Often times they would hold the Bowie upside down and hit the opponents blade with the backside of the Bowie this not damaging the cutting edge of the Bowie. They could also thrust the knife from this position.
Pretty good synopsis of the bowie knife but it was designed as a “do it all” knife. It was a hunting knife, tooth pick, sword, axe, whatever you needed in the moment. It was the 1800’s one-tool solution
Ich würde mit diesem Bowie - Messer zwar ohnehin nicht im Wald herumrandalieren, dennoch frage ich mich, ob der Klingenstahl überhaupt für den harten Arbeitseinsatz taugt. Ist der Stahl wohl schnitthaltig genug?
Die meisten modernen „rostfreien“ Stähle halten ordentlich was aus, leider wird dieses Messer nicht viel her machen, da alle „rostfreien“ Stähle für mindestens 15+ Minuten bei einer konstanten Temperatur gehalten werden müssen, meistens etwas über 1000 grad. Das kann man mit einer Gasesse leider vergessen.
Ich schätze, das ist ein CPM Stahl. Der ist sehr schnitthaltig. Ich würde aber eher Zähigkeit und leichte Schärfbarkeit vorziehen, da ist der alte C75 unschlagbar, ausser für Taucher. (das mit den 15 Minuten halte ich übrigens für Quatsch)

@@fixit4387 cpm Stähle liegen bei 20-30 Minuten Haltezeit bei 1080-1120 Grad.
