. Milk it, Very ape, pennyroyal tea, all building up to Radio friendly unit shifter and Tourette's and then the transcendental wisdom of a drugged out 27 year old, All Apologies. It was honestly lightning in a bottle.

Oddly enough, it kinda reminds me of a really good album you might like if you're into this kinda stuff, it's called "Melancholy and the infinite sadness" by the Smashing Pumpkins. One word to describe that album is definitely an "experience." It's like OK Computer but more grunge mixed in with a lot of long experimental songs.

      There's a little bit of Nirvana in Muse, especially the earlier stuff. Lots of soft/loud, noise endings. They sometimes play Nirvana riffs too I'm sure

    I think of 'In Utero' the way I think of 'White Light/White Heat' by The Velvet Underground. On an initial listen both albums are jarring, loud, uneven and messy, but the more you familiarize yourself with the tracks the more you realize the music is actually very inspired and powerful. I like the production, especially. The band sounds more vivid and raw than they do on Nevermind. Steve Albini and Cobain do an excellent job at portraying Nirvana's "true" sound.

    Could you maybe do Outrage is Now by Death from Above? If you like Royal Blood then you'll like DFA, they're very similar

    Doolittle by the Pixies!! Someone already mentioned this, but if you like visceral, raw performances then you're bound to love it

      Jackson Page Surely then Surfer Rosa first and foremost. I adore The Pixies and I adore Doolittle. But Surfer Rosa is the Steve Albini visceral, raw album and its absolute perfection. Doolittle, produced by Gill Norton, is slightly less raw and a little more polished. Yet it still has the sarcastic, anarchic feel of what we love about them. :)

      @@willieharpur Surfer Rosa is certainly more raw than Doolittle, but I feel that Doolittle is a better introduction to the band. The Pixies were special not only for their visceral energy but also for their infectious songwriting and melodies, and Doolittle is more of a balance between those two sides of the band than Surfer Rosa is. I also feel that it's a more cohesive and consistent effort overall.

      Yeah possibly. It’s probably just because I heard Surfer Rosa first and it holds that place in my heart. Out of the thousands of albums that I own those two would both be definitely in my top 15. And that’s a testament to two amazing pieces of work. Maybe it’s just the darker lyrics and songwriting of Surfer Rosa that get me. Personally I think Albini caught that to absolute perfection.

    Most of Kurt’s songs you could almost do the 60s bat dance to them... chorus to Serve the Servants , chorus to Aneurysm, etc
